I went KISS.. for the above 5.56 rifle.. grabbed a UTG Quad and MBUS Gen 1 Set for $120 shipped (Amazon) grabbed 2 Cproduct 20 round mags for $18 shipped from 44mag.. and 500 rounds of 223 ammo for $115 shipped.. I may add a Primary Arms M3 red dot.. but I want to see how good it shoots out to 100 yards running just the MBUS 1st..

DPMS 5.56 Oracle (like the ORC but with just a gas block and small rail on it).. for $570 and shipping.. :) STOCK PHOTO... Next will be the MPul MOE Stock (FDE), MPul MIAD Pistol Grip (FDE) and a Quad Rail.. :)

So the Desert colored paint is still drying on my DPMS LR-308.. and I decided to buy a DPMS 5.56 Oracle with A3 Flat-Top & 16" bbl.. here is a stock pic.. (notice how its ALOT like my DPMS 308.. <thumbsup> Considering yesterday in the AM the dealer only had 3 @ $569 NIB I couldn't say no.. question is do I paint to match the 308 or just MagPul it in FDE and be done.. (still got paint here) ;) I do have a Hogue Grip here already for it.. factory grips SUCK.. IMHO.. Al

I went with primary of Light Tan.. then dabbed some OD and some Field Drab (aka brownish).. then did some Urban Tan (which is I guess gray-ish).. then finished with some Light Coyote Tan.. I figured the LEAF patterns would break it up a little bit.. I have 11 acres in West TX so I think TAN and BROWN's would be more prominant then alot of O'Drab (aka green) colors.. just finished the four 20 round MagPul LR20 Mags matching the theme..

here in NJ (by Ft. Dix) I have a 210 yard range before the BIRM.. Its $60/year membership.. and only $3/hour.. then my 11 Acres in way West TX has 300 yards of FLAT..(side near the truck in that pic) which I'm sure I can extend abit..

Here are the final pics.. the Field Drab 'brown' is not dark nor shiny.. its the flash and the camera angle.. [img width=810 height=607]http://www.executiveprotectionservice.us/forums/RIGHTFINAL.jpg I wanted a 'muted' setting with a touch of foliage and some Olive under a dust coating.. and I threw in some mesh net here and there..

Well I was browsing online and saw a bunch of different camo type ideas for AR's.. So I bought some Aervoe Paint in basically Desert USMC Marpat colors.. I got Aervoe Urban Tan, Light Coyote Tan, Highland, Field Drab, Light Tan.. and I bought locally 1 can of Krylon 'Olive' CAMO.. I also have cans of primer white and fla black if needed.. Here is a pic with Urban Tan as a base, and just Coyote for the overlay.. I used some mesh material and some fake FERNs.. This was my crappy attempt at Digi.. but I have 0 patience.. on my old Red Ryder BB gun.. (I do realize I have to use MULTIPLE layers for the proper effect).. Think I am going to stick with plant and simple mesh on this.. Stay tuned..

@ Jgun.. DPMS LR-308.. upper & lower.. has 0 issues after about 450+ rounds.. I just get bored and figured since I'm moving to TX in 3-5 and I plan on keeping it and a Desert camo would be good.. everyone I have read suggests FLAT clear coat by Valspar (spray).. I sold 2 AK variants to get this, and also sold a Saiga 308 as I could only shoot 1 5/8" @ 100 yards with that and I want MORE ACCURACY.. took the $800 from the Saiga sale and put that away for 308 ammo.. I'm doing no less than a 200 yard ZERO on this.. tired of the local guys here in NJ shooting crappy 200 yard groups.. so I got this to show them how to do it.. LOL.. managed a 1 5/8" at 200 yards with 10 shots 3 weeks back.. (with a 3-9x40 scope)... now I have the 4-12x40...

you may want a 7.62x51 NATO stamped barrel/upper.. not just 308.. the 762x51 chamber will be a + down the line if you want to run surplus ammo.. & PMags LR20 (762x51 mags) run great in my DPMS. IMHO.. next project for mine is Desert Camo.. 8) started this weekend messing with some mags.. waiting on my 5 Aervoe paint colors to come in..
-
Well I decided to Desert Camo my DPMS LR-308.. since I may be moving to W Texas in the near future.. I found the Aervoe MARPAT USMC Desert Camo Kit has these colors in it: Light Coyote camo paint Urban Tan camo paint Light Tan camo paint Highland camo paint and on Brownells site this color was mentioned as being good by some buyers: Field Drab camo paint (also by Aervoe).. I ordered all 5 colors for $30 and $13 shipping from DSG.. I also ordered a new Hogue 'Ghille Tan' AR grip to go with it.. should be pretty sweet when I'm done.. P.S. I got the Nikon 4-12x40 with Mil-Dot in.. so I will be sighting that in this Saturday in the AM.. :)

Looking good.. -
a New Nikon 4-12x40 with Mil-Dot from Midway.. (on sale).. to replace the 3-9 listed only 4 posts above this one.. the 3-9 wasn't cutting it.. and the Mil-Dot vs. Nikoplex was a smart choice.. IMHO.. I managed to sell the 1 week old Nikon for only a $17 loss.. Albert
-
the top one does.. the irony is I shot and couldn't see the hits till I walked up.. 3-9 @ 200 yards on a sunny day on white background=fail.. figure $19 worth of ammo on the top pic is out-window.. the 10 shots (in 2nd pic) after the adjustment were pricele$$.. guys on the 'other board' thought the group was @ 100 yards.. gotta go back and duplicate this.. got some 10x50 Binocs coming in to help.. won't waste so much ammo.. (imagine that).. I shot a total of like 120 round of 308 :o

Pic 1 at 200 yards setting up my new Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 (Nikoplex) Pic 2 at 200 yards after setup.. (10 shots 1 5/8") 8) Going back this weekend hopefully and will post more..

What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?
YWHIC replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
yeah.. sold the AK47 & AK74 to buy the AR 8) figured the 1 caliber rule was better than buying 3 different cals.. -

I know my 16" DPMS with HEAVY BARREL holds good thus far at 200 yards.. shot 1 5/8" this past weekend with 10 rounds @ 200yds. :) Shot some Hornady 150gr SST & Hornady TAP 110gr.. both rated at 3000 FPS on the boxes.. (to be read ZINGGGGG >>>>> ) Al
