Thanks Dave! Same .308 I posted photos of when I joined here, only finally got around to replacing the Bushmaster upper/lower's with a nice billet set, and got my BoBro mount and Vortex in! They were the last OEM parts I had not changed out. Heading to the range on Monday to test her out. Plus the original Bushmaster ORC is back in it's original form since I kept all the parts and will probably sell it off.

haha! Loaded up 3 mags worth of subs and took them to the range with a buddy and his 2 kids, along with my suppressed M&P 15-22 and model422. What a BLAST! Steel targets out at 25, 45 and 50 yards (8" circles and one 2/3 IDPA torso) and all you can hear is the ping-ping-ping of the steel. Even had a guy shooting the lanes with us walk over and start asking all kinds of questions and I finally just handed him a half full mag and told him to knock himself out (guy was GOOD!). He had the same poop eating grin I had when he was done. Then the SERIOUS questions started... loads, bullets, lengths, parts on the rifle... I think he was a convert ;-) Next buy will be a picatinny rail section for my keymod rail so I can hook my gopro onto it and have more fun <thumbsup>

not sure. I have not assembled it back yet... going to wait for my new punches to arrive before I attempt it. But I'm curious if it's as tight going in as it was out.
-
I did... both ends, and three 1/16" punches (all now bent). There was a large enough open area under it so nothing was keeping it from coming out. I did find another QUALITY punch (seekins) in my kit this afternoon and worked it worked it worked it until I actually did get it to come loose. MAN was it tight! Looks like I ned to upgrade my punch set to better steel... good news is the bolt headspaced with no issues.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
SwissyJim replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Devil Dog Arms matched receiver set Fulton Arms lower parts kit (sans trigger.. alreadyhave Timney) 2k 147 M80 pulldowns (plinking...) plus a couple of 1/16" roll pin punches... :'( -
sorry to resurrect an old thread... but got a question for the guys that bought this BCG. (I did too) Did you headspace the bolt to your barrel? Reason I am asking is I finally got my new upper/lower set (Devil Dog Arms) to rebuild my .308 (going to replace all the stock Bushmaster parts and sell it) and I went to headspace it last night and in the process bent 2 roll pin punches (1/16") trying to remove the ejector. What really bugs me is that I bought the Manson gauges, that advertise a cutout so that you don't have to remove the ejector. Well, guess what...you do. The cutout is not big enough, both on the .223 and the .308 version. Anyways... anyone have an issue with the roll pin? It's not my first ejector removal, but damn it sure felt like it was! Not sure if my punches jut weren't up the the task of a quality component, but we'll find out soon. Bought a new set and just waiting for delivery. But curious if anyone has removed it, and if there were any issues? Is it just a really tight fit? I've had some that came out hard, but never have I bent a punch. I'll have to wait until I get the new punches so I have time to ask these dumb question... ::)

yes and yes. I tested a number of loads of A1680 and A5744, and have 2 that cycle the action, BHO on last round, and stay below supersonic speeds. loads are both with Hornady AMax 208gr, one with Accurate 1680 (Avg, 972fps) and the other A5744 (Avg,1014fps) 1680 is about 2/3" while the 5744 is 7/8" the range was super busy, and I had to shoot off a bench that was more pistol orientated... if I got to the rifle areas I'm sure I could tighten the groups up even more. The bench was so narrow I could not use anything but my shoulder with no support for my elbow for the stock. But all in all, these worked fine. I'm going to test some 220SMK's as well, but I like the 208's as I'm finding them to be more consistent between boxes than the SMK's for some reason.

got to the range and have my subs dialed in... 2 loads, so I can hopefully find the powder for one of them! The can is STUPID quiet!! I hear the buffer spring working more than I hear the gun go bang <thumbsup> Had a little issue with my adjustable gas block (SLR Rifleworks DA7) being gummed up and non-adjustable. Talked with the owner and he's sending me a newer, better version to replace it. Good service... now to start mass loading some subs to have fun with

welp... was hoping for a day at the range, getting some time in with the Specwar, but noooooooo - it HAD to blow the torrential rain sideways today! Oh well... maybe Thursday. in the meantime, I'll just drop this here: I have the front sight off so I can strap my Magnetospeed onto the rail - I hope to also get my subs dialed in on Thursday as well.. once I'm done (for now) with the load development, I have a longer handguard (same exact one, just longer) to hide more of the can and the light, front sight and vertical grip will all go
-
got my Vortex 4x16FFP today!!
-
Oooo me likey old Jeeps.... have had a '72 and a '74. Miss having them! My '72 had a Corvette LT1 350 mated to the Jeep 4speed and a Currie 9" rear end - that was a FUN off roader. Someday I shall get an old Willy's flat fender and do a ground up on it.

Nice fish! Just took my boat back down to Homer yesterday, land of Halibut and salmon. Finished up some projects on her (like removing 320# of water soaked floatation foam!) and got all the shrimp the family needs for the winter. Now it's time to focus on the fishies. Next weekend it starts!

AAaaaaand my Specwar762 was approved today!! Sadly I cannot make the drive to get it until Thursday. Photos forthcoming...

it is a nutroll, that's for sure. There is no reason it should be this troublesome. Hell, there's no reason to have to go thru this in the first place! Jut make them like everything else... form 4473 and call it good. Oh well... I hope he's right in that mine will be back in a couple of months. Me, I'm not that hopeful.BUt I plan on getting my 300blk subs dialed in, just in case

Magwa, all I did was scanned my Trust paperwork into a PDF file and there is an 'attachment' button on the page. My dealer has a copy of it on his system so he can do the same. Most people simply scan as an image and create a PDF that way, but I found out that Micro$oft Office imaging (or something like that) will do a good job of scanning via OCR. All I had to do was proofread it and re-create the formatting. That created a PDF that could be copied and pasted if needed, and for the signatures, I just added the images to the page. I keep the master, editable files on a flash drive in my safe. As far as the eFile being faster... I have no idea. Nether did my dealer. But, he says he's getting Trust items approved faster than individual. And efiles are much faster still. I guess I can attest to that being true - I filed three Form 4's and one Form 1 all at the same time - two Form 4's were mailed in, one was efiled. The Form 1 I efiled myself. All on the same day - my postmark for the mailing matches the date on the efiles. I have since gotten the efiled Form 4 and the Form 1 - both were right at 95 days. Plus a month after sending the first batch, I had another Form 4 efiled, and that is the one I just got... right at 150 days. And I'm still waiting for the mailed Form 4's. I think the difference between being able to efile or not, for me at least, was he had the one in stock, and the others were coming. He had already gotten the serial numbers of the ones coming, but they did not show up on the eForm site for him since they had not 'officially' been transferred to him. But, since he had the serials, it was possible to mail them in and due to the time it takes with the mail and such, he would have them in his possession and transferred to him by the time the ATF got to the form. In retrospect, I wish I had waited, and had them efiled once they arrived. But I was worried about the Trust law changes with the ATF and figured it would be better to have them started just in case. Oh well. But he did say that with the time frame we submitted my cans, he expects I may see them by July since they are on a Trust. Weird they would be faster than individual, but that's what he says he has been seeing.
-
Nope, I am doing the Trust route - Form1 is allowed by the user. I personally filed my own Form1 (SBR), but my dealer is doing my cans via eFile... altho only 2 of 4 are able to for some reason- something about if he had them in stock or had to be ordered I think. The other 2 were mailed, and they are the ones I would rather have! (Specwar762 and Osprey45) When I picked up my Element on Friday, he told me he was getting Trust applications back 2-3 months sooner than individual, either efile or mailed! He said that due to the time frame that I got my Specwar762 submitted, he suspects I could see it in 1.5-2 months from now! I think I better start working up my subsonic 300blk loads...
-
Gnat, I know nothing of the 'solvent trap' but would not be interested... not going the route of trying to be sneaky, cheaper or riskier - the whole reason I went the Trust route. No problem with those that do, but there is far too much in my life to risk it, or risk LOSING it. As far as the subsonic loads. that depends. With the same can (Spectre II), and same ammo (various supersonic), there is a noticeable different in the sound reduction between my different .22's. And it all boils down to barrels - my 2 pistols (Ruger SR22 and S&W 422) are STUPID quiet. But the same can and ammo on my rifles (S&W 15-22 and Ruger 10/22) is not nearly as quiet. The .22 in a short barrel (pistol) is basically a subsonic round- the barrel is not long enough to get it supersonic (or so I believe). But in the rifles, with thir longer barrels, the ammo DOES go supersonic hence you get the 'crack'. I have no sound measuring devices, other then my own ears, and they tell me this is true. But, it's still hearing safe with the rifles. It's just STUPID quiet on the pistols! I've tried subsonic .22 ammo and my pistols do not cycle with it, and the rifles only do 1/3 of the time. If I had a bolt action, that is certainly what I would use. Magwa, I'm just going by a post on Facebook by NFA Tracker- "A month later, and it seems that the downtrend is for real! Check it out here: http://nfatracker.com/TrendGraph.aspx We aren't quite back down to the 180 day pre-Newton transfer times, but it is getting there!" My 2nd can was another efile, only filed a month after my first BUT came 3 months longer than the first. But, on the NFA Tracker linked image, there is a noticeable down turn in approval times. Read somewhere the ATF added something like 14 new people to reduce backlog, working extended hours, yada yada. I read it on the Intertubes so it MUST be true, right? But, if the NFA Tracker info is right, there is something to it. And since it relies on the people that applied, then I think there is some merit to the info. I hope. I want my Specwar!!!
-
Aaaaand can #2 approved today! Sadly 'just' another .22lr one, but will help with not having to swap 1 can between 4 different .22's! I'm hoping the downtrend in times for paper approvals continues - I want my Specwar762 for my 300BLK sbr!!!!

We catch them in the bays around Prince William Sound (at 450+ feet deep), famous for the Exxon Valdez oil spill. We're anchored in the smaller bay, near the forest service cabin we rent, in the photo just prior to ripping their heads off. And yea... there was a BBQ grill with a pan our bubbling butter and garlic just ou of the photo <thumbsup> That's just WRONG!! :))
-
the boating season is upon me! woohoo!! Going to take a break from all the reloading, plinking and building I've been doing and want to do... time to stock up the family's freezer(s) for next winter!
-
I guess I should have said plated/jacketed. Just not cast boolits Stupid beer... >:D
-
Anyone have a good source for plinkers? cheap, plentiful, etc? I just got 2k of M80 pulls from Wideners at .20 each, but wonder if there is better? Not able to do casting myself, so looking for plated stuff. Need stuff for both the .308 and 300BLK
-
lord, I have YET to see any 1680 in person. My only saving thought is that my can is months away so no real need for subs until it gets here. MAYBE I'll be able to scrounge a pound or two by then.
-
yea, it looks good. But I tell ya, I learned a lesson (and read about it AFTER the fact - go figure). Get your lower engraved BEFORE applying for the SBR tax stamp. That way if something like my issues arises, you just get another lower engraved and use that one. Once the form is filed, like mine, you are stuck with that lower. I never thought about it but makes sense. Duh. I have a nice Umbrella Corp lower I may send in to get engraved, just in case. plus I had them do it under the trigger guard so if I do not do an SBR no one will ever see it. Robo... ebay special <thumbsup> Got a couple done - this one, one for my .308 that once opened, says 'reach out and touch someone' and another I will probably never use, but laughed when I saw it. As a fan of Team America, I had too... when opened,it says 'SURPRISE COCK FAGS!'

Oh I am. Well, starting too at least. Never reloaded, but now that I have Vera, I'm learning. Have a buddy who is a benchrest shooter teaching me part by part. Of course he's giving me crap for those 'inaccurate' semi's I like to play with. He's a 'not happy unless he gets 5 shots thru the same hole' kinda guy. But I've amassed 10# of H110, more than enough primers, some serious lead, and will have some made up this week when we complete the lessons. I just can't find any A1680 for the subs tho. But since my can is months away (positive thinking...) I have time to collect it.
