  1. Soooo... got my PRI block today. It went on easier than the DPMS. I cleaned up the barrel and used no oil. 100 rounds.... zero failures. Woot woot! However... The block is the same. I have fouling on the back side. , but it does not seem to be from the tube. Last time it was obvious on the tube itself. Plus fouling out the front. Can't really tell if it is the tube or the block since the tube hole is drilled all the way through. The rifle cycled fine. I lubed it up good. Lubed it again after 40, but not necessarily dripping like before. Shot the last 60 and called it good. I will only know if it is still leaking gas after I clean it up and go shooting again, but I am not expecting to do that again soon. At this point I will run out of ammo with none on the shelves.
  2. Done deal. You guys are the best. I really appropriate all the help for the newbi. <thumbsup> <thumbsup>
  3. ^^^ Could not say for certain, because the rifle did cycle when lubed. And I checked the tube and ports and it seems clear. And for the block moving, I could not tell any damage to the tube. I don't know. At leas the markings on the barrel where it was on did not have any weird pattern and it looked the same all the way around. I'm not going to bother though, I will order a low pro PRI block tonight. Do any of you see any great need to get an adjustable one?
  4. The block was still tight, but I put a bit of heat to it and it came right off. There isn't anything obviously wrong. Nothing plugged. But you can see the powder fouling on the barrel and block by the port. Is that normal looking or no? [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0063_zpsce3a80fa.jpg the rest of it looked fine. No obvious gas escaping else where. I used some P-oil so can't say how much oil was or wasn't there before.
  5. Just curious, do you guys build different uppers to use? I wasn't going for a long range sniper build, but with a 20" SS barrel and scope, it isn't exactly a close quarters weapon. So I thought about building a different close quarter upper... carbine, 16" light barrel with sights and red dot type system. That won't happen any time soon, just curious if you guys swap out stuff.... or just build new rifles. ;D
  6. It's pretty irritating, because stockpiling ammo is just not needed. I mean they are not banning ammo. Obviously I want some, new rifle and I would like to have 500-1000 rounds on hand. Lots of new purchases so I can understand that... but it's like end of days. Ammo here has been rationed since SH. Limits and bare shelves. All priced are way up. Best I could do is a $1 a round of cheap stuff, and $1.50 for Fed Prem... I stopped buying that when it hit $2/rnd.
  7. I'm going to try and get it cleaned up today. See if I can get the block off and see what is going on. More than likely I will get a new gas block to rule it out. I am borrowing some scopes from a friend... something weird that both were out of adjustment and I still could not get them up. But the point is, I got to shoot it, and there is no reason wasting good ammo when I'm not even sighting anything in..... specially since it is so expensive and there is none available. I'll update with what I find. But I do have some scope questions if anyone wants to follow me over.... ;D
  8. ^^^ OK, well i got the block I have now for that, but it isn't the same plane. I'm no AR expert, but that didn't seem right. Ya, I might change fore ends. I really just wanted a smooth tube, so it's good for now. I have thought perhaps I would build another upper some day for a CQ carbine. Have a long range upper, or swap it out for short range. For now I think I will just pull the trigger on a PRI block and call it good. Doubt I will have it by Friday, but I will give it a try.
  9. @98Z5V.... ya, it won't be in the way with my DPMS tube, I just want to be able to take it off if need be. Or can you still take them off any block? What about sights... if I do get sights, does it have to be the same plane as the receiver... meaning not low pro? I'm not getting sights right now. No need really, and I still need to buy a scope. I just don't want to buy a block and then not be able to if I want to.
  10. Just making sure... it's silly to ask for help then argue it. ;D Good point.... like I need good points to spend money. <lmao> I sure do appreciate all the help guys!
  11. OK, the DPMS was cheap. I guess I'll get another one. Looking at PRI... why do they send a regular tube with their blocks? So does "low profile" mean the FF tube will go over it? I wanted a rail to put back up sights on, but Just in the short time of having this... well it is no CQ carbine, that's for sure. :)
  12. The build was bad enough... sort of hard to spend more money... just to be sure... I figure the oil will seep. It's what it does. Like if it wasn't there, then the block would just be sealed... but a film of oil will flow. I had planned to go shoot again next Friday. I guess the worst I could take it off, clean it up, check it out and try it again. If that does not work I can replace it. I'm not trying to argue the point.. I don't know. You guys do. Just trying to make sure. Is it true most rifles are over gassed? (obviously mine is under, maybe) I originally was going to get a JP adjustable, but then did not go with the low mass carrier and figured I did not need it.
  13. Gas tube looks the same today. Block moved, more oil. Set screws are tight, that is as fas as they go in. If I take the block off, I will probably drill dimples. [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0059_zps24e69016.jpg [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0058_zps35dadb7f.jpg [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0055_zps6453b6f3.jpg So it was lubed up a bit more. :D [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0053_zpsb9522f9e.jpg [img width=810 height=456]http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/free2801/IMAG0051_zps02024117.jpg
  14. O.K.... new development. So... what happens when you do not leave enough room for the gas tube... a gap between block and barrel shoulder? Even if you damage the tube, I assume it would not go into batter right... the BCG could not go forward enough? I am taking some pics of my stuff o post... and now my block has a gap... and no, it most certainly was not before. The screws were relatively tight. I checked them because the gun smith said to re-tighten after the barrel warmed up. While there still seems to be some fouling at the gas tube, it is less than yesterday once I got the FF tube off. Pics to follow.
  15. How can you mess up a gas block? It's just a block with a couple holes?
  16. So I do not notice anything from the rear. It's just at the tube. I do not think much is coming from the front... other than some oil seepage. Like I said, yesterday was cold, today was warm. How tight should the block be... cause when I went to just fit it, it was pretty tight? So I assume you are saying beat it on with no oil?
  17. So I have read about the gap before. At least reading it it says that it won't harm anything because the port in the gas block is bigger than the barrel. Fulton didn't say anything on their barrels, and it is a DPMS gas block. And I can't exactly remember, but I am pretty sure there were no dimples in the barrel for the gas block set screws to go into. So... I can move the gas block down a bit... but even still, that is "just in case" to protect the gas key right? I mean it isn't like it's covering the port and causing my rifle to be under gassed right? As far as the gas tube... well it's a bas tube and a block. Can you think of any reason it would be leaking. If I have to I will take it all apart.
  18. It is weak job of staking. But they are tight. I am using American Eagle ammo. So how long does it take for a gas block to seal up?
  19. So... the wife was pissed when I told her I was going back to the range... so not much time. :D I used some 10w-30 to coat every thing. Lubed it all up good. Got a FTF at the end of my first mag. Lubed everything again. Much nicer out, no wind. Ran another 60 rds... got about 3 FTF... squirted lube in the rings, dumped it all over the BCG, cycled it. So I will say obviously I did not have enough lube. It is still dripping now. However... there is still gas fouling coming out of the block on the tube. Fouling the barrel and FF tube. There is oil coming out of the front of the block... but I think that would happen if he used oil and it works it's way out. My barrel actually got warm today. Faster shooting and no wind. I asked a observer to keep an eye on my gas block, but he said he did not notice any gas coming out. No pics now... gotta do some honey dooos. ;D
  20. Cool. It is beautiful outside and no wind. Going to try to get to the range. It's brand new so I'm sure it will be a zoo.
  21. So I read that you need to run it wet breaking it in. I also read where you put grease and oil. So I oiled it up with Mil pro 7. I felt it was "wet", but I do not know exactly what that means. Fingers, good coat. Not exactly dripping. Oiled the rings through the hole with a couple drops and worked it. Grease on the rails, key, handle, back of bolt. I wiped off dirt, but felt there was enough grease left. With it so windy, I did not want to continue with everything blowing around. I did not think to oil as I shot even with the problems. I felt the rings had good oil, but after 60 rnds.... they were bone dry taking them out. It was so windy, I never could tell about leakage around the gas block. Can't say if that is normal... but I would also think that if there was tiny clearances... that those would get sealed up with time, instead of get worse as my shooting did. Maybe it contributed. Every one says use Moble 1 syn.... What weight?
  22. I had a GS install my barrel. I just didn't have the tools. I went to put my gas block on and it was pretty tight... so I just took it down and had him do it all so he could align it with the receiver. Well, it looked fine, but when I got home the block was really off... I mean like 10:00 off. I was pretty amazed... so I thought I must have bumped it... but I checked and the screws were tight... so then I went to straighten it out, and it took some rubber and hammer... it was tight. No way it just got "bumped". Well I was still dumb founded he could let it go out like that. I also noticed there is no space and the block butts up to the shoulder.... buy the bolt goes into battery just fine. So that is the history.
  23. I can pull mine back a good 1/4" 5/16" past the bolt catch.
  24. I also understand that buffer can cause problems... but my tube.spring/and buffer were lubed up good. I had no problem chambering a round with the charging handle. Charged just fine.... By the end of the day, I was not even chambering a round on the cycle. I had to chamber a round with the handle. At the beginning of the day, rounds would sometimes chamber, sometimes jam, sometimes not close. But I could always charge a round. To make sure... what is the compressed length of the spring/buffer? How far past the bolt catch can you guys pull your BCG back?
  25. This is what I have: Buffer http://www.762sass.com/product.php?p=5 Spring http://www.762sass.com/product.php?p=9 I had the wrong tube, but now have the proper 7 5/8" 6 position tube.
