Sisco, excellent advice. I try to make it a point to never discuss specifics about security anywhere anytime with strangers and few friends. I did get some good thoughts here though and I can implement a layered plan after a lot more research. We all know the old truism " I won't live long enough to make all the mistakes, so at some point I have to listen to other peoples mistakes and learn from them". Either way thanks for thinking of us and reminding us of opsec.

Thought that some of you might enjoy another point of contact for P.S.A., so you can tell them how much you appreciate the fine engineering they are doing. Don't forget to congratulate the wonderful customer service dept. Now this guy probably won't answer or even return your call but leave him a message. I wanted to know if anyone was keeping a list of spare parts that fit the various manufacturers guns. Mine was whatever the latest PSA bolt is .
-
That is the very reason these were ordered. Besides here in Virginia we just got a new Governor, well really a copy of the last one Bloomberg bought and his big push is , "common sense gun laws". You may read that as no guns unless you are a criminal or guarding a criminal (Governor, Politician etc).

Survivalshop, is there a list somewhere to add these to?

I ordered the following spares for the PA10 bolt from Midwayusa: DPMS Firing Pin LR-308 Stainless Steel AR-Stoner Bolt Gas Ring LR-308 Pack of 3 DPMS Bolt Cam Pin LR-308 Matte I replaced the original parts with the new spares and sent a 10 downrange. I realize that this is far from a conclusive test since I only fired a 10 but my recently acquired PA10 (12/2017) fired, ejected and worked just fine. I now have some important spares to pass along. One odd thing, at least to me was that the original bolt gas ring was just that, one continuous ring while the spares are like all the AR15's I have seen, three separate rings. But in spite of that they worked just fine. I hope this will help some of us out.

My own post got me to thinking and I had an addition, it would be possible to run a wire in plastic conduit down an existing ditch and get within 100 yards if the alarm recommended would allow the sending unit to mount that far away from the sensor. I need to mount the sensor 200 yards away to actually control the area properly.

I have about a half mile driveway in a very rural area. We occasionally have uninvited people show up. That isn't the bad part, sometimes we don't know they arrive since no one is always watching. I hate surprises so does anyone have a good wireless driveway alarm with about a 200 yard range they can recommend. We won't be digging any trenches that far in this clay/rock soil, at least not without big loud booms.

I am sure that you do and it works for you, but it makes me wonder what the cannelure is there for. Maybe match is the key word. If the rifle is used in a more (not a fan of the word) tactical situation and more rapid fire used do you think setback might be an issue? Personally with the round going bang inches from my face, hummm makes you think.

Alamo is right. Look at this tool: https://www.brownells.com/reloading/measuring-tools/bullet-comparators/lnl-comparator-body-w-14-inserts-prod36535.aspx. There are several made that do the same job this is just the one I use. With these tools you are always measuring from a known point since even small imperfections found on even the best made meplats will show a difference that to a point do not affect accuracy. You no longer measure c.o.a.l. or o.a.l. now you measure ogive to base. What survivalshop is saying is right as well, these tools are used to set your cartridge length to have a certain "jump" to the lands in long range and bench rest shooting. With these AR's though we generally need to set length to crimp at the cannalure. we are held to about 2.80 overall length to fit the magazine. If rounds are not crimped to the cannalure the recoil of the AR will cause the bullet to set back and result in sometimes dangerous pressures. You then get KABOOM, not a desired outcome.

Absolutely signed up but don't tell washguy, I am allergic to bunkers, on any level. Any more thoughts, I mean a 20 inch barrel practically screams rifel.

98 have you tried an AR-10® A2 Rifle Black Buttstock Kit – EA6050. I know I keep flip floppin like a Democratic Congressman but Brownells and DSG are out of stock on the carbine set up, hell Armalite is out of stock on this so if I have to wait what difference will it make which one i wait for. Anyone with an opinion can chime in.

I put a magpul ACS-L on the .308 and it locks tight with no wiggle. Someone with more experience than me suggested paint lines on the receiver extension as a quick way to assure that the length had not been changed and my cheek weld would be consistent across different rifles. It seems to work so far.

If it won't function any better or be better balanced I won't bother. Besides butt stroking is for wooden rifles.

New 20" barrel, now it short strokes
Hotwrench replied to Dracomeister's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I saw that thread, great information but no help to me on component size, like rings etc. You are right though I need to try and test, and what works now may next time. This .308AR thing sure keeps life interesting. -
I know you guys are right, use the right equipment to get the right results, however I learned about quarters right here from 98. They should work until I can find the right components and I am sure I won't find them at a PSA . Now the ball busting is over and I am getting a proper buffer assembly ordered. Would a fixed rifle stock be an advantage on this 20 inch barrel PA10 and why in your opinion or why not? Discussion of pros and cons is usually the best way to go and easier than trying all the alternatives. Besides at my age I don't have time to make all the mistakes by myself when I can learn from yours, cheaper and faster.

Does anyone know how to contact PSA? I have tried repeatably by phone (803-724-6950) today (1/8) and there is not even a line to wait in. I tried calling JJE with no returned calls after several weeks. I tried email, same result. Is there a secret handshake or code word? Did they close or sell out to Walmart? Maybe there was a mass abduction at the lack o service dept. They at least used to answer(after an unsuitable period of time) and lie about stuff or say I don't know.

Thanks bfoosh006. Does this mean, in your opinion that FA BCG parts (rings, firing pin etc.) will fit the PA10 bolt? Anyone else with an opinion on this, chime in please. -
I haven't but I will and right now. Thanks again.
-
Maybe that is why the pin has a bevel on the head?
-
Weird for it to be that different. Are all of them that way and WHY??
-
I see your point. I am not sure that I have that much focus, but I would be happy to help anyway I can. Would you please look at my post "wrong cam pin???" and reply?
-
I was just reassembling my BCG and noticed something odd. Please see attached picture. Compared to the only other cam pin I have (AR15) the cam pin hole is 90 degrees out. Is this normal for a PA10 BCG or have I encountered another PSA point of excellent Quality? I have only fired 20 rounds so maybe I just got lucky.
