All mags were pmags. I removed the extractor and checked it. I didn't remove the ejector, but it depresses and springs back fine. BCG is an Ares Armory NIB not sure if it's M16 or AR 15. I really don't think anything is wrong with the upper. I still think it's the buffer/spring combo. Are you guys using Carbine buffers and springs for pistols?

That's what I'm hoping for. I PM'd him on Friday. Maybe he went on a romantic getaway over Valentine's..... :)

I crappy appreciate your reply :) Lol. In all seriousness I'm glad I won the give away, and happy I could review it for you. It doesn't matter that it ain't pretty, heck it's a great sling that will be perfect for hunting and will most likely get abused. So I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up! Thanks again

So I disassembled the pistol. Cleaned it real good and broke down the BCG. The extractor and ejector seem to be working, springs are working fine. The gas block doesn't appear to have moved any. I weighed the buffer and it's 2.95 oz with a carbine spring. Is that to light? The other lower I tried also has a carbine spring but the buffer is to heavy to way on my 100g scale. It has an h on the front. Is that an h buffer? Probably somewhere between 4-5 oz but that's just guessing. The BCG on that lower also checked out.

Ill pull out the BCG and take it apart. It's pretty much brand new only been used for maybe a box of ammo. It was lubed up, it has the NIB coating so I didn't get crazy with it. Also I should have mentioned in the last post that I took the upper off and tried it on a different lower ( carbine spring/ buffer) and had the same issue. So I'm not sure it's and ejector/extractor issue, but ill look that one over as well.

To preference this review, I have limited experience with slings. I own 3, one on my shotgun, one on my LR.308 and one on my AR pistol. So bear with me. :) I just finished playing around with the sling. First impression, not the nicest looking, but very functional and easy to use. I followed brother Beach's instructions on how to mount the sling and had no problems. The variations in length that are achievable with this sling are perfect for my needs. I found that I could cinch it up and wear it like a traditional sling would be used. Or I could loosen it up and sling it over my shoulder. Once I slung it over my shoulder though I soon realized that I would have to change where I had it attached on the stock because the rifle was trying to roll away from my body. I used a quick connect on the back side of the stock and this brought the rifle in tight to my body. I left it there because it will work for a traditional carry as well. Next I tried transitioning between wearing it in front, and wearing it on my back. The nylon webbing slides easily through the plastic buckle and the transitions were very fluid. I wore it up and down several flights of stairs in my house, wearing it both front and back. It was pretty comfortable and felt really secure. The sling lengthens enough that I put on my hunting backpack and went through the process again and at this point I was starting to like the sling. I tried to get it tangled up with my backpack which can happen with my current sling but I had a really hard time. I did manage to get it hung up ( on purpose ) which gave me a chance to try out the buckle. It worked fine, easily opening one handed and releasing the sling. Connecting it back together was also very easy, even with one hand. I don't have one of Jacob's earlier 2 point slings so I can't compare the two. In comparison to my Beachin Tactical one point sling. This one is more flexible and comfortable. It looks like Jacob stitched something inside the nylon webbing (paracord ?) and then covered it with paracord. Not sure what is in there, but like I said, it makes it very comfortable and flexible compared to braided paracord. There were a couple things that I would change, but these are all personal preference. First, I'm not a big fan of this type of nylon webbing. The webbing on my other sling is thicker and softer. Yes I said softer, which to me matters if I'm hiking miles in the mountains and it's rubbing somewhere. Last year I hunted in a T-shirt because it was 70. I wouldn't want that webbing rubbing my neck for long. To be fair though, I think this sling would stay on my shoulder, it's a good fit. Also, I would make a loop at the end of the webbing, or maybe add some paracord for grip. This webbing is pretty thin and I think if my hands were cold and wet, a loop would make loosening and tightening easier. Lastly, I like how my current sling has some elastic in it so when I have it cinched up and carrying it in front it has just enough stretch that I can bring it up off handed without loosening it, and it stays nice and snug for a shot. So, I would add about 8" of stretchy nylon webbing to the sling somewhere. All that being said, I do like this sling over my current one even without the changes. It is MUCH more comfortable overall, doesn't tangle and feels more secure. It is nice and flexible so it conforms nicely to what it is being cinched up against. It has a little give to it so when you have your 9+ lbs rifle with you it isn't jarring on your shoulder. And of course if your in a tight spot you can take the paracord off to use to help you out, and still have a fully functional sling. I think this is one heck of a sling! I told Brother Beach I would be happy to send it on for someone else to review after I did mine, but now I don't want to let it go. You know where to get one, get your own!

Well I finally got to run out to the range for a little while. I loaded up 3 factory 187's from Gemtech in a 10rd pmag. It functioned fine and the bolt locked back after the last shot. Well that was the highlight of the shoot. After that for some reason the gun became a single shot. It would get jammed up with the fired brass half ejected and the next round trying to chamber. I thought maybe the new 10 rounder might be affecting something so I tried a few other mags, same thing. I then tried some supersonic handloads. 125's, 150's and 155's. Same thing... To me it seems like the bolt is moving to fast for the process, not going back far enough to allow time for the process, or both. PSA Carbine spring and buffer. What do you guys think?

^^^^^ LOL

That Kukri looks fantastic! I've been wanting one for around camp for awhile. Never seen any like that!

I made up 100 over the weekend. Some 125's, 150 and 155's, all with 4227 and PMC Brass. I referenced a lot of info from here, especially 98's brass making process and pet load for 150's Just thinking I should check them. I feel pretty good about them, but it's a good drive to the range and if they didn't work it would definitely ruin the day. I have a swagger on the way so that I can convert all the LC brass I have. I really enjoyed reloading for this caliber, especially throwing charges with 4227, they were coming out spot on. It meters so nice. Especially when your used to using 4064 :) I've got a couple of boxes of Gemtech 187 subs, and I'll buy at least one box of factory subsonics to function test with both.

Thanks Hemi Have you ran any handloads or just factory ammo?
-
I had a similar thought. :) Yeah, 98 just curious. I don't anything about AK's. Not much about ARs either, but that's why I'm here.

HEADSPACE GAUGE Just realized that I wrote " chamber gauge" in the post title. Sorry for the confusion. I want a gauge to make sure my handloads will fit in the chamber. I have one for my .308. Something like this..... http://www.midwayusa.com/product/714043/le-wilson-case-length-headspace-gage-300-aac-blackout Those Sheridan gauges should do the trick.

Those are some fun looking guns. What's the details on the AK?
-
Yep, that's what I'm referring to. I'll take a look at those. Thanks

Welcome from Colorado!

150's with 41.5 look good. Was that your first group of the day? After that things open up a little.

Which one do you use, and how do you like it?

These are the best pictures I can do with the technology that I have. I don't think it is the same powder in the picture 98 posted ( 1680 ) the granules are either ball shaped in which there are small, medium and large. Then there are granules that are potato shaped about the size of the large balls. Lastly there are granules that are hot dog shaped which you can see in the last picture. -
Looks like a lot of fun! Good looking brown if for the rivers around here. Is that a decent size for the lakes?
-
Don't complicate sh$t with complicated sh$t. Just go have some fun shooting.

Some have taken more than one shot and I had a large horse fly that wouldn't go down. But for the most part it's been pretty good. I'm thinking about trying some sea salt in it this spring.

I was joking around with my wife about these, and she surprised me with one for my birthday "from the kids". It blasts spiders and flies pretty good.

Pretty interesting that they have their own head stamp. Does that mean they make their brass or just buy it and have it stamped,.
