Figured I would start a new thread here for the bowhunters. I got this handsome boy in mid-october, 2005. My first bow buck, a nice 9 point 16 1/2" inside. His neck was 32 inches around, 8 inches below the jaw! 220 field dressed. Also got 2 does, a great year. 3 with the bow, and 2 with the gun! My buddy did not do the mount for me, because that would be illegal if my buddy didn't have a taxidermy permit. But whoever did do it for me did a great job Lolz

Bwahahaha I'm so G yo. lol

Did some more backstraps monday. I had a monster year and shot 5 deer, so I'm eating really really good. The foil packets are my favorite. I slice potatoes and onions, and shake on some lowreys. Then I put slices of butter on top, and seal it shut folding it. The other packet is asparagus with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and yes fatty puts the butter on that too hahaha!

I love to do some grilling. I like the venison kebobs, did some in chicken too. Walmart has spicy kung pow sauce. Stir brown sugar into it and its awesome. I also like to bacon wrap me some backstraps from a young doe. I use grub rub (made in texas) its fantastic.

Some panfish, had a good year so far on them. Crappies on Big Cedar, the gills/perch mix was lake alice. That 12 1/2 is my biggest perch so far. Put away my auger and Marcum, time to get the boat out!!

Alright all keep em coming for 2016! I'll start her off with the walleyes. The one in the cooler, 24 3/4" on green lake west bend, and the other my personal best 27" on petenwell flowage

Cool cool it sounds like you have some people with the know how to help you reach that long range potential. I am a bit suprised you have not heard of Rock River Arms, but check it out. If you want to build some guys really enjoy that. If you want an out of the box rifle, RRA has very good rifles and the varmint A4 would be great for long range. Watch the daily specials, and you may find it for cheap. I got my predator HP for $1,300.00 and it is very accurate. Normal price was $1,755.00 I think. It can out shoot my ability, and would not be far from a 1,000 yard gun itself. I patterned 3/4" benchrest first time out and with factory ammo, Probably could have shot better, and the varmint has a better LR barrel than mine. Unlike a build, you also get that warranty and the reliability which is not always for sure when doing a build. RRA makes really great weapons. If you build or buy, please post pics of that baddy and have fun!

Haha dont have to watch my wallet its full of moths anyway! RRA and Federal ammunition got it all LOLZ

This 26 inch, cryogenically treated, air guaged, stainless steel bull barrel will take you as far as you want to go, 1,000 real easy if you can shoot it. With FGMM factory ammo you can expect .5 of an inch or less at 100 yards. Handloads, even more accuracy. I will put my word on it that RRA makes a tack driving machine!!

I will give you my best advice. Do not focus on yards. Just build a great rifle you are comfortable with. 1000 yards is great and all, but if you are on a budget you should know that there are probably very few people out there that can actually shoot 1000 yards without shooting all the time. It takes a lot of hard work, practice, and money. Money in ammo. You will be going through a ton of expensive ammo. That is my best guess, although there are probably people that go all rain man and just shoot 1000 yards because they rock and dont put a guns price worth of ammo down range every month. The only other thing to consider is finding someplace you can put that much range time in, and measure out and shoot those graduated distances up to the 1000. That being said, I am trying to help not discourage. There are lots of 1,000 yard shooters and guns out there, and it is an awesome passion. You can absolutely do it if you put the time and $ in. I would highly reccomend the .308/7.62. 1,000 + yards army and marine snipers use that cartridge, as well as competitive shooters. and it is a cheap military ammo for when you just want to dump 100 rounds of FMJ at the range. (trust me you will want to regularly hahaha good luck with our new addiction!) The 308/7.62 is cheap enough and versatile, with a ton of various ammunitions available, as well as great factory rounds which is important to me as i do not yet handload/reload. Here is my personal choice, just for thought. I bought a very high quality RRA .308. Initially i had 1000 yards in mind as well, but when i bought it i changed my mind temporarily. I have a neat optic that is fast handling (combat and deer hunting), accurate, illuminated, and just plain neat. It will take me out to 600. As I shoot, progress, and become more comfortable with the rifle I will eventually buy a lighter Elite Operator upper, transfer my current optic to that, and buy a mega glass monster for my current upper so I can go farther. Then i will essentially have swappable uppers and "2 individually suited rifles in one" Maybe an option for you if you are on a budget? Hope this helps!

I second that, welcome from southern Wisconsin. And congrats! You will love the .308 in the AR platform. As I understand it Armalite makes a great rifle!

You Texas folk, shout out to you too. Lived in Austin and Katy for a bit, and spent some time in Giddings. Learned how to make sausage and smoke a decent brisket down there! Love that Lone Star State. Blue bell......

Thanks guys! Shepp if you want to hit the hard water next winter let me know. Always fun to go out, and i am always looking to meet other sportsman. I had a big year this year with my personal best 27 inch walleye, and I hit the perch and crappie super hard too. And gills!

Oops haha I am new here, but I have been posting away. This is a cool forum with great folks, funny too. I like the personalities, feels like maybe a few vets too. Found you guys on accident searching something about my AR type rifle. I have a RRA LAR8 predator HP, amazing rifle. I am an army veteran of the US Army Field Artillery, but deployed as infantry/trucker. I have a 4 year old daughter and a son on the way, and an amazing wife. I live for the hunt, bow and gun. Near live off of venison lol. Into fishing and ice fishing, and I love my truck, whiskey, and beer. I am a simple old fashioned country fella. Nice to meet you all!

damn fine buck sir!! bet it ate fine too!

Lol Shepp its wisconsin anyway let them yotes have it! I live in southeast wisconsin so I know the feeling there are so many coyotes its nuts. except when I hunt them, then they disappear

Here it is. Moses machine only 4.7 ounces. I don't know how much RRA mags weigh, but every ounce counts when carrying one of our cannons through the deer woods hahahaha!
-
I am still building my stash, so all I have is 3 of the RRA 20 round poly mags. I am super happy with them though, and the price direct from RRA was I think $20 a piece. For the quality i got i am happy. However, I checked their website a day or two ago and they are offering some new mags that are manufactured custom for them I think. They are poly and supposed to be very light if i remember correctly. The manufacturer was named on the site as well may want to check it out.

Rock River is everything I hoped truly a quality weapon. I was gonna get a standard operator or standard A4 had it narrowed down to those 2, but they had a RRA daily special, $1300 for the Predator HP. Bought it and I love it!!

Do you hunt with yours? I'd love to see pics and hear ammo advice

Unforgiven; Thanks! That henry though, is a good choice. The 44 mag has a lot of options out there for ammo, as it is an established and versatile caliber. decent range too. There are good normal loads, and Cor-bon and Buffalo bore have some more "custom" loads for the 44 mag. Real smashers, mine are 300 grain jacketed flat nose +P+ rounds hahaha bought for bear hunting up here. If you ever want to hunt with your AR though, Wisconsin has near endless amounts of quality public land! -
Thanks guys! One of the happiest days of my life, I love the hunt. Got him with a rock river arms LAR8 Predator HP. I love all AR rifles, especially the 308.

Frankh see that is a good point. I have shot a shoulder or two in my day when a deer is running like hell. Not many, I don't want to ruin a ton of meat. FMJ is illegal to hunt with in Wisconsin, but maybe I will look for something like a polymer tip round. -
lol

Thanks guys! RRA is just amazing. I got mine 3 days before deer gun, and only got to sight in then hunt. Now that WI is thawing out i'm off to the range tomorrow. As for the burris combo, the TAC 30 is incredible. It has this bold black circle reticle, which illuminates 8 different brightness and has Ballistic drop compensation dots from 0-600 yard as well as windage dashes. I will be trying out to 600 next month. I have only used it in the field and sight in, all 100 yards or less. The optic is lightning fast and crazy accurate. I am very impressed. Have not used the red dot on top yet in the field, but cool at the range. I will post an update on how it performs at distance.
