Slickside AR9 build

Heck yea! That is a deal on that gun. I like the looks and features of the FX9.

Unfortunately this is as cool as my little Sub2K will ever look. Wanted to keep it light, simple and discreet. I will get some packing foam for the inside of the laptop case.

With transfer fees and everything I’m at $582, but it won’t fold up in a laptop case….

I’ll check and see if the barrels are standard ar type once I get it, and maybe I’ll sbr it later… or maybe just buy another…

I’m anticipating really liking it….

Damn.  Your last post post got me to adding up what I have spent on my "cheap" PCC ensemble: Gun w/ shipping and tax $373; FFL fee $25; optic and QD mount w/shipping and tax $332; two-33 round Glock mags w/ shipping and tax $332 - total $794.  Still a little less than I spent on the wife's new iPad for Xmas, so I guess that makes me an ok husband 😆😇  (I just won't mention the like new Ruger Mark IV (and accessories) I also picked up during the process ...) As one of our fellows is prone to say, whatta hobby!

You are doing the math wrongly…

I'm not counting the red dot I have had for 7 years but I am counting the battery that I changed out 2 years ago even though the old battery was still working..

$2

I'm not counting the $400 Glock 17 I got to go with the ar9 because I traded away two cz’s to get my scandium 1911… two pistols in, two pistols out…

I’m not counting the plethora of Glock magazines I just got because I already had a bunch, and the ones I just got were 20% off.

I'm not counting the molle gear I had to buy because I already had some but don’t like the usgi vest pos thing I bought last year and a replacement was in order.

I should probably get either a Glock 19, 34, or a 17L to go with the fx9, so I need to figure out how that will cost little to nothing.

so so far my additional expenses are only $2

the ret dot is 50,000 hour so I could spend another $2 preemptively….

plus ammo…

Aww fornicate…

the FX9 is overall pretty awesome, but it has that M-lok handguard thing.

I have some modern accessories so I need to figure out if what I have fits it…

I already put an xm177 type stock on it, the one it came with was quite nice but too ergonomic for me.

I have a primary arms red dot, a magpul front sight and the air force rear sight on it so far.

I fed the beachin sling through the m-lok slots on the handguard.

I have a hand stop I would like to use but I need to add a rail section.

it came with one of those clear “glock” magazines and it doesn’t instill confidence.

I did have one m lok rail and a bunch of I think magpul rails.

I slapped a few on there along with a vert grip

put a cut down a1 grip too.

I’m not familiar with the different types of cheesegrater mounting systems

but all I had to do with the magpul moe mounts is hold a plate in place while I tightened the rail section down  the m lok you just turn the screw 90 degrees and it’s done

Had the opportunity to take the Sub2K out for the first time last week.  Generally happy with it. Zero malfunctions out of a couple of boxes of 2 brands of ammo and 3 different magazines. Holosun 510C with the QD mount is fantastic.  Repeatedly took it off and put it back on with no change in point of impact.  Only disappointing part of the shoot was realizing how weak my eyes have gotten shooting a "long gun" without magnification. Still  - a PCC is way more accurate than a pistol. 2-3" 5-shot groups at 30 yards shooting freehand fairly quickly - both right-handed an left-handed. Best groups were when using the 33 round Glock mags as a monopod got about 1.5" groups from a rest at that distance.  Best feature is the gun's small size and extreme light weight - right at 4 lbs.  Good to grab n go with the Shake Awake red dot.

@MtnMike sounds like it’s trustworthy enuff

I’m thinking one of these 9mms is going to take the forefront in the hd department.

the fx9 came with one clear plastic mag, I’m sure it’s fine but it doesn’t instill as much confidence as the Glock factory mags.

I have an old primary arms dot. It pre dates shake awakes but has 50,000 hours constantly on so that work for me.

I installed a flashlight and removed the vertical grip in favor of a stop and got a proper sling swivel mount for the front. I put the butt it came with as it’s just fine.

out to the range tomorrow

That's an ETS mag.  Saw it in the pic that you posted, after you posted this.

I have the 32rd and 40rd ETS mags, and they haven't let me down once.  Run with confidence.  If they fail you, it's not a mag problem, it's a gun problem.  9mm ARs are a motherfuqer to figure out.

I could use a couple spares so maybe if they are substantially cheaper I’ll get a couple.

I had read about the 9mm ar quirks so I got antiwalk pins for the slick side I built and made sure I put the spacer in the recoil tube.  My slickside has been 100% reliable.  I’m very happy with it.

AND it wa the very first “fancy” trigger I ever bought. The fancy trigger is very light.

I have a mildly enhanced trigger on my xm177e2, and did my own trigger jobs on most everything else I own.

Some of the videos I had watched on the FX9 had mentioned upgrading it with antiwalk pins, BUT the one I got already had them from the factory, so the company must have been listening their customers.

since the fx9 is my third flat top I have some questions about iron sights but I think I’ll start a new thread as it pertains to my ar10 mostly.

Tell me about your recoil system in this thing.  PCC ARs are all over the place on what ships, and what really, really works.  You said "spacer" which tells me something is off...

So the bolt doesn’t have to travel as far back to cycle the 9mm.

if it does it hammers the poop out of the trigger group and the last round hold open if so equipped.

a plastic spacer dropped in the tube before the recoil spring fixes this.

I haven’t detail stripped the fx9 yet to compare it to my ar9.

Ok on the right is my recoil spring from my home built AR9 with the spacer.

left is from the fx9

the tube on the fx9 is milled with the spacer built in, so if I decided to switch the assembly I would need a spacer and the removed tube could not be used in a regular AR.  Good to know…

The real reason I'm asking you is because you're unfamiliar with 9mm ARs.  I'm not looking for pics or descriptions, brother, I'm looking for numbers.

After 3 9mms over 10 years, I've learned alot.  Plus one .45 ACP.  The last one I built, last month - that thing ran like a sewing machine, right out of the gate, and it's information that I wish I had 10 years ago, when I STRUGGLED making the first one run.

What's the details on your recoil system?  Again.  Internal depth on the receiver extension, buffer LENGTH, buffer WEIGHT, what spring is in there, if you can identify what it exactly is...

Neither of the buffers you posted above look like 9mm buffers.  PCC buffers have a way larger front to them.  And they're usually around 4" long.

Here's an example, from KAK.

Gotcha, the one I built on the right has a 9mm specific buffer and spring but I can’t recall where I got it from.

It looks like that buffer you posted takes up the space on the front end vs the spacer behind the spring. Two solutions to the same problem.

I may have gotten it from the same place I got either the bolt or the place I got the barrel.

the home built AR9 runs like a striped ass ape, I almost don’t like the fancy trigger as it has a super short reset and is lighter than I’m used to.

I may get the fx9 to the range tomorrow.

Hey brother, if it runs, that's all that matters.

The recoil system in this one I just got done with is just a standard AR15 receiver extension, 7.000" internal depth, Aero 9mm buffer - they have a new one out that's 8.1oz, and an Armalite EA1095 recoil spring.  Either the EA1095 or the Sprinco Red spring would work identically, they're basically twins.  I ran the EA1095 just because I had a spare in the parts box.  Aero EPC upper and lower, Aero 9mm BCG, and the new BA 5.5" barrel with the improved feedcone on the barrel extension.   That thing just goes...
