PSA is getting into the game.
warthog984 replied to AdamO's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
I wonder if their price point will be below Aero Precision. It is nice to see so many manufactures getting into 308. -
I was a crew chief on the A10 when I was in the Air Force. I used to loved operating the hydraulics to cycle the gun. Here is a picture of the 30mm round next to a 308 and 223.

Are APF (Alex pro firearms) 308 bcg GtG?
warthog984 replied to Cali_Ed's topic in General Discussion
I guess rule 65b holds true. -
I dont know about Hogan, but I have found it always best to call the manufacture and ask comparability for any AR 308. I just did my first 308 build after building many AR15s and had some issues. The guys on this site were great at helping me pin point the problem.

Your a good man.

Who gave you a receiver set as a wedding present? Was it your in-laws? Pretty cool. I asked for a gun for a graduation present and my mom looked at me like I was crazy.

Thats my baby!

Possibly....I have one build that I used a Palmetto State 1-8 twist barrel. It really likes the 115gr. I do shoot the sub-sonics, but I have more of those on hand than the 115gr.
-
Where did you get the Reminton UMC 300 Blackout. I haven't seen that in years. Is that he 115Gr?

A2 is longer than carbine buffer tube. Looks like the picture you have above is a carbine tube for that stock. The reason I say this is because there is a castle nut and retainer. A2 buffer tubes do not use castle nuts and retainer plates. I guess that it was already determined in the above posts that it is in fact a carbine buffer.

Did anyone end up using Alex Pro Firearms (APF) BCG? Midway has them on cleareance. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/285430/apf-armory-bolt-carrier-assembly-lr-308-308-winchester-nickel-boron?cm_vc=ProductFinding -
So....I just got my second DPMS bolt carrier group today from Midway USA. The first one I got had a bad ejector and the roll pin for the ejector was really beat up. This was causing my issues with getting round to chamber. I called Midway and they sent me a new BCG. I have yet to send the old one back because I replaced the ejector and roll pin and I know it works. I was thinking of keeping the second BCG, but I a was a little concerned when I saw how sloppy the bolt fits in the carrier. It feels like the gas rings are making good contact, but the forward face of the bolt is moving around. I have never had a bolt this sloppy in any of my AR15s. Also, the firing pin retainer was really loose. No big deal except someone ground the tip of the retaining pin and it looks like poop. I have always steered clear of DPMS. Not a big fan of Freedom Group. I felt this may have been my best option for my build. Does anyone else notice QC issues from DPMS parts? I will have this BCG exchanged for a new one, but I am hoping the new one is fine. Any other brands that I should be looking at for DPMS pattern? My understanding is that Fulton Armory is a re-branded DPMS.

Aero Precision M5 upper and lower... .308 receivers
warthog984 replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Here is what I got for measurements: Aero Pins Takedown Full length 1.1655; Below the lip down 1.0520 Pivot Pin Full length 1.7130; Below the lip down 1.5860 DPMS Pins Takedown Full length 1.201; Below the lip down 1.082 Pivot Pin Full length 1.64; Below the lip down 1.510 I purchased both the DPMS and Aero Pins. I ended up using the DPMS takedown pin and Aero pivot pin. The Aero takedown pin is to short. It sits just flush with the receiver. Don't ask my why they did that. My opinion is that they should have a note on when you purchase the receiver sets about the different length pivot pin. It is mentioned under their 308 lower parts kit that the pivot pin would be to long in a DPMS receiver. They also don't mention on their site that the lower comes with the bolt catch screw. The Forward assist comes with a screw rather than roll pin too. Did not mention that on the site when I purchased it. The only screw not provided was the 4-40 screw for the takedown detent. -

I was able to get the old roll pin out last night and change the ejector. I took the gun out today and it ran great. Fired suppressed and without. The SLR Rifleworks adjustable gas block is awesome. PMAGs and DPMS 19rnds mags worked good. The ASC mags had issues. All and all I am a happy camper. Here is what I used in my build: Aero Precision Upper and Lower M5 308 Mega Arms Barrel 16” MI 12” Keymod Handguard Noveske Keymod Handguard Covers AAC Brake Out SLR Rifleworks Sentry 7 Stainless Adjustable Gas Block BCM Midlenth Gas Tube DPMS BCG DPMS Carbine Buffer DPMS Carbine Buffer Spring DPMS 308 Bolt Catch Rainier Raptor Charging Handle Geissele SSA-E Trigger Simplistic Shooting Solutions Gas Vent (Replace F/A) Armalite AR10A Magazine Catch and Spring Seekins Magazine Button Magpul UBR Stock BCM Grip Magpul MBUS Aero Precision 308 Pivot Pin---Longer that standard DPMS pin DPMS 308 Takedown Pin Armalite Safety Selector Misc. Lower Parts Springs and Pins ( I believe I used CMMG) ADM Recon 1” Optics Mount Nikon Monarch 3-9x40 The Mega barrel performed well. Looked to be under MOA with Federal Match 168 SMK, but I did not go down to the target and measure. I was more focused on function at this point. PMC 147 was not that good. I also shot AE 150gr. It did pretty well. Prvi 168gr looked good too. -

AdamO.....Did you know the front take down pin is different for the Aero upper and lower combo. It is longer than the standard DPMS. I suggest you get that from Aero. -

Just curious why you think you need the F/A? I have used mine only a couple of times. Usually on a new upper that I did not had cycle and lube well. I guess I can see the reason if it is installed why not have it function. -

Thanks everyone for all of your posts! I could not believe how much feedback I received. The people on this site are great. I will let everyone know how the gun operates when I get my new BCG. -
