reelgator
My current project is using an SASS barrel. Are there any other .936 gas blocks (fixed or adj) that will work instead of the $90.00 DPMS GB-SASS?
98Z5V
Do those barrels use a tapered gas block? Can you get measurements for us? For some reason, I remember reading something about tapered gas blocks on those barrels. If you can measure at the shoulder, then about one inch forward, that should be good enough to see. reelgator
I'll try to get a measurement. From what they said, other gas blocks won't allow for the the proper allignment of the gas tube and it hits the barrel.

imschur
Hmm I wonder if they are tapered or just low profile <dontknow> .750 .
survivalshop
I have this one on my 20 " .936 bbl. ---Gas Block, Titan, with Two Steel Compression Screws—exclusive Fulton Armory design, compresssion fit so it can't work loose—Choose .750" or .936" .750"49.95 QTY: .936" 49.95 QTY: And I have this one on my 16" bbl. 308.-- Bull Barrel Gas Block $48.00 YHM-9387This gas block replaces your existing front sight and provides a simple, low profile gas block to your bull barrel. It clamps to the barrel using 3 Allen screws. This gas block has a bore diameter of .936 inches for bull barrels. Manufactured from aluminum and finished with a matte black anodize. Made in the U. Now I'm not sure about the tapering thing , it would be the first that I have heard of that ,if true.It would not surprise me in the least ,if DPMS did that to keep there parts proprietary in nature. They would have to set up completely new tooling to do that or if they have there bbl's farmed out , that co. would have to do the same . imschur
This is what Jon F of DPMS stated on their forumIf using an actual 18" SASS barrel, the only gas block I know of that will work with the SASS contour is the SASS gas block. If you are using a normal 18" bull barrel, you can use pretty much any gas block you like.
survivalshop
I would like to see some measurements of the barrel at the gas block attachment area of the barrel . Like I said , it would not surprise me if DPMS did some thing out of the ordinary to make you use there and only there ( for the time being ) parts. Look what the did to there upper receiver rail height.Whats so different about the SASS ?
survivalshop
I read that the gas block has the gas tube set higher to clear the flutes in the barrel. is that true ? Does that mean the hand guard is higher also ? How high can the flutes be ? This is not making sense to me with out photo's or measurements. imschur
Is this why DPMS has changed rail heights?....I wonder <dontknow>
