Pete Posted September 22, 2019 Report Posted September 22, 2019 I have an armalite ar10 tactical with a 16” barrel, a 1:11.25 twist, mid length gas system and an adjustable gas block. I believe armalite recommends 150-175 grain ammo. To keep the cost down would 149 grain ammo be perfectly fine or does 1 grain make that big of a difference? Can I run into any issues using a not ideal grain?
Armed Eye Doc Posted September 22, 2019 Report Posted September 22, 2019 What are you wanting to do with the ammo? Target? Hunting? What distance are you planning to shoot? This will determine what ammo may be more suitable for you and your need. The short answer is that 149g ammo should function just fine in your rifle. How accurate it may be can be different with any barrel, even in a similar rifle.
Pete Posted September 22, 2019 Author Report Posted September 22, 2019 Just target practice at the range and I most likely won’t be shooting more than 200 yards because ranges here are limited in distance.
Ravenworks Posted September 23, 2019 Report Posted September 23, 2019 Try a can of the Malaysian ball ammo from SGAMO. The stuff was reasonably priced when I bought it, I think it was right at $333 for a crate shipped. The ammo shoots clean and is kinda hot. Hirtenberger is another good one.
Ravenworks Posted September 23, 2019 Report Posted September 23, 2019 Wow, prices on the Malaysian went way up. Its $357+ $28 for shipping I logged on and looked what I got mine for and they were $333 to my door. It's great ammo for stocking up on.
Pete Posted September 23, 2019 Author Report Posted September 23, 2019 I was really leaning towards Target Sports USA Lake City 7.62x51mm NATO Ammo 149 Grain Full Metal Jacket Bulk 500 Rounds for $250
Armed Eye Doc Posted September 23, 2019 Report Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) It's hard to go wrong with Lake City ammo. Target sports is also good to go. Edited September 23, 2019 by Armed Eye Doc
