  1. What does Hodnett, other precision shooting schools, or USMC Sniper program teach about support hand position on the buttstock? Do they recommend using rear support bags to squeeze and change elevation? Do they recommend stocks with hook grips like a PRS, bolt action McMillan/Manner/Bell&Carlson - or, do they prefer A2 type angled/tapered stocks? I ask since i'm always trying to find the best hand position with a good solid hold that doesn't fatigue my support hand when prone or at the bench for extended periods of time. Thanks!
  2. Cool, thanks!
  3. Thisisdon - if that's yours, you suck, unless you let me play with it ;-) Seriously though, looks awesome! Enjoy! Here's another new company making 'em in 338 Lapua: http://sword-int.com/weapon-systems/small-arms/mk-18-mod-0/
  4. Great info! Thanks all.
  5. So they teach not to wrap their hand around the grip?
  6. As Gray05 wrote: "Pull through that first stage while the planets align and just break that icicle when your sight picture is right. A single stage would either have no travel and break at the slightest touch or have a very smooth travel." So, isn't the key here to minimize movement in the firing process as much as possible, keep those crosshairs still, watch your breath, heart-rate, etc? If so, then we'd want as little finger movement and as little muscle contraction as possible, no? 2 stage - you are slightly remaining in a active muscular contraction all the way through the first stage until the trigger breaks at the 2nd. For precision work, that becomes more motion to control when trying to stay on target. Single - you'd need to move your whole finger from the straight position, onto the trigger, then only press ever so slightly. Now, there would be movement, but less contraction. (I know, you'd better have a real good safety if you're using a hairpin single stage for precision work!) I guess they both have their benefits and draw-backs, and of course it will always come back down to whatever a person shoots best with (given all other factors are even) -obviously, I'm just thinking online / rambling... DRD
  7. Grey, I hear you. Microgunner - why & which ones? I've been leaning towards the SSA-E or DMR, but had been reading a lot about some of these fine tuned single stage triggers as an alternative.
  8. For primarily longer range precision shooting, mostly from prone, bench and sitting, which would you recommend on a 308AR, and why? Thanks, DRD
  9. hdbiker1 - sounds like bad luck, I hope. Many reports of good results with BHW. Perhaps you just got their occasional bad batch. Were both barrels from the same blank lot?
  10. Great deal!
  11. Try Black Hole Weaponry (they make Rainier's "Select" barrels. I believe if you send them your bolt they can headspace it, or just have it done afterwards like survivalshop said.
  12. A 600 yard comparison would still be great, though!
  13. If the Luth-AR can take some punishment and holds it's settings, it could be a winner, even if a little homely. I wouldn't use the airsoft one in a .308, however!
  14. Now thoroughly confused.... ;-) Forgive me if this seem rudimentary: Just trying to understand since i don't have experience with all these difference muzzle devices. I was under the impression that brakes decrease recoil, compensators decrease muzzle flip, flash hiders do just that, and suppressors decrease sound. Which of the aforementioned do these "gas re-directors" do well exactly? Thanks, DRD
  15. MikedaddyH, Is that a 300 Winchester magnum AR or am I misinterpreting "300WSM"?
  16. Does that one increase felt recoil? Doesn't seem like it can direct gasses forward, and change the recoil, no?
  17. I believe GA Precision also often uses that twist in Bartlein barrels for their builds. They are one of the top custom rifle shops. http://precisionrifleblog.com/2014/01/02/best-rifle-barrel/ eg: http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2014-custom-rifles/ga-precision-the-crusader.html
  18. What reticle is that?
  19. Wow...reduce recoil and redirect sound...why does this seem too good to be true? Just curious, cause if it works, why isn't every on this fanboys-on-tacticool?
  20. Yes, I see what you are saying. Again, from what I've heard, PFI is well made. The others are, well let's say, at the "high end" of Chinese production - which may or may not say much. So, if this is a target/bench rig (which it sounds like it is) might not be a problem as long as you keep you load recoil at the minimum. If you're gonna trek around, hunt or get a little rougher, I'd lean towards the PFI. My $.02
  21. These are two different sighting systems since the PA is Miliradian based and the PFI uses their own proprietary caliber-based BDC-like system. PFI quality is purported to be very good - not sure about that model in particular, though. The PA model you listed for $230 is the same exact scope as Falcon Menace for $350. http://swfa.com/Falcon-Menace-4-14x44-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P47408.aspx It's also the same exact model as this BSA for $250: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/456482/bsa-tactical-mil-mil-rifle-scope-30mm-tube-4-14x-44mm-side-focus-1-10-mil-adjustments-first-focal-mrad-reticle-matte They are all the same scope, made by the same Chinese factory with a different label put on them. I found the BSA model on dhgate.com for $159 shipped. I put it on my ,22lr. I don't know if I'd put it in anything with substantial recoil. So, if your AR is going to be a bench gun with hefty brake, maybe. Otherwise, if you need this kind of magnified optic, you might want to check out the PFI. One thing to note, is that I'm pretty surprised by the clarity and quality of the BSA so far. It seems a large step apart from the usual Chinese-made suspects. Eye relief is still not very forgiving though. I hope that helps, DRD
  22. I think I might just go .308, and get a bolt gun in 6.5CM instead.
  23. Good to know, thanks
  24. Yeah, Im pretty torn.,,
