AngelDeVille
On the AR platform I greatly prefer the ar15/m16 A1. but due the the nature of advancement in firearm technology I currently have 3 (three) flat tops my new FX9 has a decent red dot (primary arms) and for backup irons a magpul front folding and an Matech Air Force flip up rear. (Have a few of these) My 300 blackout has the same red dot and a set of non folding Troy sights (supposed to be scar type sight picture) two aperture flip on the rear like an A1 Now we come to my AR10 I have been happy enough with the 4-14 primary arms scope Here lieth the problem, I would love to just have M1A type iron sights on it. I have a fixed Troy AR front sight on the AR10 and I do like it I also have the matching folding rear Troy, with the same flip aperture as the other Troy/A1 style. I would like more precision for this caliber. The Matech Air Force sight has the precision, but I’m mildly afraid it is too delicate for primary sight use. maybe I would be happy keeping the glass on it and using 45* offset sights? (I’d hope not to spend $300 on these) maybe I would just like a carry handle with a QUALITY A2 sight? I know irons aren’t the popular choice but what are my options? I shoot irons effectively at 500-800 yards and can do 1,000 if I keep in practice. The pics of the Matech if anyone hasn’t seen them. it’s a great sight calibrated to the 5.56 round. AngelDeVille
Ok I think what I need to figure out is, do I want a precision iron sight rifle -OR- a scoped rifle with backup sights that are readily deployed. the issue with precision iron sights is I cannot find a quality rear sight. The Troy fixed front sight is awesome as is the fixed rear. But the rear sight is a battle sight at best. I can find some inexpensive A2 rear sights, but the quality is questionable. I do have the same Troy sights as folding and those are fine, I’m just not fond of the folding feature for any of my applications. If I’m going to use 45* sights with the scope then battle sights are fine. Troy makes a set with the same qualities as the regular fixed but they are folding, but otherwise a contender. surefire makes a nice A2 offset set, not folding but they are maybe too precise for backups. 98Z5V
My go-to for 45 offsets are the MagPuls. They rock, big time. I have many, many set of those on scoped rifles. If you look, you can pull the set for around $160 - somebody always has them on a sale. If you get them, and don't like them - I'll buy them from you. Here ya go - these guys are legit, I've ordered from them before: https://gunmagwarehouse.com/magpul-mbus-pro-offset-flip-up-front-and-rear-sight-set.html $152... 98Z5V
I've done a couple of them with offset red dots as a backup, too. LaRue mounts. I like the setup. Something to think about. I'll dig those 2 out and get a pic. If you went that route, make sure you get red dots with side-loading batteries... Here ya go: I have seen the magpul ones and I have a regular front folding. I think if I get folding 45* it will be the Troy. Their quality is fucking outstanding. But they are in the $250+ price range. the Deuk/Surefire can be had around $170 (primary arms) and are fixed. I had just a passing thought about going the red dot route and I could try it with an existing red dot as I do have a couple offset rail sections. the expense of a red dot would be similar to my sight preferences. That sig romeo looks promising. I have a holosun 507 on one of my pistols but I don’t recall how much that was and would have to research how to mount it. AngelDeVille
Found a “used” set of Troy’s $160 shipped and taxed I think if I hadn't run across these I would have gotten the Deuk/Surefire's I think IF I can find an LR308 or an Armalite carry handle I will go that route, with a Troy HK style front fixed sight. It's a shame there aren't more quality options... I really don't want an M1A or an FN/FAL just for a better set of irons.... blue109
Never forget that Troy hired corrupt fanatical anti-gun Chicago PD superintendent Jody Weis (nicknamed J-fled for running from the sound of gunfire) and Ruby Ridge sniper Dale Monroe (who sat right next to Lon while he executed an unarmed woman holding a baby and testified that it was the right call) for their training division. fornicate that company in the neck forever. 98Z5V Posted yesterday at 04:51 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 04:51 AM ^^^ And, on top of that, on those Troy's, you've got that giant diamond rear sight diopter. At least on the all-steel MagPuls, you have a large and small diopter that you can switch to and from, when necessary. The MagPul offsets are the King of the offsets, by far. See below, you can see the flippable diopter in the rear sight:

I didn't know there were sorted politics involving the company.... Dunno I like the protective wings on most rear sights, but the magpul has an awful lot of metal around the aperture. I sight over the aperture under 20m, I might have to aim at knees to hit the neck on that one. I haven't tried that diamond aperture, and I'm curious as to how it works. it is flipable with a smaller diamond with an iron cut. says 300m on the big and 500 on the little un. we'll see how it does at 500 and 800 respectively I have 1 HK style front wings and 1 (now 2) of the AR style wings. the HK style is a much nicer view, but the AR style is familiar. There are a few amazon and ebay MIC a2 style rear sights but they look superbly crappy...prices range from $15-60 and they all look cheap.. too bad I can't find an Armalite carry handle A2.... 98Z5V
You can get into a very high quality rear sight for a pic rail, but it's gonna set you back about $250ish, and you'll have to modify one of the main parts, to make it fit a flat-top. This is true, quality National Match Iron Sight parts. Lemme know if you want the details. This would be an irons-only gun. 1/4 by 1/4 MOA adjustments on the rear, with a 0.040" peep sight hooded rear aperature. I run this on ONE iron sight gun that I have. EDIT - when you're running National Match irons on a flat top - they're the parts that go in the A2, and are adjustable to 8/3 on the wheel. 800 meters. On a flat top pic rail, you can't do that, and your max is 6/3 - 600 meters. Based in the original A2 design. I absolutely would love to make it irons only. I have my M39sov for a scoped rifle and and my colt 3x? Maybe it’s a 4x on my xm177e2 and that’s enuff for me. the ar10 with a scope is fine too and with the 4-14 scope it would be formidable and easier to get out to 1k but easy is boring. You better get that credit card out right now, and rubbing it against your leg to warm it up. I'll list the parts you need coming up quick, like in a few minutes. This shiit was in stock last night, when I almost hit you with this...

98Z5V
You need the Rock River Arms rear sight, and the only place it's in stock is Charlie's Custom Clones, right now. That's the quality base that you need to build from. https://charliescustomclones.com/rock-river-arms-a2-rear-sight-assembly/ THEN, you need to rip it all down, and add this kit, which you'll have to custom fit, in the elevation tower, the threaded tower - you'll have to cut it down to fit the flat-top dimensions. Shorten it. This is straight from RRA. You can get 1/2 by 1/2, or 1/4 by 1/4, in either 0.030" hooded rear, or 0.040" hooded rear. https://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=1714

98Z5V
Just so you know - LAR-8 upper receivers are LONGER than DPMS-Based LR-308 receivers, and Armalite AR-10 receivers. The BCGs are longer, the uppers are longer, and the charging handles are longer - AND, the detachable carry handles are longer. They won't fit DPMS and Armalite based 308s... Too long. FYI...
