This Benchmade Stryker auto has been my daily carry for over 10 years now.

Beautiful. I always loved the old triangle handguards.

Didn't know they made an AWD Charger. Nice Vette.

Beautiful. Is that an Elcan on it? Drool... I'll be putting an Aimpoint M4s on it at first (because I already have one) but I really want the 1.5x6 Elcan. Love the computer background too by the way.

Mismatched upper and lower headache.

Can't buy anymore parts for a at least a couple weeks, but so far, all the places I've looked is sold out of the Aero M5 lower. Even if I have to go that route, not sure I want to sell the lower I have. I can always slap a CMMG upper on it and give it to my son. -
Howdy fellow new guy...

I think the new Mustang has European style cues. A little too much for my taste. I also prefer the older styles.

Mismatched upper and lower headache.

The lower is a bran spanking new factory built complete MK3 lower. The guy had bought two of them, and didn't need both. I'm just excited to see the upper and lower together after the lower sat all winter in my gun cabinet. Should have barrel (Rainier Arms UltraMatch) and BCG (???) by the end of June. Things getting busy though. I just got elected to be the next Post Commander at my VFW, and I take over in June. Trying to save the post, people are losing interest. Did the flag, and led the Pledge at an Arbor Day thing today, met the mayor. Should be in the paper tomorrow. -
Any car guys here? I bought a new (to me) 2003 Mercury Marauder in late Dec after destroying my truck in a crash. I have been wanting a Marauder since they came out. Based on the Panther platform (same as Crown Vic and Grand Marquis) this was Ford's answer to the Impala SS. It's a big four door family car, on a full frame, with a large trunk, and a V-8. In this case the V-8 is the same all aluminum 4.6L DOHC engine used in the Mustang Cobra. American design through and through. It has power brakes, power steering, power windows, power mirrors, power door locks, and power seats. All standard fair these days, but it also has POWER. I call it "The gentleman's hot rod." The 4.6L (261 cid) engine is rather small compared to the big blocks of the 60s, but with double overhead cams, and modern computer controled fuel injection, it is quicker than you'd think. This car handles very well on the curves for a 4,000+ lb beast, and will be getting suspension and brake upgrades to improve on that. Feast your eyes... Gravel driveways suck... Miles per gallon, or comfort and speed? Now the fancy stereo, I had added after I got the car. The JL Audio amp and 12" sub tuck in nicely next to the full size spare. The amp also runs the door and rear deck speakers, also JL Audio. JVC head unit has lots of features, and plays DVDs. The Eagles play Hotel California. RIP Glenn. Let's see those cool rides...

Didn't take me long to get in trouble on my newest build. Although I have built other (smaller .223/5.56) ARs, this is my first .308 build. I started it off last fall when I found a good deal on an bran new assembled CMMG MK3 lower for cheep in a private sale. I finally had some money for an upper, and decided that Areo Precision was getting good enough reviews to go with. It came in today, and looks very nicely done. The lines of both receivers fit up well, and there is very little play side to side. Everything is going fine... until I go to push the pins in. They are hard to get in and must be taped (firmly) in place. I had to use a punch to get them back out and separate the two. The pivot pin hole in the upper looks perfect. there are no scratches inside the hole, though the pin seemed very tight. At the very top (12 o'clock) of the inside of the take down pin hole there is a scratch on the finish where the pin rubbed it's way through. Is it possible to adjust the holes to fit? I was thinking I could sand a bit on the inside of the holes with a sand paper wrapped drill bit to open them up some. I'm living off VA disability, so money is tight. I am not going to cheap out on the build. I will spring for quality parts, it's just that I will need time between each purchase, and I don't wish to have to go buy another lower if I can find a work around. It doesn't appear there is a need to adjust the fit of the two halves up or down, but I won't be sure of that until I can get a BCG and charging handle.

The Aero Precision upper looks well built. The fit looks good too, but the pins are very tight. I have to tap them in and out.

Got the lower in a private sale. Guy didn't have an upper. We shall see about upper/lower fit later. According to the tracking # my Aero Precision upper is waiting for me at the post office. I don't know how prolific CMMG is, but my ser# is in the 19K range.

I have an Aero Precision upper en route as I type. Can't speak to the quality yet, other than they are recommended on a couple of forums I'm on, so I gave them a try.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2

Got a an Aero Precision upper coming for my .308 build. -
What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?
daddyusmaximus replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
I'm U.S. Army retired, and spent my entire adult life (seems like) with an AR style rifle in my hands. I have great faith in the little gun as an effective tool in most instances, but there are times when you need to penetrate cover better. I thought about an M1A, but the design and layout of an AR style rifle just feels right to me. It was a simple choice to go into a .308 AR. -
Not what I needed to read on the first day. Just using the lower. I already have it. I got it last fall and have been sitting on it all winter. It's bran new, never built. Not a scratch on it and all the parts look new. I'll be putting a better trigger in it as well.

CMMG not good?

Hi there. Post #1 on this site. Having owned a .308 AR in the past, and missing it, I'm in the process of a .308 AR build. I belong to some other forums, but it seems that the .308 AR doesn't get much love out there. Maybe if the .308 AR industry could just settle on one single standard like the .223/5/56 makers did when they all fell in line with the milspec standard... Well, I'm U.S. Army retired/disabled. I did 28 years, and was retired after I got blowed up in Iraq. I'm banged up some, but still get around ok though I use a cane most of the time now if I have to walk more than a couple hundred yards. I'm married 20+ years, and we have one of each. The oldest is in college, and his sister will be next year. Both are gun owners well versed in gun safety. Wifey, couldn't care less, but she supports me and knows enough to use a firearm safely. Having had to sell my first .308 AR to pay bills several years back, once we got my VA disability pay and got back on our feet, she even bought me a .308 Savage Axis for my 50th birthday. That got me back in the mood for a .308 AR again. I was thinking of building a .300blk upper for my HD SBR to have a little more powerful hitting round, but I don't reload, and I can buy .308 ammo for the same price, so I'm going big. I'm building a SBR on a CMMG lower I picked up for a fair price. It will have a Aero Precision upper, on order now, and use a stainless Rainier Arms 12.5" UltraMatch barrel. I'm going to pattern this build somewhat after a Noveske Leonidas I saw over on M4carbine.net. I will also build a SPR style upper for it in the future. I like 4x4 trucks, and used to enjoy wheeling and camping. (overlanding) Too bad I wrecked my truck (1999 Super Duty) in Dec. I also like classic cars. Any American muscle car from the 60s and 70s. I don't have one, however, I do drive a 2003 Mercury Marauder. Love that car. Big comfy RWD 4 door, on a full frame, with a large trunk, and an american V-8. Pretty quick too with the DOHC 4.6. (same engine as the Mustang Cobra) Music is very important to me, again, mostly oldies from the 60s and 70s. I think both hillary and bernie suck as bad as obama. I wanted Dr. Carson, but I'll take Trump or Cruz... unless they can talk Gen Mattis into throwing his hat in the ring. I look forward to learning, and sharing.
