That looks really interesting. Unfortunately, I'm going to be down for a while. Long story. I think I should be good by the end of May, but if not, I will have to wait till September. But I learned so much off the other course, I definitely want to do a "person to person" training. Does anyone have any experience with the Magpul videos? Are they worth getting?

Well it is a specific site about XDs.... but I certainly agree... you guys got a nice little slice of the web here. Great forum for sure.
-
Well nobody has to renounce their citizenship...but here you go. :) http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-s-discussion-room/ XD Talk has been around since they were HS2000s. It has become a pretty big site. The place for info on XD. Whole room for XDs They have an AR section too, but the only thing they knew about 308 was to send me here... they were spot on. :D

Oh ya, and I just put on a Springer extended slide lock. Plenty of "grip" and further forward which helps out this lefty. I do not think I would benefit from a match barrel at this point, but more practice and a few hundred more rounds down the barrel and I will be replacing it.

Go over to XD Talk and it is quite a problem. But of course it's the web and a few vocal problems does not mean the vast majority of silent owners have any. But SA has put out releases making it quite clear how to "properly" shoot the gun. So they are getting some flak over it. Does not mean I will not get one. I'm no expert, but I have to know for myself... most everyone else loves the thing.

I've had my service XD45 for about 5 years now. First thing I did was send it to Springer for a trigger job, clean up and polish. Put some TFOs on it and called it good. I SOOO love that gun. Fits like a glove. I recently broke it all the way down and cleaned it all up. It has held up great. I might not have mentioned... but I really love that gun.

I have been waiting for SA to put out a micro, but never thought about a 45. I have a service XD45 I love. I've pretty much made up my mind I will get one soon. So nobody is having any problem. some folks seem to, but it usually can be attributed to operator error.

One near me June 29th. I might have to do that. Looks cool. thanks.

OK... I don't know crap. I was not in the Army... I was in the Navy where I fired a 1911 once off the back of the boat. I was aiming for ocean.... perfect score. Recently, I took the NRA basic handgun course... but the people that taught it... well it's a 3 day course with lawyers, LOE and a full day at the range... WOW, I learned soooo much. My groups were reduced to a third... never knew I could shoot that good. Two fliers off perfect. Before, I just went to the range and shot bullets at paper. Can't wait to take their indoor and outdoor course coming up!!! So now I have my .308. Got it zeroed in. I can shoot from the bench at the range and hit steel at 1000yds with surplus. It's big steel... 2'x2' :) But obviously, I want to work on my groups. I could not tell you right now what my groups are. And I want to work on actually using a rifle. And yes now I understand there are some fundamentals and mechanics and it all matters. So where does a guy like me even start??? Burning through ammo punching holes in a big piece of paper is starting to get pretty expensive. :)

I realize this is an old thread, but for anyone reading this... this is not correct. It most certainly is a PSI thing. Volume is fixed. The gas acts on the action like a piston and cylinder. "X" amount of surface area of the piston, acted on by an energy with so many pounds per square inch, transfers "X" amount of energy to the bolt carrier and moves it. The only difference is the cylinder moves in this case and not the piston. It does that in the space needed for the carrier to move back far enough to cycle the bolt out of battery and free from the barrel and move it back past the gas tube/gas key which then allows all the pressure to exhaust out of the ports in the carrier and gas tube. Of course the bullet exiting the barrel helps. :) But the bolt and carrier have so much energy to cycle back, pick up a round, and slam into battery. The only thing stopping it is the spring when it fully compresses and bottoms out against your butt stock and then your shoulder. But springs do not supress energy, they store it... which is then returned in full to the bolt and cycles it back into battery. Now I'm no gun expert, but pressure changes caused by more or less powder will most certainly change all that. However, I do not know how much of a pressure change from the powder is needed to make a significant change in operation of the gas system and what that means to recoil, or not enough energy to cycle the action. But just going from 7.62 to .308 changes powder charge. Volume is fixed. It is the space from the bolt face, to the rear end of the bullet, when it passes the gas port, and high pressure gas pressurizes the gas tube all the way to the chamber formed by the carrier, bolt, and gas rings. That volume never changes. It will be constant no matter what you shoot. What does change is how much pressure is in that volume caused by how much powder was used in the particular load. Now all of that does not change the fact that if a rifle is over gassed, you will feel more recoil. You only need enough gas to fully compress the spring past the bolt catch. Any more than that, the spring will "bottom out" angainst your shoulder and you will absorb the remaining pressure that was unneeded. Once the spring is fully compresssed, the gas has nothing to do with it any more and it is the full spring pressure that returns the BCG back into battery. Not enough compression, not a proper cycle. So the spring has to be strong enough to pick up a cartridge and return the BCG to battery. The gas has to be enough to fully compress the spring. More gas than what is needed to compress the spring, will be felt as added recoil to the shooter. Not enough gas pressure to compress the spring, short cycle... no lock open, round not picked up, or bolt jams on the case.

So I'm looking for some general info on the gas syste, Lots of variations out there. I have a rifle length system with a non adjustable block. I just went with the standard with what I was doing which is long range. 1.) It seems most say the .308 is over gassed. Does turning it down lessen recoil? I don't know how good or bad mine it... usually start feeling it after about 100 rounds. 2.) I'm considering building a light weight carbine length upper... no time soon. But I do not understand the trade offs with different length gas systems and different length barrels. I only want a carbine length for wieght and mass for a short CQC set up without being real concerned with distance.

You will like the Tac Ops handle. I'm a lefty and love mine. Left or right though it's really nice.

Here you go. Had to get a new one with the glass. I'm not hurting, I know something will come through. I sold off my steel mags. I only want a few more. And I want some 10 round mags when they come out. I'm not too worried... I just hate being left out of Christmas. :)
-
When I ordered, .223 mags were limited to 5, but you could get 10 LR20 mags. they screwed my orders up and I had to reorder, but could only get 5. They never said they would only limit one order, only number of mags... but they asked folks not to take advantage of the offer. I assumed demand was high for .223 mags, but that the .308s were going to be a little easier. Well I reordered two orders of 5, but I have yet to see them, and my guess is that they will fill one order, and then the second one will be treated as extra. Who knows. The only problem is my stupid state actually put a ban on 20 rounders, and so far not too many others have. And at least we know the Feds are not going to. I have till 1st of July when the laws go into effect to get mine. I had a back order from Brownells since the 1st of December that I have not heard anything about either. I just assumed people were getting plenty because going by the "for sale" boards, there is no shortage of mags by a long shot.
-
That's really sad... you got yours before me. :-[
-
Nice,. Thanks guys. Sounds like they are moving. I have till July. I actually can't wait to pick up a couple of their 10 rounders when they are available..... before we are limited to 5. :(
-
Has anyone actually got any mags yet. I ordered mine, but then a few weeks later said my order had to be cancelled due to a software problem. I had to reorder and now it's been a coupel weeks with no word. E-mail these days is pointless. Anyone received theirs yet?
-
Thanks, that's really nice. But for $170, I could just buy the PRS. :) With the charging handle and what not, I have a few ideas, and I do not want it looking getto. Something removable. I do not need a lot... like 1/4"-1/2" tops. Magpul has a riser, but not for the ASC-L which is what I have. LaRue Tactical makes a nice one, but I have not got confirmation it will fit on a ASC-L... my guess no. All the riser stuff out there is made a for a MOE to fit in the slots that come on that stock.

So a few updates, there is always fouling out of the PRI block. I have checked and rechecked, and lock tighted the set screws and they are not loose. I don't really care if it is normal, and my rifle cycles fine. At this point I have about 500 rounds through it. I still lube it good, but now I just need to figure out how much is proper. Usually I will do 100 or so rounds and I will squirt some in the bolt. I finally put my scope on, a Vortex PST 6-24x50. I thought maybe it was "too much" scope... that was a silly thought. I love it. I mounted it with a Addmount base. That's nice. I just wanted to "buy once". Worried the 20 moa cant was maybe too much.. again, silly. It's perfect and I still zeroed at 100. All my stuff came loose and had to zero again, but now it is all tightened and lock tight and good to go. I don't want a PRS stock right now, but I am trying to figure out how to make a cheek piece riser. Toying with a few ideas. Duct taping foam isn't one of them. Overall really happy with it. I was hitting 500 yard steel no problem, and one day I was zeroing in on 1000 when I ran out of ammo. :)
-
I'm curious too, because I have nothing to compare it to. I have been working on "driving it right" on the bipod and being able to watch my shot, but ya, it's a hand full. But more than likely mine is "normal". I can shoot 100 rounds before I start feeling my shoulder, so that is nothing bad as far as I'm concerned.

Is it dumb to build multipe uppers for a single lower?
Powerman replied to EasyEJL's topic in General Discussion
I asked the same question. I do not see how having different uppers is a bad thing. I can understand how you just build another rifle, and it may become one. But right now, I just figure a carbine length light upper with a ACOG sight would be cool, and I can also go to a range and reach out and touch some steel. -
Sorry guys, these are sold.
-
$35 each. After that, I'll just leave them in the drawer.
-
How about we just make it a nice round $40 shipped for each?
