  1. Shooters, I offer Southwest ammunition for all my students if you need factory ammo. This brand is of the highest quality match grade 175 smk .308win ammunition for $550 a case of 500rnds shipped check out my link ---> Here just to be clear, a 500rnd case of Federal gold Medal Match is $850 shipped. This is a savings of $300 for a better product is nothing to sneeze at.
  2. I think you are spot on. I do not leave any firearms with a round chambered unless its on my body "pistol in holster, rifle slung" Now for a shotgun of any kind, manually operated or auto leaving it loaded is just a bad way to roll. to many people get hurt of all ages with loaded firearms. If the time it takes me to rack a Moss 500 is going to get me killed, I was screwed before I got to the shotgun anyhow. thats how I look at it. now on the side story, the shells that are loaded. In a typical 5rnd tube I teach to load 1 slug, 2 buck shot, 2 bird shot in that order because you will shoot the bird shot first. If the bird shot does not work I hit them with buck, if that fails I hit them with a slug, if all that fails I need to reload and get moving ASAP!!!!! anyhow.
  3. DrHntr, You are on the right track, there are ways to make the BDC reticles work for your needs. The first step to to know the bullet drop of the load you will shoot. Next is to find a BDC reticle you like. Once done is simple to make it all work how you want. Take the MOA you have from 100 to lets say 600yds Les assume this is the drop chart: yds - MOA 100 0.00 150 0.75 200 1.75 250 2.75 300 4.25 350 5.5 400 7.00 450 8.5 500 10.25 550 12.00 600 14.00 Next, go to a 100yd range and take a piece of cardboard and mark every 3 inches going down from the top with a 1" orange dot. Between these dots draw a line in blue and red every inch. For a total of 18" Now take that riflescope with the BDC reticle mounted on the rifle and aim at the top of the chart of orange dots, red and blue lines. At each BDC hold point write down the inches it covers. So it should be like this: Now this the measurements I just gave you it should be: the 1st hold line in the reticle is at about 2.5” the 2nd hold line in the reticle is at about 3.5” the 3rd hold line in the reticle is at about 6” the 4th hold line in the reticle is at about 8.75” the 5th hold line in the reticle is at about 11.75” When we look at the bullet drop chart in MOA above, we can now convert the data the 1st hold line in the reticle 175yds the 2nd hold line in the reticle 275yds the 3rd hold line in the reticle 375yds the 4th hold line in the reticle 450yds the 5th hold line in the reticle 525yds So that's how you skin this cat. Do not worry its easy.
  4. Shooters, I asked imschur if he had a section for training, and with in 24 hours he put this up and asked me to mod it for him. Well I greatly appreciate the offer and will do my best. My ideas, A place to talk about real world Tactics and Training for all types of firearms, with a strong emphasis to the semi-auto rifle, more so on the AR family. I am not all knowing, or my way is the highway kind of guy. I look forward to the ideas, techniques and thoughts of all of you. Together we can learn and be better supporters of our 2nd amendment rights found in the constitution
  5. TacBlade, I would rather fail, then to never try. I was told a long time ago that a person that is not afraid to fail, will always succeed in life. Its very true. I have my failures in life also. But I know I gave it 100% and I did my best, it just did not line up for me at that time. thats more then 99% of the world can say, and I am a better person for it.
  6. guys, I run the JP gas blocks. BUT you can do one our self if you have the tools. If you do not have a drill press, and dies its to costly. Check these out LINK I use the low profile under the handguards. I got to go christmas shopping and will hit you guys back later.
  7. TacBlade, I can see you and I are cut from the same cloth. I was in the Army from 1996-2005, during that time I was with Cco 1/325 AIR, that's part of the 2nd BDE 82nd Airborne Div. Then for my last year I was working as part of the cadre at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Ft Benning. but in 2005, I basically got a med drop from the system due to my injury's in Iraq. And the rest is history as they say.
  8. I think the Ar market is to full of options and brands. Every company from the big green to a mom and pop builds Ar-15's. Its just flooded right now. Then to make it worse the rifle system is so simple to build that most people that own a complete rifle, order uppers for one lower, and that limits sales. We will see how it goes, but with the AWB sun setting the sale of AR-15/10/LR-308 went nuts and kept on going up and up. Also the lack of control from most military units letting Joe E-1 put stuff on his rifle, get a picture and your sales go up. Now since the military has a process and a package for each M-4's few Soldiers and Marines are going out of pocket for equipment. We will see how this comes out but like both of you two, its not going to be good for some. With Freedom Group owning Bushmaster and DPMS and building rifles for Rem, I think it will soon be under one roof, at one factory, and three names of rifles.
  9. Thanks alot TacBlade I see there is alot of great info here and I hope I can help in some way too. What unit did you serve in with the big Red One?
  10. Question? how many of you use one? I found it to be a great help to my 16" DPMS LR-308 It reduced felt recoil down to almost a .223, very much like a 6.8SPC Do you use one and if so how did you time your gas system?
  11. I run the basic JP trigger at 4.5lbs in my DPMS LR-308. I find it to be just fine for the cost and quality. I like a single stage more then a 2 stage by a long shot. It took me about 30 min's to install the the JP Trigger so its real easy to do.
  12. What up homes
  13. Brother, no rush, and no worries. I like your site. Its funny that branson1369 told me about this place. All I shoot is Semi-autos. I have two AR-15's and one DPMS LR-308 This site fits me well ;)
  14. I think that a 16" .308win is about 700yds for first round hits with limited training. If you know how to run a rifle, 800yds with a 16" for first round hits and keeping the shots at about 1 MOA to 1.5 MOA groups.
  15. I am, and I have a spray can. just send them to me and I will hook your stuff up :)
  16. imschur, Thanks. I sent you a pm.
  17. Guys, I run a factory DPMS 16" LR-308 with a 1/10 twist. I have shot it to 700yds, but mostly 600yds and less. What I have found works best is to shoot a lighter bullet like a 155grn match grade with a faster powder like W748 and mag primers I get loads that are able to perform like a longer barrel rifle. Just an idea.
  18. Hello, I am John Boyette I live in central NC. Glad to be here.
