  1. Put it on mine, Dews! Then I won't have to buy a scope at all.
  2. You guys crack me up. I have looked at loopy glass scopes. I cannot recall which models, but they were in this same price range. The biggest store is Cabela's, for looking any distance, so it is not a real test of how good the glass is at much further than 100 yds. This is not a try it and return it, because you don't like it item. I guess I could ask. If I do, the worst they can say is no. Both good names, true enough. I thank you for looking out for all of us in this thread.
  3. Here is my plan. I wanted the larger tube for the durability it "may" offer. Benefit too, of the 42 mm view and 16 X. I will, when the damn thing comes in, compare the 2 scopes M-308/P-308 side by each and make my decision based on what I see. My current rings are 1" and I have the 30mm in hand to put on in the event of the change. I'm a meat and taters guy, so I bought heavy duty, steel rings both times. The place did not require me to pre-pay for the scope, which is a bonus, but I will have to drive 250 miles to get it, within 10 days of them notifying me. A good thing I like to drive. My point being most of all, durable. I'm not doing this again.
  4. I have looked through the M-308 and P-308, 1" tube and this is why I have chosen the P-308 in 30mm, SS. That glass is amazing and I have to imagine the one I want is even more so. It is supposed to be built for the rigors of the 308 cartridge, so................. as stated above, the glass should match the expectations. While I don't throw my rifles around, I wanted something that I don't have to constantly raise my voice to people about being careful not to bump it. Weight is only going to be a factor, if I have to walk the line. It's not an issue for hunting and recreational shooting. Accuracy is. So, I bought the heavy rings to go with it. If one moves, everything moves. I almost bought the M-308, 2 years ago. I am hoping that I made the right decision to wait for this one. Besides, I have gift certificates and bonus points that will ease the pain. LOL
  5. All of the Natchezss links are for M-308 scopes. My choice is the P-308 in 30mm, 4-16X and 42 objective BDC. I'm not crazy about the BDC here in Mich as the longest shot is 120 yrds and down to 70 in my blind. A difference of 3" on an animal is easily allowed for. Where the BDC will come in handy is on the open field shots that are allowed me on special hunts 300 to 600 yrds. Kills, more like it. Farmers are allowed permits for this and call them long bow hunts. Hornady 168's are my hunting rounds
  6. I'll ring your bell, the next time I come up into to Waukesha/Milwaukee, for business. And of course, after I receive said scope.
  7. Yes Wash. We can shoot in Michigan. The problem is finding places that go out further than 200 yards, for when we come to AZ, CO and NV. I've seen the "Yep, we got em" only to find out that they are on backorder a checkout. I am a patient guy and I really want to buy it from this other place. (Jay's Sporting Goods) Not a commercial for them. I just know their capabilities.
  8. Well, there's that.............. They are not all telling the truth about it being in stock, once you hit the button. The place I did order it from provides expert set up and the range is close by. Well known in Michigan, place and does have serious buying power.
  9. I am waiting on the Nikon P-308, 4-16 in 30mm tube and 42mm view, BDC and waiting and waiting... It looks like it is going to be a fabulous fit for my rig to replace my Simmons Pro Hunter of 1984. It went whack between groups of fire and I couldn't believe it went so bad. Tapping it on the top with my open hand, put it right back on the money and I still can't figure out what happened. I no longer trust it. I bought new 30 mm steel rings with 6 screws from Brownells and made a 30mm plus .0015 and minus .0005 shaft to fit them up to. I am glad I did! There were 2 raised burrs on one of the rings and 1 on the other. I don't know if they got this way from a weird drop or whatever, but you'd think after paying that much for quality rings, they'd be pretty perfect. That could have been a disaster. Some 80 grit and then 600 fine paper took care of the burrs, but I will forever have to treat the rings for rust prevention now. Now, if that damn scope would arrive. Did anybody see these at the Shot Show?
  10. Well, since you offered your Vortex to him, do you still have it and is it suitable for my needs Shepp? I have a Simmons, Pro Hunter on it now (30 years old) and something happened internally between shooting, setting the rifle down against a wall barrel up and shooting again. Merely tapping with my hand on the top of it, knocked some sense right back into it. I now have NO confidence in it.
  11. DD, what specific model scope is it? There are so many Vortex scopes available. I need a new one for my LR308B My current hunting/target needs are 100 to 150 yards, but I will be doing some "Long Bow" shooting, out to 500 yards.
  12. So, who IS doing the machining on bull barrels that they say can't be done? Successes or failures? Nightmare or dream? Thread or is there a suitable clamp on device? Upside? Downside?
  13. An item that I find invaluable, is a tube of "Valve Lapping Compound". Apply a drop or 2, to the head of your bit and it takes the slack out of a loose fitting bit. You do not have to over do it. It works great on stripped screws (straight and Phillips) and hex bolt heads. There used to be a product called "Sticktion", I think, and after it was no longer available, I tried the valve lapping compound with the same success.
  14. Only in America, would an idiot buy $300.00 worth of tent, heat and food, camp outside of a (insert store name) to save $50.00 on a TV.
  15. I had a similar issue and bought one from a recommended site. It would not fit my DPMS LR308B because of the areas shown in the pic. I carefully used a super fine file and worked the areas of concern, shown. It works fine now, but as you can see, it does not have as much front meat as the OE handle. I lube this highly when I clean it, so as to keep it slick.
  16. I know enough now, to keep this stuff and play with all that other commercial ammo first. Obviously, the consensus among us, is amazing. Keep offering it up, Wallymart.

    POA

Sorry about the double post. One of them can be removed please.

    POA

Question - There is a video on youtube, showing that a pistol fired to POA in slow mo, does not vary off course with "recoil" that occurs on the first shot fired. With the length of barrel, now figured in, could the same be said of a rifle? Can "recoil" affect POA, because of a longer barrel? Is there any data to support or refute this? Especially video? I only want answers that do not have to consider any other data, such as windage or bullet drop. Zero POA. Morgan
  19. How thin is a cable that fits through a 5/16" hole, with loops to tie them together? I really need a visual. I like the idea, don't get me wrong. A case with a perfectly matched cable, that wraps around the case and then gathers at 1 of the shackle holes, might do the trick.
  20. Can you post a pic of how you wrap it with the cable and lock it, please? My case has 4 bosses with holes for 4 locks. Certainly, these can be broken away from the case, but it is how it is intended to be used, is it not? Is the cable necessary?
  21. Just nice!
  22. It's amusing to me that every time I go to a range with people, they all "gather round" whomever is shooting "this" piece. Everyone wants to try it! I even talked my wife into shooting a few rounds and like all the others, her eyes light up big time and sport a big, poop eatin grin. What is it about black guns, that make people feel this way? I am all to wiling, to allow people the opportunity to use it when I'm at the range. 5.56's of any type, got nothing on this basic, basic model. Even with muzzle rise, reacquiring a target is fast and sure. I'm sure pleased that I got stuck with this model LR308B from D.... (Not to be anyone's lackey. As I said, it wasn't my first choice) You guys that build your own and have so damned much more experience with metal than I, amaze me. I'd shoot with any one of you, anytime for fun. Thanks for spreading all of this good stuff!
  23. I bought a crap load of this stuff (or as much as I could afford) It has all cycled well and since that bullet has a lead core, the tip must be made of titanium. Shooting at 150 yrds. (Max of the day), it cuts 5/16" chain links and puts a dent into a 1" steel back drop, like I have never seen before. Not even a Win 300 mag did this. I know there is a lead core, because the splash is there. But the dent in the steel.... At 100 and 150yrds, the tannerite was no match and no misses, so I consider this pretty accurate stuff.
  24. This info is all very good indeed! I don't expect this case will get damaged, dinged, even in rough handling and yes, it is branded as a Cabela's case. The picture kinda shows the part number and you are encouraged to look at it, when at their stores. I can offer better pics for it. It is their 44" case. The 37" was not suitable for my 39" rifle, but I liked it too. Square peg vs round hole? I wanted to be able to transport 2 rifles and assorted stuff and this one will allow for that. Now, to just keep the weight down under 50lbs. There is plenty of additional room for cut out equipment. Stepping on it and the small stuff I have done to it so far, have passed my litmus test. I like that GPS device, idea. And all the interaction info is priceless. Even though you are not lawyers.
  25. Good points Slug. If there are any dings in the case, one would want to inspect for damage ASAP, so as to get pictures....etc. Is one likely to open a case right there in baggage claim, possibly setting themselves up for arrest or being overcome by an aggressor? Same with the rental car situation. It's pretty obvious that you are toting around weapons and are not likely to be armed at the time. You just got there. Then the "stoopider" states part. I just know I won't sleep for weeks, worrying about all of these scenarios before a trip.
