Yeeeeaaahh Buddy……it may be cheap girl, but damn is she fun. I gotta admit I found myself browsing online today looking at parts to start another or just a complete one. Just window shopping, but I do want a 2nd 308 within a year or less. Might give in and just buy one. The 1st 308 that had me deciding I really wanted one was a Windham that was at a mom n’pop shop on the eastern shore, a year and a half ago in the height of the COVID mess, so passed on it stupidly. But it’s kind of haunted me since.I’m assuming Windhams are a reputable brand??. The price tag said so…….😅

Welcome from Maryland!!! New member myself that came needing help with my 308, and this crew ironed me out quickly!!!!

Calvert Sheriff Dept is like this for the most part. They only really check on shooting if there has been a call and they just make sure people are shooting safely. We know several and related to 1. All big 2A supporters and very much on the Lets Go Brandon train. They have told me stories about all the yuppies that have moved in to the county and call about shots being fired..............from either people hunting or just target practicing. They then proceed to tell them "hey, you moved into a county that is very rural, people have more than enough acreage to shoot safely, and have been here for generations, unlike yourselves. If you don't like people enjoying their freedoms, you should have researched better into the area you moved. Have a nice day" A bit of paraphrasing, but thats the gist of it. For now, this place to me is the last good thing about MD. So this trigger thing.............is it too late to get these? Yeah, late to the party I admit. 😞

Thanks! Looking into it. It looks like it will be easier to grasp as it looks wider than the standard types, so can charge it easier and focus more on the pull than struggle for grip. Mainly for my girls. That stiffer spring had my wife damn near popping a forehead vein trying to pull it while struggling to grip that tiny handle. Take out the gripping issue will make pulling easier. I’ve got a feeling this 308 is going to be hers and I’m going to have to do a 2nd😉 Woe is me…….

Thank you for the welcome!! My youngest daughter will be getting the 303……..she’s already claimed the mini14, all the 556 ARs,and well…….everything else 100% with ya on the rest😁

The X is for St.Andrew’s saltire of Scotland, and it’s centered between brit-303 the cartridge. Most of my family is from there. There and Ulster. My dads father was in a Scottish regiment during WW2 and a 303 was his rifle. I do not know the full details but after fighting in Europe, he was sent to Canada to do some type of military training and still had that rifle. He was allowed to keep it??? Then after release from the service he stayed in Canada briefly then moved to Annapolis. Then in 1989 he moved to Ulster/Northern Ireland and left the rifle with an uncle, who has since passed it on to me, but his memory of the details on keeping the rifle is vague, and my grandad passed away in ‘99 over in Ulster, so that bit of info is no longer available sadly. I’d like to know 100%. Plus by coincidence I had also already had another 303 no4 surplus rifle, years before I ever had any knowledge of the heirloomed 303. It was my first and 2nd rifles ever, and I enjoy shooting the caliber, besides the prices or non existence of ammo over the past couple of years. I sadly no longer have the surplus no4, but am keeping the heirloom 303 til I can no longer hold it! As far as the brit with the X combo, I was coming up with a cool design for stickers for my race bikes and wanted something 2a related and heritage related, and when I did the combo……it looked like it said Brit-X-303…….but with a big white X in the middle with the blue running behind the brit and 303, and it just kind of stuck. I do have that grandfather’s release paperwork in a family bible showing his regiment number and it’s relation to his location while in Canada. Will dig it up when I get a chance, because you’re a Canuck and I almost could have been. Sorry, if too long?😋

I would like to get an ambidextrous charging handle for the 308. Is this another aspect of 308 manufacturers not having a standard and could potentially have different lengths……or are they usually all the same? The one that came with my upper is the typical mil spec type, dimensions are 6-7/8” to the latch and 8” overall, both dimensions from the interior end/tube hole. Is this somewhat of a standard? Thanks

Oh lord............Im not at liberty to go on with that conversation.

Yes Sir, Thats what im thinking too........I will give them another couple of tries. But going to also go ahead and order a couple more Hexmags in the meantime since it fed it so well. I am happy happy happy right now. Iron sights worked great too, as we dont have any type of optic on it. But even 100 yard shots, we were able to easily pick off 4-6" white rocks that were down range...........we got there when range was hot, but had a few open lanes to pick from.........I didnt want to call COLD to setup a target, so figured just function test it while everyone else was still shooting, and the rocks were a visual to focus on, but ended up being more fun than hole punching paper anyways. Once range went COLD, we had run through all the 308 we brought, so then setup a proper target to sight in the new 556. All in all, a great day at the range and better than any day at work, even if we were there under an hour. Mission accomplished.
-
Runs perfect now and with the Hexmag!!! Doesn’t feed right with the ASC or Pmag, so quickly tossed those 2 aside and continued with the Hex for 60 or so more rounds with Zero issues other than ran out of ammo and moved on to a new 556 we just did and needed sighting in. The wife loved shooting the 308 too!!!! Bonus. Thank all y’all for getting me sorted!!!! It’s appreciated!!!!

Gas tube arrived and on it .Brought it up right where you guys are saying it needs to end in regards to the cam recess. Port hole...........the first drill bit to NOT enter is a .093, but the previous at .082 fit easily........so im between those dimensions which seems close enough to test out. So at this point I now have a 5.1oz+ buffer, orange spring, new mags that will now dry feed fine as opposed to not like before, and the gas tube that brought me up where I should be. Grabbing everything and heading to the range now..................
-
Excellent, thank you! The last part I’m waiting on is the gas tube which is arriving today. I will triple check the port size while it’s back open and go from there. Much appreciated, thanks again

Its definitely something in the air from the c@pitol hill fog

Sorry, I know this is very old post.........but as a racer I approve of this message And rain race tires are PHENOMENAL!!! There are some guys that are only a second or 2 of their dry times. Me personally im about 10..........but ive binned enough bikes in the rain that those lap times aren't worth it anymore as a self funded club racer that has work Monday morning

His Mother was originally from there, but moved to the DC area for a gubment job back in the 70's. When She retired from that she wanted to move back, and he moved with his parents to work with his Father as he started a small plumbing business.
-
You're welcome😁 I had a friend that moved from the area out to Denison Iowa. He came back to visit and brought a buddy from out there with him to check out DC etc. Yeah, he was floored at how cruddy our nations capitol is
-
Pfffft I grew up around the DC area, then lived in Baltimore for a few years................flying bullets were normal if you ever had to drive through certain sections😱...................

The various magazines arrived yesterday........tracking shows the springco orange spring comes today........but the replacement gas tube showing it comes tomorrow. Was hoping the tube would have arrived today too, so It could be test ready for tomorrow AM, since thats the best time to go to the public range and im off work anyways. Such is life, but I guess i'll have to schedule another sick day after its done Weekends are a nightmare at the public range..........its packed with idiots smoking weed while shooting and will even start shooting when the range is cold and people are down range setting up targets, so during the week first thing in the morning is always best. Fingers crossed she behaves herself.........
-
Hear ya loud and clear............but Ive got 16 years to go at the new-ish job and then I can actually retire comfortably, but I want out now as well. Im born and bred in Annapolis, but cant stand that place even more than DC sadly. Its just a mess. Calvert is nice..........for now. The idiots that have moved in from all over the country for gubment jobs, seem hellbent on f*cking it up and trying to overgrow it in record time. I guarantee im more bitter than you sound
-
Gotcha. Yeah I know that area pretty good. I worked for 20 years, 1 block from the Cheverly Metro station, until a almost 4 years ago. Of course I only went further into DC for work, but its a much better job.

PG? Do you have a place to stretch your rifles legs? The best we can find is Myrtle Grove, but its so damned hectic there 99% of the time we go. I used to go there ALOT circa 1999-2004, and it was so low key, and often nobody else there shooting. Then we've moved around 3 times, and now back in SoMD in calvert, and started shooting again, and a lot more over the past year and a half. Myrtle Grove is a mad house now, but its the best we can find that we can go on a regular basis if possible. Theres a farm over in Charles we can go.........but coordinating with the guy to take us on there is a chore in itself with various work schedules etc.
-
Yep, we are one of those states here in the east. But we could be worse...........New Jersey, New York or Connecticut...........sorry in advance to any members from those places............

I'll 2nd this. Back in September I built a hodge-podge 9mm AR on a 556 80% lower, PSA 9mm glock-able bolt and their 16" barrel. Anderson 9MM upper. Bought the 3 pack of the MeanArms Pmag conversion. Close to 1000 rounds now, and not a single malfunction. Damn fun gun, but holy cow does it make you burn through ammo 😉
-
True, but luckily Im in a 2A sanctuary county......😁
