Yeah, I knew about those... I've just been leery of mixing and matching bolts and carriers. But I think it's come to that. If ya want a complete BCG, time to mix 'n match.
-
<lmao> You, me and apparently hundreds of others. When they do show up, they're gone before I ever get there.
-
VERY cool!
-
That is a good one. They have carriers, but no bolts :'(
-
Man... I got all excited about BCG's on cheaperthandirt.com. They're a good company. They're listed far more expensive than expected... chrome $292. But it doesn't matter, they now list "Unfortunately your selection is on Back Order." *sigh*
-
I said nearly the same thing over on another forum. There were a couple guys thinking about making 'em. The problem is that the bolts have to be hardened, which requires the oven and quenching setup. Then the bolts are usually final ground after it's hardened. If I hear of anything else, I'll update this board. Please do the same. I need two BCG's too. Oz

Barrel broken in yet? How's she group?
-
My initial post question was more basic than the complexities that I know exist. I machine my own barrel nuts, hand-guards, jam nuts and gas blocks. And 80% DPMS style lowers (from Tactical Machining). I can understand how frustrating it must be trying to buy pieces and parts from this various standard platform. >:( The beauty of the AR-15 is that there's "one spec to rule them all". Oz
-
Thanks y'all. Great info here.
-
Thank you gents! That's what I was looking for. Yeah, the outside of the nuts I assumed would all be very different. I was interested in the barrel retaining part. I should have know that DPMS flavored and Armalite would be different. Oz
-
Does anyone have any prints for 308 barrel nuts? Maybe I should take a step back first... are the DPMS flavored and Armalite barrel nuts the same? Does anyone have prints/specs for a DPMS 308 AR barrel nut? Oz
-
There are AR-15 aluminum gas blocks all over the place. And in my quick search, I've seen quite a few aluminum 308 gas blocks. Does anyone know of any problems or concerns with aluminum 308 gas blocks?
-
Yeah... when I machined the TM-10 lowers, the only thing I found was some hand-drawn dimensions. They got the job done. But making the upper from scratch... yeah. Needs more. I did find this: http://grabcad.com/library/dpms-lower-and-upper-receiver But you have to wonder how accurate they might be. I'll probably output some dimensions and see how they line up. Oz
-
Does anyone know if DPMS style / AR308 upper blue prints exist? Might be willing to try machining one... The Armalite AR10 stuff is all out there, pretty easy to find, but I need DPMS style. Doesn't seem to be as readily available. Oz

I joined. And posted pics of my dedicated AR-15 in .22 from LAR Grizzly. Looks like a pretty cool group. Oz -
PRACTICING TRIGGER CONTROL
Oz replied to LUCKYB40's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
How serious are you about getting better and learning trigger control? Here's the extreme. If you're okay with getting a bit better, cool. If you're interested in being one of the best at your local range, read on. I shoot competitive air rifle (air pistol is my primary discipline). No, that's not me in the picture. Anyway, air rifle has no limit to the trigger weight. I have a cheaper Walther LGM-2, the trigger is set to about 160 grams. What's neat about air rifle is that you can shoot targets in your house. Practice and get to the point you can shoot an ISSF air rifle score of 525/600 and you'll be able to out-shoot 90% of your local range with high-power rifle. Case in point... --I'm totally bragging now. Last Saturday I hit a milk jug at 340 yards. With open iron sights. Using a bone stock Mosin Nagant. Standing. ;D I have witnesses, it took a few rounds to get it. Yes, maybe not Earth shattering when compared to Palma shooters shooting at targets at 1000 yards with .308 using open iron sights. For Palma shooters, it all comes down to their trigger control. It might all be overkill, depending on the level of trigger control you really want. But all of this precision shooting and learning good trigger technique translates to any rifle you choose to shoot, be it a Ruger 10/22 or a 50 BMG. But now you have all the info to shoot for the stars if you're interested <thumbsup> Oz -
Short of the ultra cool KR7 by Kaiser, the side-charge solution is virtually the same for them all. Use any slick side/slab side upper, mill a slot the length of the bolt travel, drill and tap a hole in the BCG, screw in the knob and you're done. Yeah, you need access to a mill, drill press and carbide bit/tap. A shop like my dads would probably charge ~$75 to do all of it (supply your own knob). All well worth it to get rid of the *#&! rear charging handle ;D

New to AR308.com - Anyone hear of Tactical Machining?
Oz replied to mariodesmo's topic in Introductions
I picked up two 80% TM-10 lowers and 3 80% AR-15 lowers. All 5 were good, solid lowers. The TM-10 lowers are billet (not forged) as many of the 308 AR lowers we see. They are good looking too boot. Have no worries with TM. Oz -
I understand your desire to sell these as a set. But if for some reason it makes sense to to sell the lower to someone else, I'd take the upper. Oz
-
Probably safe to call this one. Time of death... now. That's too bad.
-
LOL! <laughs> Actually, no!!! "Note: BATTLE MUG IS NOT DISHWASHER SAFE. All aluminum anodized products, including cookware and eating utensils should be cleaned using a mild detergent and warm water. The use of automatic dishwashers should be avoided because the dishwasher detergents are very high in alkalinity (Calgon pH 9.9; Electrasol and Finish pH 11). Strong alkaline solutions are used to strip anodic coatings and in time will permanently damage the anodized finish. (Plus, we're pretty sure that the pure badassery of Battle Mug will absolutely destroy your dishwasher!!!)"
-
Well... that price does NOT include the carry handle. "Carry Handles are not included in the base price of Battle Mug. We figure that most of you will have one or two laying around like we did. If you need a carry handle, we offer mil-spec (imported) carry handles at a fair price in our webstore" Their carry handles are only $33.95 if you don't have one of your own ;)
-
Nice. You can buy 'em one at a time. http://shop.battlemug.com/Battle-Mug-BM001.htm $189.
-
That's pretty cheap. But yeah, once-fired which isn't necessarily bad. And the projectiles are bi-metal. Probably fine, but a lot of people will grimace because the bullets are magnetic. Meh. A while a go, Copes had the new production (1990's) Paki ammo. 250 rounds in an ammo can. I recall is was $95. That meets the criteria you set... but it is Berdan primed. If your criteria also included that you wanted to reload it, that's a lot of extra work to convert it to boxer. But it's so cheap, I bought it for use in my HK stuff because the HK flutes mess up the brass so much, I don't see a point in reloading it anyway. If found it locally for $85/250 in an ammo can. I talked the guy locally into 2 cans for $80. The stuff shoots great and "supposedly" isn't corrosive. Just another option you might run into --if you keeps your eyes open. Oz

Oh man! That Kaiser KR-7 is super nice. It copied the HK charging handle style. Yeah, that is very cool. It took a while to track one down. I stole this picture from SnipersHide so everyone could see it. Me likey.
