14.5 bbl 308 build
beachmaster replied to flyingbfarm's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
That is a good read. Depending on what you want, if the object is simply weight, the GII ap4 might be worth considering. Its 7.25 lbs! The recon is 8.5, which isn't really that light, but im going to see if I can bring that down a bit by simply replacing the handguard. A GII ap4 with a ff forend and 14.5 inch barrel would be pretty cool! You might be able to get the weight down to 7lbs flat! The midwest industries ss gen 2 rail in 7" I believe weights just over 7oz, which is the same weight I believe as the plastic glacier guards. -

Since the upper is not serialized, if not attached to the lower, it could technically be used on a pistol. -

I personally highly recommend the GII ;-) I will get a review up soon. Although I havne't put enough rounds through it to have alot of credibility, I can say it has never hickuped, and it is light. -
Welcome from S. Ky! If your in the area and want to do some shooting send me a pm :-)

Your a life saver! Thanks!

Somehow I finally thought I had everything for my 22 build and i am missing a trigger and hammer pin! Since I have a two stage trigger I am putting in, and the hogue grip, I ordered a lower parts kit without trigger assembly, and the two stage trigger didn't come with pins, so here I am. If anyone has any lying around, I would love to buy them off you! Thanks!

I have an acs lying around that i am not to fond of. I broke and repaired it. Im running Moe right now and i am pretty happy. But i really want to find a rifle with the ace stock. My buddy has one and likes it. But for now I will hold what I have got :-) thanks for the input!

Haha, I hope the guy who bought it from me doesn't get the ghost effect! I really hope I sold him that gun at %100, and I think I did. Hopefully I dont have any more questionable firearm experience, my wife wouldn't appreciate me as much as a ghost ;-)

Make sure to fill us in! My rifle has the mbus sights right now, and admittedly, I am very surprised. The mbus pros can only be better right! I look forward to your range report.

Right now brownells has the pmags in stock for 17

Well, I got the chance to take the rifle out yesterday. It is recommended that you clean the bore after every shot for 25 rounds, then every 25 rounds for a hundred rounds. I punched the bore every round for the first twenty, then I really cleaned the bore after the next twenty, and i will continue to clean the bore every 20 rounds for the next 80. All cases ejected at about the 0330 position. If I did my part, im pretty sure I could have put a 5 gallon bucket out and collected brass that way :-) Speaking of brass, its time for me to start reloading! This tax return thats the direction I will be going in. I had no failures of any sort. I am starting to see wear on the buffer tube and in some other places, but its WAY to early to tell if it is premature wear or normal wear. I was surprised at how clean the rifle was after (only) 40 rounds. My issue m4 ran much, much dirtier. The first 20 rounds I fired were Winchester white box, the next were zq1 from Turkey. The brass showed little to no damage after being spent. I shot at 25 and 100 yards. It was 61 degrees, with wind gusts between 5 and 10mph. I shot off a bench, with a front support. (A wool blanket bunched up) I only used iron sights. My groups sucked. It wasnt the rifles fault. So far I am very happy. There are a couple of small issues I have, and i will post pictures tomorrow. One of those issues is the bolt release does not fit into the depression in the upper receiver, so it has marred the finish all up. Does it matter? Not really, but i find it to be irritating. More to follow soon

What unit were you in when you earned the presidents 100, and where were you stationed? Mos?

My bad, I mis understood you

That is great to see and hear! The more competition in the market the better. It seems to me like with alot of ar15/ ar308 / 1911 parts, each company buys the same parts, might put their own final touch on it, and sells it as their own. It really kills the market.
-
There are alot of things I love about my Ar308, and very few things i HATE. One thing I HATE is the dpms bolt catch. So I sent seekins a message asking them to make their bolt catch in a 308 pattern. Anyways, I was hoping a couple of people might join me in shooting them a message to pick up some 308 products. Maybe if enough of us contact them they will listen!

Thats what I like to hear! Its too late to have an sr762 in my future, but I sure would like to recommend it!

I had to pull the bolt out again thinking you were wrong, but I believe you are correct. Everything is machined, and the top of the gas key has a hole drilled through it, in which they pressed in a tube that was blocked on one end (the back that I showed in the last picture) and they staked it in place. Seems like a really strong set up to me.
-
Good questions. No, its definitely one piece, but there is a plug in the back of the gas key, and I believe that is what that pin is for. Im sure being a one piece deal has forced them to get creative with the machining. :-)

The carrier is monolithic, so the gas key is an integral part of the bcg. The steel feed ramps look to be pinned. I could be very wrong.

Here you can see the gii multi caliber lower. Dpms said although it is multi caliber, they do not have a 22 upper for it. If you look closely you will notice the damage on the buffer tube. You might also be able to see the green hammer spring (jp?). I am new to nice triggers, but to me, the hammer profile is very odd. But the trigger is quite nice. It just needs some smoothing out from trigger time Notice the Odd lug geometry, the monolithic bcg, and the duel ejectors. I wonder if the monolithic bcg will catch on in the ar15 world… Here you can see the Steel feed ramp insert. I am not engineer, but I would think this might be a good idea for polishing, and making it possible to replace the feed ramps to possibly lengthen the life of the upper. Or maybe it is just marketing for dopes like me In case you haven’t seen a comparison between the DPMS 19 rnd magazine, and the Magpul gen 3 20 rnd p mag, here it is. I am actually quite fond of the dpms profile and size. Lets talk about this sling… DPMS stole it from an airsoft manufacture in china…. Seriously, it is that chinsy. Goofy Secondly, does anyone know why the DPMS buffer has the moving weights in it? That drives me crazy! I can hear it when the firearm is assembled! It has g2g. Sorry for the poor photography. If you want to see something specific, just ask. I will post a review in the DPMS section when I get some rounds down range, and I will post a vid on youtube when I get a good bit more rounds down range. Just now Reply

Yeah, thats the new pea shooter :-) I have high expectations from dpms... in that I expect they built this rifle better than the last guy did LOL I sold the last one for 1400, and I picked this up for 1375 otd. If you want to find a dude who will treat you right, check out dotson firearms on facebook. He is who I went through. I had to drive 2 hours to get to his house, but he will ship anywhere for $25 :-)
