I see no interest in this upper/lower set but found these pics on my camera so I thought I'd post them.

That's right $400 for the assembled DPMS upper w forward assist button, charging handle and ejection port cover, with bushings installed. Mated to an assembled POF lower with selecter, mag release, bolt release, trigger, pivot and takedown pins. It has a basic colt style pistol grip that I removed the one finger groove from. No BCG, no stock, buffer, buffer tube or spring. Nothing else that hasn't been listed. You pay shipping and it has to go FFL to FFL.

I have decided to \sell my .308 AR upper/lower receiver set that I started with a New POF lower receiver and a DPMS upper receiver (with bushings installed0, because I had intended to mill the DPMS upper to match the contour of the POF lower but I am unable to locate a plater that will rehardcoat the DPMS upper for me if I machine it. I have ordered one of the Maga Upper/lower receiver sets that I plan to use to complete the build. I am asking $400 for the upper with bushings installed, mated to the lower that has lower parts installed. No BCG or stock are included with this. You can see pics of this upper/lower set in the section "jgun's POF build"

Mega Arms has come out with a good looking .308 matched upper/lower receiver set. I used one of their lower receivers on my last 5.56 build and found it to be a high quality product with excellent fit and finish. If the 7.62 receiver is of equal quality I think it will be a good choice for a custom build. www.megamachineshop.com/ma-ten-landing.php Rainier Arms is taking preorders on them at $499 for the matched upper/lower set.

I guess this is not going to be something I can do myself after I buy the barrel. I thought that there might be some way that I could machine the bolt or extension after the fact in order to acheive the dimension. I'm preparing to have a barrel made, and based on what your saying, I assume that in order to have it headspaced properly I'm going to have to supply the barrel maker with the bolt so that he can headspace it, is that correct? or are the bolts all pretty much the same size? By the way, Can you reccomend what brand barrel extension to go with, or are they, also, all pretty much the same? I'm going to go with a DPMS style BCG.

Sorry, the abbreviation is popular with the Saiga guys. It refers to converting the gun from the as imported, sporting configuration to the present familiar AK layout. it involves moving the triggerguard and fire control components forward and mounting the pistol grip and butt stock.
-
So, if I undestand this correctly, headspaceing is accomplished by either machining the barrel/barrel extension mateing surfaces, or by adjusting the bepth of the reamer during chambering. If that is correct, then this is not something I can do myself if I have access to a lathe, right?
-
I don't know if this should be in gunsmithing or accurizing, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me how do you go about fitting the bolt to the barrel extension to obtain minimum safe headspace? As I understand it this is the main thing I can do (aside from using a match grade barrel and the appropriate load/bullet) to accurize my AR.

This is my comp gun. After doing the PG conversion, I beat all the tube guys at the first match I entered with it.

Thanks, I'm still toying with the idea of milling the upper to match the POF lower more closely, I guess I'll see if I find myself with free time on my hands between now and when I pick up the BCG, and buffer/spring. I think the LaRue rail looks and feels better than the POF rail. I did a bathroom scale weigh in, and it's a little less than 9lbs right now so I guess it will be around 10lbs unless I switch to a CTR stock.

Yeah, I've heard good things about the Tubbs springs, maybe I'll try one. Did you ever try out their carrier weight system? Would something like that be any good if I plan to shoot the gun in 3gun heavy metal class?
-
I've done a preliminary mock up of the POF/DPMS to see how it looks. I still don't have a BCG or buffer/spring. I expect to use a DPMS BCG by default, I don't know what other options I have. As for the buffer and spring, I could use any input or advice that you guys can offer. The A2 flash hider is temporary until I decide what I really want. After this and the Kaiser are done I'm going to have to start saving for some glass, I don't have any optics for these type of guns.

The Fulton Armory 18.5" barrel and PRI gas block arrived this week. Now I have to pick a muzzle brake/FH/comp. I see ones from Fulton (Bennie Cooley), Primary Weapons Systems, Surefire, and of course PRI. I've only had experience with the PWS, the Vortex and the Surefire, all on AR-15 platform rifles. No experience on a .308. Can anyone give any advice or opinions on them, any experience/preferences?

Survivalshop, I ordered an 18.5" barrel from Fulton today. They said it's in stock,so hopefully it will get here quickly. Thanks for the info.

Survivalshop, I think I probably will be building both at the same time, simply because I really want to get a working gun together and I think that it will likely take a while with the Kaiser because I'd like to use his Forward charging handle setup and, finances permitting, I may try a carbon barrel on it. I was going to order one of the 18.5" barrels from Fulton this week for the POF. I was wondering if any members have had any experience with the Fulton Armory barrels? If so, I'd appreciate any feed back you can offer.

Imschur, are youasking for pictures of the upper and lower seperated so you can see the inside? If so, no problem. Is there anything specific you want to see?
-
If this group buy should happen what type would we be buying? I'm assuming that we'd all have to buy the same.
-
I know what you mean about the financial end of it. I'd like to do the Kaiser as a high end build, making no compromises based on price of a particular component, which means it may take several months based on the economy. I plan to try to build the POF/DPMS simultaniously with more attention paid to keeping the total cost down so that I can get it done in a reasonable timeframe. I plan to build both of them in a similar configuration as far as barrel length and intended use. It should be interesting to see just how much better performance/accuracy you can actually buy with more expensive parts.

I picked up that issue and found the information to be useful. I may give one of those barrels a try if the money's there when I get to that point of the build. Thanks for the heads up. Also thanks for the link.

I'll try to get some better shots posted by tomorrow.

Feel free, I can take better shots or from different angles to show other details if you'd like.
