  1. NICE!!!!
  2. I think that what goes around, comes around. What it all really comes down to is that we (both liberal and conservative) want to stomp rights we don't like, while crying about others stomping the rights we do. The very diversity and division created by this behavior leaves the door wide open for tyrants to take over. In a nutshell, all the bad things that are happening to us are well deserved nemesis that we ourselves created.
  3. You should make a fail-safe hand carving kit for these for those who don't have their own mills. Will broadly open up your customer base and give you a personal holding in the market.
  4. Duracoat.
  5. COOL!! I wanna see it! I'm quite impressed with this company. I figured (based on their gunbroker comments) that they are not going to be another blackthorn like so many fear, but I was not expecting them to be this nice. When I ordered my upper, I had asked about the BCGs they offer and the man said they are out of them at the moment, but he sounded like he was expecting more before too long. I here you on muzzle lapping. I do this to all my guns. The muzzle attachment I intend to get for mine is the PWS FSC-30. Though I am not particularly bothered by recoil, I found that the less a gun kicks, the easier it is to hit accurately and stay on target, so I intend to make the recoil as little as possible. Though probably not till the middle of next year, I plan to install a hydraulic recoil buffer as well. At least the the extent of what I have in mind at the moment (which can and has a good chance of changing over time), the ultimate goal is something very similar to the AR-10 shown at the upper right of the forum page, the main differences being the grip and muzzle attachment.
  6. It was made by Red-X. I've been aching to see the quality of this new company's products first hand. I have nothing to compare it head to head to, but based on what I recall seeing, it LOOKS a little better then the stuff I've seen by DPMS, but only in the sense of the fluted stainless barrel (which I'm sure they make, but I have yet to see them. The overall quality and style reminds me allot of the S&W M&P 15. Of course, I am only going by looks. It'll be January or February before I can complete the gun and put some rounds down range. Below are pictures I just took. The odd color to the barrel is residue from the bonding agent left behind when they removed the flash suppressor at my request. The only thing I dislike about it is the main thing I dislike about .308 ARs in general - weight. Though not as heavy as it looks, it still DOES weigh a bit. I am now very glad I went with a fluted barrel. Had I gone without, it probably WOULD be as heavy as it looks. The volume, depth and length of the fullers suggest that a whole buck knife worth of metal has been removed from the barrel. I'd hate for it to be any heavier then it is. That said, I've held a few others and this SEAMS (based on memory) to be a little lighter, probably due to the fluting, so I have no complaints.
  7. Sounds to me like he couldn't hold his water. Ever heard of Addax Tactical? If not, you should look them up. TBH, I've been on both ends of that situation at different times of my adult life. I was pretty naive at first but learned from my mistakes. I'd tell him. Better he find out while he's playing with it then in the middle of a real situation. Ugly situations just sort of surprise you. Everything is fine one minute, the next you're fighting for your life or someone else'. He might not be able to accept it at first but if you prove your case, he WILL believe you (he won't be able to not believe you) and will eventually come to grips and sort things out.
  8. Welcome my friend.
  9. Welcome aboard. I hope things go well for you here. JD receiver sets look great. I know nothing about function though. LOL.
  10. Yeah. That's where we get in to the whole "feeding" issue. Such a thing can certainly be done, but I have a hunch that such a receiver is going to be super expensive and have some reliability issues by it's self.
  11. I guess I would have to play with various mags head to head to be sure, but from what I have seen so far, It shouldn't be very difficult. What I was thinking of is a 2 part mag catch. A rack with a heavy spring that the shooter presses a button on to release, and that rack it's self housing various catches that are powered by a softer spring. The idea is that they would all work as you insert the magazine, but only the one configured for the specific magazine to actually catch it, and when the shooter presses the mag release, the entire rack moves out of place, effectively engaging all mag releases at once. The bolt stop could probably be configured similarly. For that to work, the left side of the receiver would have to be more spacious to house the racks, but otherwise it should work fine. Yes, it would be more expensive then normal. I for one probably wouldn't be able to afford it. But I am sure some folks who can would love it.
  12. I've always been a .30 caliber type. I've been skeptical of the AR-15 platform up until about 2 years ago. As soon as I got sold on the AR-15, a .308 was only a matter of time. That said, though I have yet to actually fire a .308 AR type rifle, I have a hunch that I'm going to end up equally appreciating both the .223 and .308 versions.
  13. I'm new here so I may be in the wrong place. Forgive me if so. I have had an idea in my head for a while ago, or at least ever since I've started giving serious consideration to a .308 AR. This was mainly inspired by the fact that I'm in California and was originally looking at a featureless build (if you live in California, you'll see the relevance). I've noticed that there are allot of .308 ARs that feed and function different magazines just by having different lower receivers. Has anyone ever considered a lower receiver that can accept a variety of mags, such as LR-308, Armalite, FAL, G-3 etc? I know it sounds crazy but I myself figured out how it might be doable, assuming the feeding can be worked out. Seams to me like there'd be a strong demand for something like that, assuming it's functional and reliable.
  14. 1 overriding reason why not to. AR-10 is banned in California. Ever consider a California model? Perhaps the exact same thing as your regular AR-10 except the receiver marked "CAR-10" (California AR-10) and a bullet button installed? AR-10 is beyond what I can afford, but I'd think there are allot of folks in this state who'd be giving you business if they could.

    Hello

That's always good. Being a LEO, the most common line you'd here from me in gun building is, "Will doing this get me in to trouble." LOL. I seam to spend a HUGE amount of my gun building time making sure I'm not doing anything that's going to get me in to trouble. Outside of that, I am REALLY hoping to eventually make some local friends who are in to gun building as a hobby. If you want to meet up some time and trade knowledge, ideas, etc. I am all for it. I REALLY want to believe that but I cannot. I'm just not that rich. If I went with only the very cheapest stuff I could find, I'd still be lucky to have it done by the end of January. And I'd have to completely ignore things like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Not going to happen. It's nice wishful thinking though.

    Hello

Thanks man. I'm in the neighborhood of Sunrise mall. What exactly is it that you do?

    Hello

Hello guys. I'm from the Sacramento area of California. I recently custom ordered a Red X .308 upper as a start to a .308 Build. It's basically the one they have advertised on their website except it comes with a standard fluted barrel in stead of their bull barrel. UPS tracking says it'll be here on Thursday. I joined this community to learn a little about the world of .308 AR parts to decide on how to go about finishing the project. I'm a little experienced in AR type rifle building. I have a 5.56 lower I assembled from a stripped receiver, parts kit and various furniture. I'm currently waiting on an Addax ZK upper that I pre-ordered. Once here, that'll complete my first rifle of this type. I am not expecting to have this .308 build up and running until Jan or Feb of next year and even then I intend to continually upgrade it. The problem right now, as I have mentioned, is not knowing much about the quality and performance of .308 AR parts nor am I well versed in parts compatibility. I'm here to learn the ropes. I look forward to getting to know you guys.
