My new Aero Precision .308...

...one hell of a shooter. Finally got her out to the range with a pretty good selection of .308 ammo. She shot it all fine, and the bolt locked back as it is supposed to do.

Bought the Aero nickel boron bolt with the package. Got the 18" barrel. Got on paper at 50 and 100 yards with MagPul backup sights, will try my 1x8 scope next time.

Rifle is a *lot* heavier than I thought it would be and, wowser, .308 rounds are loud enough to wake the dead in the next county, a lot louder than .357 Mag rounds.  ?

I've got a bipod and am wondering what the thoughts are as to where on the m-lok handguard to mount it...near the muzzle or rear of the gasblock. Don't know whether it makes any difference or why it would...advice appreciated.

Good to hear she shoots fine! I prefer my bipods mounted as far out on the rail as I can get it. Wider platform means more stable platform as a rule. The further back the pivot point the more sensitive the adjustments made for the shot will be. Another explanation quoted from a thread on Snipers Hide;

"The benefit of mounting bipod far forward has to do with leverage fine adjustment.
Here is an experiment for you to understand the principal.
Take a pen in your hand and hold it close to the tip. With your other hand move the back of the pen up, down, side to side. Notice how much movement the tip of the pen has, and how precise you can control it by making small movements.
Now, hold the pen further back, lets go at least mid ways so you can really see whats going on here. Now move the back of the pen up, down, side, to side, and observe the tip how little it takes to move the tip around compared to our last configuration. And how hard it would be to make fine adjustments."
