  1. I'm thinking that Tacticat has lots of relatives. Sure does seem to be a lot of racial diversity.
  2. I got this holster from D.M. Bullard for a Browning 1911 22. The fit is close, snug and comfortable.
  3. Do you see that as alternative to crush washer/shims?
  4. I've never seen a requirement that government acquisition policy has to make sense.
  5. Absolutely true. But it's also good to know if your Association will sell you out to nervous chain restaurants. I'm still on the fence on this.
  6. For he that has, to him shall be given: and he that has not, from him shall be taken even that which he has. http://biblehub.com/mark/4-25.htm That means, 'If you lose track of your ammo, we're coming for your guns.'
  7. Sorry... I want him to have a bit of success in holding the brake in position. Having options is good.
  8. That's a valid concern, and I went into the process of buying and shooting it with the expectation that it would increase recoil. In the world of physics, and action/reaction, nothing is free. Even so, I didn't notice any increase in recoil with the Kaw Valley unit. In fact, it worked so well that I sold my because the Kaw Valley unit worked so well. The reason for that is that I want to use the rifle for hunting with naked ears. If my whole point was to kill recoil, the JP brake would be my go-to muzzle accessory.
  9. I have to wonder if you guys would recommend that Cali_Ed use a version of Loctite for holding the clock on the muzzle brake.
  10. Police: Man allowed to carry assault rifle along Lafayette roadway - WTHITV - June 4, 2014 http://wthitv.com/2014/06/04/police-man-allowed-to-carry-assault-rifle-along-lafayette-roadway/ excerpts: An Indiana man who is protesting losing his driver’s license is now walking around town carrying an assault rifle. He said he’s walking in protest after losing his driver’s license in April after he refused to pay a fine for several infractions including failing to signal and possession of multiple licenses. Lafayette police say as long as he doesn’t point his rifle or threaten anyone, he is within his rights to carry a gun.
  11. Melbourne police lose assault rifle - WTXL TV - June 5, 2014 http://www.wtxl.com/ap/national/melbourne-police-lose-assault-rifle/article_fab53ccc-0b88-5366-88e2-456194330e2e.html excerpt: The Melbourne Police Department can't find an assault rifle given to it through a federal government program, meaning it won't receive an armored assault vehicle.
  12. If you're worried about muzzle blast, you should consider a Kaw Valley Linear Compensator. It works by sending the blast downrange, away from shooters and bystanders -- I've found their claims to be true. I don't know what this does for flash suppression. I don't notice flash during the daytime, whereas I have seen daylight flash with a muzzle brake. I haven't shot my .308 at night. I should probably do that thing, for SHTF planning purposes. P.S. I have a 16" barrel on a DPMS LR-308T.
  13. Here's a new theory... a government official thought this one up. Bergdahl walked away from his unit because they were a bunch of psychopaths.
  14. Beachmaster, Actually I think we're mainly in agreement. Basically, the NRA was anti-open-carry to appease the restaurants until they got a pushback from Open Carry Texas. Some people -- including liberal leftist progressives -- claim that the NRA is actually more interested in representing firearm and ammo manufacturers than their 'consumer' membership. I don't know how true that is. Either way, I wonder if anyone has a sense of whether Gun Owners of America is more consistent about where they stand on things. I haven't joined a group yet and would like to know who is "honest enough to stay bought".
  15. Washers from a hardware store will work -- but there's the issue of outside diameter being larger than the barrel/brake, and it's good to have a variety of thicknesses, which you wouldn't get at the store. I'd recommend something like this: PRIMARY WEAPONS - .308 MUZZLE DEVICE ALIGNMENT SHIMS $4.99 http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/muzzle-brakes/ar-15-m16-ar-style-308-muzzle-device-alignment-shims-prod38890.aspx "Small shims used with large and medium shims provide smaller degrees of rotation for finely-tuned, critical alignment."
  16. Shibiwan, Seems like the Obama team is trying to sell this as, "We're closing Gitmo, so they gotta go somewhere, so why not get one of ours back in the process" and "we don't leave any of ours behind unless they're in Benghazi". Maybe the dots don't connect because it's all a stupid idea that backfired.
  17. Cali, those four holes go on top. To make that happen, torque the snot out of it for 1/2 turn. There's another thread over here on how to hold things still whilst torquing. Even so, I like shibiwan's idea of multiple thin washers better.
  18. Robo, I respect your position on this for a number of reasons, and I share your sentiments about the whole situation. I can see what would happen to me if I stopped an active shooter. The jury would let me go, if the DA didn't decline charges before the jury got anywhere near the case. Hopefully. But, what if I were busted on a school weapons rap, with no active shooters around? The DA would make it look like "people like me" are the reason why schools are "gun-free zones". And after they found guns in my house, they'd probably confiscate the guns. The local newspaper would carry a story about "suspected right-wing gun rights connections" and "an arsenal". They might notice that I'm a white person. So the next news story would be, "White Supremacist Racist Busted While Smuggling Gun Into School Zone". And so forth. Gosh and by golly, it's nearly like the liberal leftist progressives have made me fearful. And that's what they want.
  19. For me, "I don't need it today" happens all the time. My stepdaughter and her husband both work, and both of their kids are in elementary school. They get dropped off at my house in the early a.m., and I take them to school. At the end of the day, I pick them both up. Even with a CC permit, I can't carry on or within 1,000 feet of school grounds. Leaving the pistol under the car seat is just as illegal as carrying, when dropping off or picking up the kids. Dammm, talk about a 'target-rich environment', and there's nothing I can do. So weekdays, generally, are days "I don't need it today" unless I'm also going somewhere else. A link for background on this: http://thegazette.com/2013/01/04/iowa-gun-advocates-want-to-abolish-gun-free-zones-including-in-schools/
  20. The crime of treason is in the US defined in the Constitution. See also here. If Bergdahl is guilty of treason by cooperating with hostile forces, isn't Obama guilty of the same thing?
  21. Looks like Beachmaster called this one. NRA apologizes to pro-gun extremists for calling them “scary” and “weird” - Salon - June 4, 2014 http://www.salon.com/2014/06/04/nra_apologizes_to_pro_gun_extremists_for_calling_them_%E2%80%9Cscary%E2%80%9D_and_%E2%80%9Cweird%E2%80%9D/ [excerpt] Well, that didn’t take long. After momentarily flashing some measure of sanity and independence by asking open-carry activists not to congregate at Chipotle and other fast food restaurants, the NRA has apologized for saying that walking around in public with an assault rifle slung over your shoulder is, to many people, “scary” and “weird.” Appearing on NRA radio, Chris Cox, NRA spokesman, described the whole incident as “a distraction” and a “mistake.” “There was some confusion,” Cox explained, “we apologize, again, for any confusion that that post caused.” Cox went on to say that the initial statement ”shouldn’t have happened” and described it as the “personal opinion” of its author. Edit: Here's a more normal news account of this situation: NRA Apologizes: Texas Gun Protests Not ‘Weird’ - Wall Street Journal - June 3, 2014 http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2014/06/03/nra-apologizes-texas-gun-protests-not-weird/
  22. Matt, I'm sorry, I'll edit the post, just tell me where I blew it and I'll fix it.
  23. I have a K-Bar with serrations at the hilt, and when they go dull, it's a real PITA to sharpen them up. You don't want to discover those serrations are bad when you're field-dressing a deer.
  24. This whole thing is happening in an information vacuum. Why is a guy who abandoned his post and "went native" worth five from the top terrorist leadership? Someone, somewhere, figured this was a fair deal. Now, one of ours for five of theirs seems basically not too bad. But one (perhaps) traitor for five scum? Explanations for the value behind the deal are not there.
