  1. Thanks. It's of theoretical interest for now.
  2. What do you use if all tungsten is too heavy? Mix tungsten and steel?
  3. Up to 12,000 rounds per minute the article says. Considering how compact the minigun is, the 556 version must be even moreso.
  4. Winter visitor?
  5. What kind of borescope?
  6. Just sold my PSL. I'd rather have an AR type.
  7. All gone. At least for now.
  8. Probably gas block off a bit. But, there can be a very slight rotational play in some barrels in the upper receiver. You might tell Windham and let their warranty work for you.
  9. I'm guessing it's the SRC model. That's what I was trying to confirm. Is this your model wetncold?
  10. What model of the rifle is being discussed now?
  11. Well, after being corrected in my thinking by a few nice pm's re: asking about unreviewed items I decided to ask my lgs to order a Windham Weaponry 308 of this persuasion: http://www.windhamweaponry.com/pdf/NewTechSeets/SRC%20R16SFST-308%20MSRP%20PRICING.pdf After the distributor sent the wrong item and it was returned and the proper rifle was sent and money changed hands I had a 16" WW 308 to look at. The factory reports a rifle weight of 8 pounds. This one weighs 7 lb 10 oz. (No mag, sights or sling). Empty magpul pmag weighs 5.8 oz. The protecter that fits on the top of the mag weighs 0.4 oz. The simple carry strap/sling weighs 2 oz. The purchased Magpul mbus rear sight weighs1.3 oz and the front sight weighs 1.2 oz. The carbine style sliding buttstock weighs 7.0 oz. Charging handle by vernier measurement is 8.048" long and weighs 1.3 oz. The bolt carrier group weighs 1 lb 2 oz and is 8 and 7/16" long with the bolt in the rearward 'locked' position. The front portion of the bolt carrier is not round but seems to be from a piece of steel about 1.182" in diameter and the smaller diameter rear portion is 0.930" diameter. The firing pin is 3.940" long and has several steps. At the tip it is 0.077" diameter, then is 0.103" diameter then is 0.154" diameter. It weighs 0.4 oz. The bolt weighs 2.8 oz and is about 0.889" diameter at the lugs and the body has slight steps but is 0.661 " mostly. The bolt carrier has the letters JC stamped on the left side of the front portion of the carrier. The carrier is 7.87" long and weighs 14.4 oz (with key installed). Trigger pull is over 7 pounds. The lowest I measured was 7 pounds, highest was 7 lbs 8 oz and most pulls were about 7 lbs 6 oz. That obviously will need to be improved. It's not been shot yet--except at factory. It will have sights and scope added and then I'll try to get some accuracy information to post. The fit and finish are really very good. The charging handle operates smoothly. The recoil spring is stout, as expected. The rifle is well balanced in my opinion and, with the 16" barrel is quite handy. Ideally, at least to me, a 308 AR would weigh 5 pounds for carry and 10 pounds for shooting. But this looks like a very good compromise. At some point in the distant future I'll post a picture (if I ever learn how). As an old fogey I'm doing pretty good just to write this stuff. Added: It was shipped to the dealer from the distributor in a large box--it looks like two rifles were shipped by the factory in that outer box. The inner cardboard box contained a plastic gun box with foam and the accessories- sling, magazine, papers.
  12. Funny ,but that's what i thought until I was taking a class with a LEO formerly Marine who told me they shot Bushmasters in the service. I told him I didn't know or think that Bushmaster sold any to the military but he said they had this "snake" on the side, pointing to a Bushmaster lower.
  13. Big difference in weight. Depends on what you want it for. I looked at a Windham SCR recently and it wasn't the model Windham I wanted but it was very well done. Cosmetics were good, fit was very good. I'd also look at the DPMS G2's of whatever persuasion appealed to you. Also, you might wait for/look for the DPMS G2 compact Hunter-- Reportedly under 7 pounds! (if you want a light rifle).
  14. Good book, good movie.

  16. 392heminut, I'm glad it worked out for your family. Sounds like a memorable trip!
  17. I wonder who makes it. I can just see another box of parts in the future in the garage.
  18. Anybody ever hear what the gas tube length is?
  19. Interesting. But they're kind of cheating. They're using sights. And they're not holding their pistols over their heads and sneering.
  20. Since I am just getting into the 308AR world I can say that it's sometimes not easy to separate the wheat from the chaff.
  21. Go to Youtube and search for either G2 or James Yeager. There are 4 videos right now and likely something more to come.
  22. I called Windham and they can't currently get a part they need for the model I was interested in. Dang! May have to look at something else.
  23. Hello, I'm an old guy who has had AR's in 5.56 for over 45 years and did my first build about 35-40 years ago but am just now getting interested in the 308 variety. Looks like a very nice forum here. Thanks for having it available.
  24. Uh oh. Sounds like an 'Oops!'.
  25. Anything new with respect to Windham 308 reviews?
