  1. These lowers are from Vision Armory AR15 Parts. I have a Bushmaster upper for my brown build & a gun kit upper I bought from Daytona Tactical for my son's first black gun build. It is the same problem with BOTH lowers & their uppers having the gap. I will get the feeler gauges out shortly to measure the exact amount of gap. Just putting the pins in & holding them up to the light looks like close to 60 thou gap between them. Ray.
  2. Guys, go back & read post 10 on the first page. I am referring to the 223 lowers I bought & am building right now. I have the jig for it but have not machined my 308 yet. I want to wait till I have the upper for the 308 so I can test fit it while I am at the mill with the lower. The gap I am seeing in the 223 lowers I haven't measured but looks to be about 60 thou. Tom, Call me at 714--356-784five & I will send you the pic I took if your phone will get pictures. Thanks guys & sorry for the confusion. Ray.
  3. Can anyone share any experiences they've had or am I the only one building 80%? Ray.
  4. Ok, now back to the space between my lower & upper receivers on the 80% 223 stuff please??? Anyone got answers for that one? Ray.
  5. So, a thousand yards is more realistic? Or even less? Ray.
  6. Thanks 392! Good info. Ray.
  7. I was ready to ask that too. And PHVCK the ATF!!! Sorry, cops are ok but the gvrnmnt SUCKS!!! Ray.
  8. Sorry Edge but the 80% stuff is NOT illegal & does NOT have to be registered as it is "Home Built". Ray.
  9. Ok guys, not a 308 but here is the new problem: I bought a KILLER deal (maybe not after all!) on a 5 pack of 80% lowers & the jig for $299.00. I machined 2 of the lowers on Friday, with THEIR jig, on a GOOD mill. After putting the pins in to hold the upper & lower together, there is a gap almost .060, between the lower & upper, I can see through! Nothing I machined did this, I believe their pin holes are off at least .040. I just talked to Dirk & he said the gap isn't uncommon. I'm sorry, I build race engines & machine stuff in tenths of thousandths, so this is UNACCEPTABLE to me!! Am I being too critical or is this just the way this crap is made? Is this what I have to expect with 80% lowers, that they don't care about their QC? Also, their jig was to narrow after the trigger pocket was cut & I had to open it up another 10 thou, 5 thou per side, just to get the trigger down where it was supposed to be. Is it just this company, Vision Armory AR 15 Parts, or am I going to have to stop buying 80% stuff? I am new to this so just sharing what I am dealing with. Ray.
  10. www.vytamenctactical.com is where I got this lower. I just got off the phone with them & they have a billet upper receiver for it also. Their upper receiver does not have or use a forward assist or dust cover door. Is this kind of strange? He said most 308s aren't used for assaults "from the beach", & go from the bag to the table & back in the bag most times. Does this sound reasonable or do I need to look for a different upper that is more traditional? Ray.
  11. Thanks 392! I got it for a hundred bucks at a gun show here & figured I couldn't go wrong at that price for a billet lower. Which upper should I look at buying to work with this? Ray.
  12. This is the .308 lower I bought & will finish this coming Friday, along with at least 3 other AR15 lowers also. It will be my first 308 build & I want it to be a 1000-1500 yard gun but don't want to spend 3 grand building it! I am open to suggestions & will buy my stripped upper next if I can get a decent idea on what to get. I am also building my son's first AR15 & am building a brown AR15 for myself. I am open to suggestions & welcome your opinions. Thanks, Ray.
  13. Nice guns! I like the carbon fiber!! Ray.
  14. Sorry, I wasn't trying to hijack your thread if I came across that way. I just saw the DPMS lower in this thread & thought I would ask. I will be milling at least 3 AR15 lowers, along with my AR10 lower this coming Friday & will try to post some pictures. Ray.
  15. I have a DPMS, 80% lower that the seller told me I have to use a DPMS upper with. What is different with a DPMS that doesn't interchange with others? The machining instructions for it say to NOT use AR10 dimensions or drawings, to use LR-308 pattern only. Anyone here finish their own 308 lowers? Ray.
  16. Thanks guys, I am looking forward to learning from your experience & wisdom! I am also hoping Tom will speak to me again. Ray.
  17. Dirk told me about you guys so here I am. I build & drag race motorcycles & relax by porting cylinder heads. I now have an 80% lower & jig to build my 308. I will be gathering parts while trying to build a good 1000 yard gun without going broke at the same time. I have an AR15 I just finished & am building an inexpensive first AR15 for my son. I am also building a brown AR15 for myself & have the 80% lower for that along with a brown Bushmaster upper receiver. I am learning a lot here & look forward to input & parts recommendations on my builds. Ray.
  18. LOL!! I can see I am going to like this place!! Ray.
  19. Have you seen the Elite iron bipod yet? Ray.
  20. Hello from Commiefornia everyone! I am gathering parts to build my 308 now. I have an 80% lower & the jig to cut it just got here about an hour ago! This one will be black & I will look for a good upper next. I need DPMS compatible if there are any recommendations. I will build a 1000+ yard rifle out of this one! I have looked here a few times as this site was recommended to me by Dirk in San Diego & if seems to be a great place! Ray.
