Im not sure what you mean by mixing uppers and lowers. I think your best deal will be finding one locally thats been hanging around. Many guys grabbing good deals under $1000 in the current economic climate. Armalite and DPMS (includes Bushmaster) will be your best bets. These are not like AR-15's and as a general rule it is not cheaper to DIY a 308AR, it's more about making what you want.

They sure do appear nice. Im not sure what benefit the casual shooter gains from this high quality part over a standard bcg. I too like the idea of getting one for umm uhhh testing purposes.. ;D

Im still battling these guys and getting more pissed. They ruled the first charge for $1 is legit. I realize it's only a buck but it's not my charge. This doesnt give me any confidence in their process. So when I calm down Im going to tell them that I never received the product I paid for. I have to believe ip addresses are logged when stuff is bought online. I have only ever used this account from 2 ip addresses ever, home and work. Both ip's are fixed

Do you have a front sight to mount on the picatinney to compare heights?

How about a picture of the rifle on it's side so we can see the entire weapon. Take the EoTech off and leave the rear site up. Maybe also the same picture with the entire rifle minus the buttstock
