That has happened to me on a couple of barrels. I had to loosen and re torque the barrel nut a few times to get them to sit right. Maybe that will help straighten it up.

Gander Mountain closing all stores.

I asume employees like that are part of the reason they are closing. If it were my store I'da fired em long before they could fugg up like that. -
8.25 oz.....new helium composite?

Craddock and Rainier make barrels for the g2. A company called hammer arms makes barrel extensions for the g2 so you can put other brands on it as well if you want to go to the trouble of having a barrel made with a hammer arms extension.

Sorry man...logged into this forum right after I got of a midget porn site.

I think we need some clarification. Just how hard do you have to pound before we consider it pounding the shiit out of it?

Now that there's a good gun to be cleaning when your daughter's first date comes to pick her up. Welcome aboard.

Hornady factory ammo.....NO DUDE I wasn't putting creedmoor in my grendel mag
-
Nope...I think you're right. It seems too shallow. Maybe they just had a depth issue in general. Too bad...I wanted to see how these barrels shoot and now I have to wait.
-
I'm sure they didn't check the headspace. These guys were having an issue with the chambers being too deep on the grendel barrels and had a recall but I never heard about them being too shallow. I'll give them a ring on Monday. Think they offer a lifetime guarantee. Thought I was going to have a range review today BUT...sh!t happens.

I took the grendel to the range today and had a problem right away. I fired it and no cycle at all. Couldn't pull the bolt back at all. It was really stuck. I took the upper off and tried to push it out with my cleaning rod and still no luck. Spent the rest of the day shooting another gun I brought with me. When I went home went to work to get the bolt opened and get the shell out. I had to take the barrel nut off and pound a cleaning rod down the barrel with a rubber mallet just to get the barrel out enough to twist it off of the bolt and the shell came out. I've never had a headspace issue with any of the guns I've made. When I had the barrel off I tried to put a round in the chamber and it didn't seem to go in far enough (I don't have a grendel headspace guage set). I tried to put the bolt in on top of the shell I pulled out and their was just no way it would close with a reasonable amount of force. Since the barrel and the bolt/bcg were sold together I didn't think there would be an issue. Is this a headspace issue or was the chamber fugged up to begin with?

I used an aero upper and it fit pretty well. I can't say if it will fit the Tennessee arms lower as well but the aero uppers seem to be popular with a lot of people on here.
-
I've used a 80% poly lower for a .308 and had no problems yet but its only got about 600 rounds on it. We'll see how it goes. The brass buffer tube insert seems like a good idea even if it adds a little weight. The polymer80 that I have was difficult to get the buffer tube into without crossthreading.

Details? They just complicate things. Besides...y'all had fun finding it and I don't want to see out of stock when I go to order one.
-
What are you using it for? I've built between 6.7 and 13 lb .308 autos. Long range gun will usually be heavier. 1 good rule to live by when building ARs is: light, tough, cheap...pick 2.
-
Brownells has the aero uppers on sale right now for 115.
-
The issue I've had is that uppers now come in 2.0 and 2.06. The dpms uppers were super high and you can tell by looking at it that it won't fit your rail. You have to measure the new uppers with a caliper. But if you put a 2.06 rail on a 2.0 upper the rails don't line up and it looks goofy. If the rails don't line up the elevation on iron sights will be off.
-
Aero fits 2.06 and they are cheap. About 150 bux. The takedown pin holes on aero uppers are a fraction of a millimeter off from some lower receiver takedown pin holes. The pins still fit but you have to do some pounding to get them in and out. Just went through the rail height conundrum with a creedmoor I just built. I used an odin rail. The rail is the same in 2.0 and 2.06. The barrel nut on this particular rail is what makes them line up and odin offers both 2.0 and 2.06 barrel nuts. Pics of of your lower receiver might help you get a better answer as to the upper and lower receivers matching up.
-
It comes with all of the proprietary components. Bolt catch, takedown pins, mag release, hammer and trigger pins. I think all you need is the firing group. Some of these companies go by the wayside so I'll order some spares if I order a receiver. The only problem is...my next build is going to be a lightweight long range 308 and these are heavy. 1.5 pounds between the upper and lower if I recall. Looks like a xanthos or another warrhogg for the light 308.
-
I know everyone has an opinion and mine is that this is one of the nicest receiver sets I've ever seen. I feel a new build coming on.
-
I run a primary arms 1x6 on my light weight .308 and it is spot on. To make it even sweeter it was a demo scope they had on the shelf in the store and I paid 100 bux for it. I've never used the platinum but it seems to work really well as far as the turrets go. I did kind of a quasi box test with the bore laser and it went right back to the little red dot on the wall. I have high expectations for it and hope it does well. It will be great if we a can buy a higher end scope for 1500 bux. I'm planning a light weight long range .308 and it might get another PA platinum if this one works well.
-
From what I understand, thats pretty much par for the course for the scar 17. The moral of the story is... If you like your scope...don't put it on your scar heavy. The bcg is big and heavy. When it slams forward it screws up your scope.

I built 2 6.5s. Just finished the creedmoor and had the grendal done a couple of weeks ago. I'm embarrassed to say neither has seen the range yet so I don't know how well they shoot. The creedmoor is a hellfire armory receiver set with a JP drive train and the grendal is some off brand 80 receiver set with the cheapo odin drive train. I've heard the odin setup is very accurate for the price but I'd like to confirm for myself before I shoot my mouth off. I believe the grendal rifle without the scope and bipod set me back less than 1k. I haven't weighed it yet but it feels pretty light even with the scope and bipod. The creedmoor is really heavy due to the JP barrel and the buff hellfire upper. The grendal has an old Leupold mark 4 and I put the new primary arms 6x30 ffp with the Deka reticle on the creedmoor. The PA scope feels solid and the glass is on par with my Nightforce. I've never tried the PA scope before so both rifles have an unknown component on them. I hope they shoot well.
