  1. @Armed Eye Doc Let me know what you think, Doc. @98Z5V seems to like them. Lol
  2. It just adds character and there will always be a story to tell.
  3. Bull schiiiittt... I had to see it to believe it! Absolutely awesome @Magwa !
  4. Don't forget to mention that a GIRL had @Magwa's 338 all dialed in for you for your "cold bore" hits.
  5. Not bitching, but I did fail to mention I went 4 in a row on the mile, missing the 5th and final shot just high over the target. Barrel heat and it was a little hotter than the average. Cold bore and then 3 more. Sorry, I forgot that part. @Magwa had to remind me. It was so easy it was forgettable...
  6. I got tagged here, so here's my .02 cents on this stuff from my experience. Lol SD's are only important the further out you're planning on shooting. I've had horrible SD's make little tiny groups at 100. I've had low single digit SD's pattern like a shotgun at 100. That gets addressed by changing seating depth. I always chase SD's and intended velocity first. If I can't get an acceptable group with both of those factors being what I want, I change bullets. Looking for mid/low single digit SD's on a bolt gun and anything less that 12 in a gasser is good enough. Obviously lower is better. Primers make a huge difference on SD's AND velocities. Just a primer change can either help or hurt an otherwise good recipe. Finding the right one is just part of the process. Just because it's a BR Primer doesn't mean it's necessarily going to work. I've been surprised before. Neck tension and shoulder bump are also very important, in my experience. Case weight variation doesn't seem to really matter so much but different brands/lots do. Neither does concentricity if you're using quality loading equipment. Bullet sorting by BTO seems to be the only real factor that makes a noticeable difference down range being that it has the most effect on BC consistency. Barrel coolers and a temperature strip on the barrel or laser thermometer are a must have for keeping the testing consistent. All the data you gather doesn't mean anything if the barrel temp is different for every string of shots. I made a barrel cooler out of an old ice chest that I installed an air mattress pump in and use freezer packs in it to draw cold air instead of ambient temperature. A must have here in the desert. I'm probably preaching to the choir, but it sounds like you're on the right track. I've found that some of this stuff that one think's should make a difference, doesn't really. And I agree! Whatta hobby!
  7. We have the calibers to go further than we are now. Except a 200 MOA Wedge. Gonna need one of those to get to 3300 yds. Can only dial to 2300 yds right now.
  8. IYKYK
  9. Here's Gun Pushers hit. #15 i think? Definitely coming in sideways and sporadic just like we saw with yours. Needs more BC! @Cunuckgaucho
  10. I had a great spotter.
  11. Aw man!
  12. Thanks, boys!
  13. Well, this weekend wasn't as successful as our last attempts at the 2K. In our defense, the wind was a lil crazy. From 0 mph to 10-15, from most all the directions. Very switchy, very gusty. The wind tape was wrapped around the t-posts a dozen times. Lol This impact was on shot 11. Chasing the wind all over the place. A little bit o luck played a part, I'm sure. @98Z5V and Karen both flung at it without impacts. Both of them were all over it. Quite a few misses less than a foot off plate. It was spicy! We'll be ready to go again here in a couple weeks. I'll work on the load and try to get the SD's into single digits. Right now they're averaging 12 running 2,880 fps.
  14. We started with a standard IPSC for the mile, as that was the only "big" target we had. Now we're running a 24x36 out there. We'll use that for 2,000 and I'll have a 30" circle made for the mile by the time the Fall Shoot gets here.
  15. That's the thing. Having the rig is cool, but then ya gotta feed it! Gun Pusher is having that same dilemma with his 375 Cheytac. Bad ass rig, but DAMN it's hungry!
  16. We're gonna need Llama's or Donkeys to haul our shiit all the way out there!
  17. @Cunuckgaucho I approve of 7PRC, for sure! I don't have much experience with 7mm projectiles, but all the math I've seen there's a strong argument that its the "perfect" bullet. I have a 33" barrel blank in 7mm that I'm trying to figure out what I want to have it chambered in. 7PRC is on my short list along with 7 SAUM and 7 WSM. Build that thing and help me make up my mind!
  18. If any one of you gets up and cold bores the 2K, I'm sellin ALL my shiit! And you'll owe me a beer.
  19. I think you need to be further over there!
  20. @98Z5V 20240204_124500.mp4
  21. I have a feeling we'll find out one way or another!
  22. I looked em up and I think they'll do the mile no problem. They have a BC of .611 running at 2730 so getting them to 2K can happen, but will most likely have the same situation I ran into with the 220 ELDX. Similar BC and speed. @98Z5V Here's Barnes listing https://www.barnesbullets.com/product/precision-match/?attribute_pa_cartridge=300-win-mag&attribute_pa_bullet-weight-gr=220&attribute_pa_bullet-type=match-burner-otm-bt
  23. Reloader 25 pushing a Hornady 225 ELDM. I was watching the base of the case for pressure at every step. Primers are good, no ejector swipes, no heavy bolt lift. And then it started cracking cases trying to separate the head. I've been using that 100 pieces for a little while now. At least 6-8 firings. Maybe more. I have 200 more that I'll draw out of to put this final load together. I think you're right, that those cases have reached the end of their life through natural causes. Maybe my sponsor can hook me up with some good brass in the future. Lol
  24. Not quite finalized but good enough to get to 2K accurately and still flying straight. Still need to do seating depth, but I did find the amount of powder that will try and blow the back of the case off. I have a few cases that are now trash. Lol.
