  1. I found the 110 Vmax with 3031 powder @ 2900 to 3010 fps the most accurate of any load i tested.. Shootin through the same hole basically at 100 yds. Savage model 10 308 and DPMS LR 308.. 1-10 twist. Right behind it was the 125 gr SST...2800 to 2900 fps... The only round that i used IMR 3031 for too. The 168 gr factory SST is 2nd place to the 110 gr Vmax. The target below is me zeroing in a scope , and the final one click at a time until i got it...(125 gr SST) 308, on the DPMS 308 @ 100 yds . My scope is set to 4x on this target... This is the coyote and hog killer ,, that i can shoot them through the ears with.
  2. Sisco, just remember, that it doesn't matter too much, what you shoot a hog with, as far as caliber...Its where you hit them...Head shots are best, or heart shot. The heart is low in the chest and right at the hogs elbow joint. My Son shot one in the left front shoulder with a 270 at 125 yds...The bullet exited out the right rear leg....It still ran 100 yds .. lol
  3. You and i are are both newbies ...lol
  4. I shoot boat tail bullets exclusively in my dpms 308 and my savage 10 ,, never had a problem, but I used to have a feeding problem in the AR rifle.. So if you are reloading and some are feeding or sticking , causing mal functions, I can tell you how I got past that problem.
  5. Oh yeah nice one.... 168 hits like a freight train
  6. shot at 60 yds and one shot at 100 yds above...125 gr SST 46 grs Varget Factory crimp, ... This bullet and the 125 SST performs the same at 100 yds +
  7. I'm 71 and retired , when i'm not predator hunting i like to shoot a lot, and these two rounds have no recoil. What surprised me was that i didn't have to trim the cases after fired... Recently i tried out the 110 on a hog and it was my bragging shot lol. 225 yds the hog was running and i got it just below the ear. Using a tripod though. There was 2 of them and i got both . The 110 gr went threw and threw, bout barely exited (explodes after entry, thin jacket) Varget powder has the same accuracy. The brown hog is 250 lbs. The bullet does a lot of damage and since i field tested it ,,, i'll be using these more.
  8. No not a factory load. I use it in my 308 DPMS and my Savage 308 1-10 twist'''' I had the powder and decided to try it . I was impressed, but these 2 rounds , the 110 hornady GMX and the 125 SST are the only rounds that i had this accuracy with...It never performed well (3031) in the 150 gr bullets for me in years past.
  9. I don't use any conventional rounds. What conventional round are you talking about... Sometimes i think i'm on the wrong topic or at 70 maybe i get a little forgetful
  10. Who cares , I just posted some reloading info is all....I been doing this since 1973,,, whata heck i'm new at this
  11. I have a DPMS LR 308 and a Savage 10, that have a 1-10 twist ....bother shoot the same , more accurate than any other round so far.. shoots through one ragged hole at 100 yds...I have plenty of other loads i have done too...but i wanted to see what a light round will do as far as accuracy...I have, some 125 gr SST loaded up right now for trial with varget this time...It worked as accurate as the 110 on a previous trip to the range.
  12. 110 gr VMAX 43.2 grs 3031 factory crimp
  13. The silver case gauge indicates it is not sized properly and to do a full length size again, then check it..If you are just neck sizing, this gauge won't work for you.
  14. I never use a roll crimp on a 308,,,, No crimp at all is better...Lee makes a special crimp tool that insures the shoulder and case do not deform...called a factory crimp tool. It crimps from the sides not roll crimping; as where a little too much deforms the shoulder causing the carrier to not go into battery
  15. Nice shooting,,,,,,I just reloaded some 165 gr SST, and got the same grouping at 100 yds .... with my DPMS 308 and my Savage same group... Smashes hogs
  16. There's not that many rules and regulations as one may think..... common sense and responsible Texans have shown, that we are capable of getting our rights back, that had been taken away... You only have to go back to 1985 to see that... It was up to the police officer to arrest or not arrest if he pulled your car over, and saw your gun...and I don't know of many Texans, that did not carry a gun in their car then. They still carry them no matter what the rules, or what kind of license they are supposed to have... So nothing has changed except laws.
  17. I lived in the boonies and these are facts... I always had a plan and my Son and Wife knew exactly what it was, matter of fact; they would say it word for word to me when I repeated it. lol Pistol In bedrooms hidden 45 near door and Winchester 1300 behind that one.... Dog to alert us and outside lights with motion detectors.... For intrusion situation wife guards back door and is concealed (44 Mag) Son covers hall and other windows in bedrooms... I take the front door with 45 ACP 10:30 PM lights are out and walking down hall to Bed.... There's a knock at the door.... I find black woman in distress and wants to come in a use phone... (outside screen door is still locked) Son took up position to back me up with shotgun... He is not visible .... but can see clearly... and down the hall behind me. Wife is in position with lights off near back door.... I go to get phone and bump door and a big perp 6' 4 jumps into the opening, with a sign post raised to strike... I point the 45 and Son points shotgun through screen door......We holler wrong house and drop the post .,,. We used the dog to clear the property with.... no problem... Have a plan
  18. Thanks for the info on this guys,,,, I swapped out for the correct buffer... took it home and installed it myself... Working fine now.... Now to the range tomorrow morning ... trying out a new scope I got
  19. My report would be , "send out the police and fire dept cause a car is on fire, that some thieves were in. same thieves just tried to rob me and I was in fear for my life , so I shot them all. Please bring me more ammo too because I am empty.... "
  20. Ok , thats what I was thinkin and I'm going to go, and do that tomorrow.... 98z5V I appreciate your feedback and explanation...and thank you Survival shop for your expertise also. I do a lot of predator hunting with this weapon and need the fixed stock on the" hammer" . I love this weapon especially if I surprise a bunch of hogs in a blind gulch...it may be the difference between tore up by hogs or cutting bacon strips.....
  21. The buffer they gave me is 5 15/16' long, so i know the buffer is too long.... I'm taking it back, and gonna find a 308 gun smith ... thank you for the info buddy. (Spring is like 13 1/2 ") 39 coils
  22. I got the same problem with the buffer, on My DPMS LR 308... I just had a shop install a stock and I kept the adjustable stock. They put the original spring in it, and it wasn't strong enough to go into battery ... I took it back and they put a heavier spring in it and a different buffer (long one) I went to the range and ' The bolt wouldn't lock back. I noticed that the buffer in my adjustable stock was a lot shorter... I'm confused on this ... Right now I got the original adjustable stock and OEM spring and short buffer.... it works fine .... but for the stock I don't know
  23. I never had a rifle that was so finicky of the rounds I use in it...- since , I replaced the collapsible stock it got worse... and realized it was a different length for the spring to accommodate... So I put the the original stock back on it...action is a lot harder to pull now ,,, ok good. I polished the feed ramp and the headspace...... if this doesn't work I'm sending it to DPMS...
  24. I did search for DPMS 308 chambering problems
  25. I have had my DPMS LR 308 for bout a year now. It took a little getting used to for me, as far as carrying it. Once I got the one point sling set-up, I love it. Mine can shoot a group at 100yds , I can cover with a dime. I love this rifle. Recoil is nothing like my savage bolt 308, I got a Kruger TacDriver IR 1.5x 5 x on it and its good for 200 yds for me. Yotes get the 147 FMJ. I use 150 gr PP for deer and hogs. I just did a camo job on it myself, and I'll put the p <munch>ic on the site later.
