Powerman
I think I have managed to gather all my parts. Right now, I need a gas key. Looking at DPMS, it seems they list the same part for AR-15 and .308. Can I use any AR carrier key/DPMS?I am assembling my upper. I just got a cheap DPMS forearm right now. Says it comes with a new barrel nut. I assume you need it to install the forearm. So do I need a different barrel nut to install my barrel? I have my gas parts, but is there any other fastener parts for the barrel? Thanks
Rsquared
Right now, I need a gas key. Looking at DPMS, it seems they list the same part for AR-15 and .308. Can I use any AR carrier key/DPMS?So does that mean that you bought a stripped bolt carrier? The gas-key is sometimes already screwed and staked on the carrier. Just wondering. As far as the barrelnut for the forearm. The barrelnut screws down the barrel to the upper, then the forearm attaches to the barrelnut. But don't take this as gospel. Try "dry-fitting" stuff together and take a good look at it.Ron
Powerman
Ya, I bought a stripped carrier and there is no key in the pic. So I need a key and of course stake it. Not too many keys out there, but I think I can use AR-15 keys. I would feel better using a DPMS key, but things are a little slim these days.Ya, that is what I thought... the barrel nut, and then you need outter threads fro the fore arm to attach to. So I thought the nut that came with the fore arm would be good and not buying an additional one.
98Z5V
The gas key is the same, AR-15 to .308 AR - same part. Manufacturer doesn't matter, because it's a part that should be prduced to the exact same standards, by every manufacturer. SHOULD be.Pick one up from anywhere - keep in mind, reputable companies make sure that they're buying reputable parts, too. Cheap poop is out there. The bolts for the carrier are standardized. Common parts. Stake that thing - stake those bolts in place.
Powerman
Sweet, just found that too. So there are keys still out there. I have a book on building AR-15... lots of good stuff on staking. The key should be the only part I need still.... well besides all the "virtual" parts I ordered in la-la land. We will see if it ever hits my door step.
Rsquared
All I can say is, good luck with the parts. We're all waiting on various different "little pieces" to builds. They use to come and go. ALOT are just plain gone now.
