You guys who like to shoot .22 and might be bored
moagm316 replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
I have a .22 converison bolt for my AR15 and it works absolutely flawlessly. It eats everything. I am also in the process of building a top notch cutom 10/22. I will be using a Power Custom Grand Master Titanium Actikon Kit, Titanium Extractor, and competition sear. -
My nickel boron 2 stage triggers are on their way.

Considering a Mega Machine AR and MA-TEN Group Buy offering

Thanks for the awesome receiver. I got it without a hitch, well without a hitch on your end that is. LOL. I will definitely be ordering more stuff from you in the future. -
I was looking into an 18" noveske barrell with a seven flute. They have stated that htey can shave a TON of weight off of the barrell. The intended purpose of the rifle is a precision rifle, that will not weigh a ton. I would prefer to get it into the 9 or 10 lb range naked w/o optics or magazine. I was looking at optics. For my AR15 I am looking at a Leupold VXR Patrol 3-9 or the VX6 2-12. I know I am looking at a differnece between 600 and 1000 dolars. I am not set on an optic for my .308 yet. I am looking at the 2 to 3 k price range. I want to stretch my trigger finger out to 1000 yards and touch some steel. Any thoughts on either of my choices for the AR15, or my current build.

Steph Hayden (Sons of Guns) Like You've Never Seen Her Before!

I heard that they lost their FFL and the guy that quit was the holder of the FFL that they were using. They threw that poor guy under the bus when it was that will guys mistake in the first place for getting uncle neppie involved. -
This is supposed to be a precision rifle. I like the PRS, but maybe the new Magpul MOE stock would be better. Is the Gator guard really that much lighter than the Troy TRX? I cannot find any weights for the TRX, but I find it hard to believe that the Gator Guard is 10 oz with the barrell nut. I have tried to find some more detailed reviews of the Apex with detailed weights. I also cannot find any difnitive weights for the TRX 308 either.

I have not hear that sound either. I use good springs in all my rifles. -
JP Silent Captured Action Spring (Buffer Spring/Buffer)

The thing that I am wondering though is what is the life of this system. This might not be a good solution for a SHTF rifle. -
Quote from. http://www.jprifles.com/1.4.7.2_os.php "One of my pet peeves is the sound of a wood rasp coming from my rifle. I find it totally intolerable, even though it is the normal sound of rifles from every other manufacturer. Over the years, we have spent a great deal of time hand prepping our action springs and extension tubes to get that near-silent, glass-smooth feel to our actions. Anyone who owns a JP rifle knows exactly what I mean since it's the most pronounced and immediately noticeable difference the first time someone handles and cycles one of our rifles; the operating system honestly feels like it's running on roller bearings. It's this obsession that we've taken to its natural conclusion after a couple years of thought, design, prototyping and testing our JP Silent Captured Springs (pat. pend.). The best way to describe the results of this innovative system is the complete absence of mechanical feedback from the operating system under live fire and a smooth, silent feel to the rifle when you charge or manually cycle it. No rough, raspy sound or feel. No twang or vibration from the spring during live fire, just the beautiful sound of silence. Even in a very rough extension tube, the rifle runs smooth since the spring never contacts the tube, running instead on a guide rod similar to a 1911 guide rod system. If you've followed the history of ARs, you probably remember the craze for pneumatic AR-15 action systems several years ago. Those pneumatic systems also made for a silent, smooth running rifle, but they had some fatal flaws that the new JPSCS effectively avoids. First, they stop working in the cold due to a little thing called Boyle's Law. The new JPSCS uses an old-fashioned, reliable spring system that works under any conditions and has an innovative buffer system that rides the guide rod with the carrier. The second problem with the pneumatics is that they didn't have the dead blow hammer effect of a true buffer system. An AR-15 without a buffer is a malfunction waiting to happen. The dead blow hammer effect of the buffer is essential to preventing bolt carrier bounce resulting in ignition failure on account of the hammer impacting the firing pin while the bolt is not fully in battery during rapid fire or full auto fire. The buffer also increases the reliability of a rifle by "hammering" the carrier forward to press the action fully into battery even when the chamber is fouled. In the JPSCS, the buffer itself is "captured" in the assembly providing all the mechanical functionality of a standard buffer retainer plunger but with the fringe benefit of greater ease in cleaning and service thanks that comes with a simple drop-in part like the JPSCS. The basic system is available for both AR-15 and LR-308/AR-10 systems with an optional spacer to allow function with either carbine- or rifle-length extension tubes. Thanks to ease of assembly/disassembly, we will also be offering substitute spring kits with a variety of spring rates to let you can experiment to find the rate best suited for your particular setup. I'm already switching every rifle I own over to JP Silent Captured Springs, so don't be surprised if you do the same once you've tried one." It looks interesting what are your thoughts? I will be waiting for some life fire tests. AKA Over the beach.

The apex site reports that the rifle length weighs 10 oz with hardware. I will be running the noveske 18" it says that it is a carbine gas system. Is there any advantage to using the longer rifle length rail?

The Apex interests me very much. Are these of the same quality of DD?

I am kinda in a pickle. I am choosing between a nightforce 5.5 - 22 illuminated with the NP-R1 reticle. I have a connection that can get me a Trijicon Accupoint 5 - 20 for less than 1k. I was also looking at outfitting my AR15 with a trijicon accupoint 3-9. I have also been looking into U.S. Optics. I was thinking about possibly puchasing one really good scope and using it for all of my rifles and just keeping a log book on my PDA of what the zero settings are for each rifle. I also demand illumination in my optics. I have some eye issues that almost demand it. My only concern is I have seen illumination on some reticles wash out in brighter lit areas. What are your thoughts?
-
My hunch is that it is not the roller cam pin. Does anyone have any different experience?
-
Any issues?
-
I broke a flat tipped screwdriver on it. I know it says not to, but I lapped the sides of my cam pin so that it would fall out. Any "Issues" with this?

Need a good trigger for hunting.

I have a nickel boron coated spikes battle trigger. It is a really nice single stage trigger. I have been thinking about moving to a two stage for some time and I will definitely do so for the AR10 setup. Any suggestions? The rifle is a 16" lightweight profile Noveske barrel with Nickel boron coated SI Defense upper and lower. I use it as my everything rifle, as it is the only AR that i own right now. I have a bipod and a Larue POD on the rear for use as somewhat of a DMR gun when needed. Fire suit zipped up. It is my SHTF, 3gun, Home Defense rifle. Someday I will get rid of the light profile barrell and go with a Fluted 16" Noveske for the simmilar weight, with more rigidity. BTW the weight on the gun w/o optics is only 6lbs. -
I am going to install the enhanced reliability red hammer spring, and yellow trigger spring on the RRA NM 2 Stage.
-
I want to buy an old possibly beat up 10/22 as a project gun. I am very strongly tempted to take my heirloom gun and do it. The dark side is pulling me in. Man if I could only find a really cheap used 10/22.
-
I am going MATEN.

already done. I bought the RRA NM 2stage. I have heard a ton of great things about it. Plus the whole LPK cost me less than 150.00

I don't care what Armalite says. This cam pin should come out. It is not just tight it is almost in there permanently. If the cam pin cant come out my accuracy will suck if I cant clean the dang bolt.
