MaDuce
I realize this idea has it's limits but for FDE rifles, has anyone ever considered coating pmag with tan truck bed liner? I recently ordered a can of it off amazon.com and tracking says it'll be here tomorrow.http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-Automotive-253438-15-Ounce-Coating/dp/B006ZLQ8ZO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354489488&sr=8-1&keywords=tan+bed+liner I ordered it really for experimentation and possibly for coating the frame to my CZ-52 rather then redoing it.From what I have seen, this stuff looks like it's much stronger then the common coating applications, being basically a full synthetic sleeve. I would think that on California builds this would also seal up the mag, making it permanent. What are your thoughts on this application? edgecrusher
issues would definitely arise with clearance, being the bed liner is far thicker (rated in mils) the paint, cerakote or duracoat. some thing else like the mag body having less flex from the heavy shell may cause spring binding ( can happen from squeezing a mag) and
Robocop1051
If you mask off the portion that goes in the magwell then it should work fine. You just have to look at the two tone mag.

MaDuce
I just got it in and ran a test spray. It's a brighter tan then the FDE magpul uses but I think it'll fit just fine. It's a little brighter then the grip components on the CAA interchangeable grip. It's basically more of the old fashion desert tan shade. IowaFClass
Why not just coat the areas between the raised ribs for a grip surface? Yes it is not painting the whole mag but I agree you could get into clearence problems with painting the top that fits into the actual magwell. I know soom guys are using a iron to dimple the same areas for more grip.
MaDuce
For gripping, I prefer to use a rubber gripping tape I get at ace hardware. It has a sticky surface but I found it works best when the sticky part is removed and replaced with gorilla glue. I keep procrastinating about adding that to my AR-15 mag. I normally use it on custom made parts. I am well aware of the tolerance issue. It's a no-brainier. I think I mentioned earlier taping off the upper area before coating. It is also very unlikely I will use this method myself, at least not on this build.
