I think there are a lot of us that need to follow your example, as we and our parents/loved ones mature, we tend to do for others before we do for ourselves. Well done, and peace on you!

So I notice @Berry 's PSA receiver is marked G3 10, mine is marked DR 10 - what are the differences in just the receivers?
-
@Berry have you made it to the range yet? How about a fully dressed picture? Or do you have one elsewhere?

There are quite a few out there, Bersa is not the most iconic or popular brand out there, but a solid build and good warranty if needed. Function has been flawless on the models I have owned. Form has been very appealing to me. I got my first one in the early 2000's, a few years after the first gen Thunder came available. I liked it, it was boring. It shot everything, it's neither tiny nor big, I suppose at the time it might have been on the smaller side of carry pistols, it was well made and stupidly, I decided it was not exciting enough and I sold it and proceeded to work my way through all sorts of carry possible pistols. Towards 2010 or so, I came across one that just grabbed my attention that day, the price was better than right and I took it home, then to the range, I realized how fun and forgiving and easy the Thunder is to shoot! Takedown and cleaning is a snap! I found that Vega made a holster for the Thunder, got one and started carrying the Thunder 380 daily. Guess I had to go through all the others to get back to what worked best for me. So, when my wife finally took her CCW course, and at the end was presented with about 15 different models to fondle/shoot - she didn't like any of them. And, more importantly, had issues with operational controls. So she asked to shoot mine - that's the last time I carried that Bersa Thunder. She appropriated it. She does not carry out of the house, but that pistol goes with her downstairs in the morning and back up at night. All that left me without my absolute favorite carry pistol. I have a compact 1911, a CZ 75, a few others, all trustworthy, but none as comfortable. So, I looked and looked (phucking Covid years!) and finally found a plus model (double stack) that I really wanted to try anyway. Holster I got for the first one fit, good thing as they aren't to be found anymore. So far this one also shoots all the training ammo types and brands I would shoot in any firearm, it really does not add enough in weight and grip width to make a difference except.... 15 ROUND MAGS!!!!! Yup, it's a 380. Nobody wants a 9mm hole or two in their body, no matter what the power behind it is. And well made 380 ACP at 7 - 10 yards will make anyone but a crackhead rethink their strategy. I'm a happy man comfortable and trusting in my chosen carry firearm. Bersa Thunder 380 Plus

The car and truck and camper have first aid boxes, as does a get home bag (that isn't much used anymore), but now you're making me think. I'm sure there is room for a couple of flat items like 4 inch gauze pads and a bandanna and anti-septic towelettes. I've gotten lax since I've not been working out of the house. I will thank you with a raised brow and sideways look, wondering what else you will suggest that I decide needs to be included. I've been keeping this a small "grab and go" thing. So much anymore I am wearing sweats or shorts that will fall off if weighted down with more than a pocket knife and keys - and sometimes the keys will drag them down! this I can sling over my shoulders having the bag up front for access control and access to all storage. It also disappears in the black interior of my car behind tinted windows. Less eye candy for casual lookee-lou's.

Yes they do! I've had a couple of their rifles too, no complaints.

For most of the last year, my daily wear has either been shorts and T's or sweats and T's or jeans/tac pants and long sleeve Henley under a thick button down long sleeve, mostly the least amount of clothing to run around in. When working in the urban jungle, I'd 3 o'clock carry my Bersa, worked out very well, when I run to the store real quick, I'd pocket an LCP Max, all good options. I did however put together a quick "snatch-on-the-way-out-the-door" bag that covers most everything for a few hour jaunt out, no matter what the uniform of the day is. It's a black sling bag that I have agonized over because it either doesn't have enough room, or it's too roomy for what I want right now - so I finally decided it is mostly full, it stays that way, and I never have to worry about what is in there. The only thing that rotates out is the snacks - they get some time on them and it becomes necessary to change them out. Snacks are there because I have been known to "blood sugar crash" and it's not fun. It's got a Gerber multi-tool, a small folding knife, a space pen, a pencil, a small note pad and a larger notebook for detailed writing should it be necessary, a small O-Light, and most importantly, my Bersa in a secured Velcro holster with a spare mag. In my car is a "Sticky" holster, and once in the car on anything further than 10 minutes away, the Bersa comes out of the bag, into the sticky and either on the top dash flat, or behind my right ankle between the seat and console. If it's just me in the car, it goes on the passenger side between the seat cushion and console. When and if I get out of the car, it's on me or put up about as securely as I can. And being an amateur radio op, I have been known to carry a hand held radio in the bag as well. So, what have you all got?

4" S&W 357M would be on my list. I'm hitting all around it, but... S&W M27-2 6 1/2" Kimber K6S 3" with added Combat stock S&W M617-5 4" The 617 is about the perfect size, for me, and a 357M with that configuration would be great to train with 38spl all day and carry +P SD or good SD mag loads. My point being the weight/recoil ratio, for me, works well. The K6S is a little small for a range toy, and training is limited to about 25 rounds of 38spl. If there were a combat sized Hogue grip, it would be better, but alas, no joy. This is a great camp and trail carry for weight and form factor. IF, I were to ever land a 4" 686, this would go to bedside and the 4" would be the camp and trail gun. The M27 - sheer phucking pleasure/hoot to shoot! This was my dad's and his face always lit up with joy when we went to the range to phuck off and this came along. Matter of fact, I do not remember any time we went to the range and this did not come along. 38spl comes out of this like 22WMR out of a 4" pistol, and the magnum rounds take accurate flight out past 50 yards with little effort on the part of the shooter. To be this thrilled by a mere revolver should be morally questionable, but...

I had a Firestorm 9mm Mini at one time, almost wish I still had it. It was a good shooter but hit the "trade winds" when I came across the CZ 75.

I like it down that way - nice drive from here to there.

Concealed Carry While Cycling and Mountainbiking

There is also an unused front most zippered pocket that is for my wallet. Phone can fit almost anywhere. Though I don't bike or run or walk much (I know I need to), the idea is one easy to carry small bag to grab on the way out the door no matter if I am running to get the lovely bride an ice cream, or we are headed out for a longer trip - this has the minimum of what I need for up to half a day or so, and has my Bersa Thunder 380 Plus w/spare mag. I have also been known to stash a handheld radio in the main compartment - there is a surprising amount of space in this little bag - as long as you are sticking to essentials... -

I know - waaay old post! @imschur, what did you end up with? I have a sling bag that has a Velcro lined rear compartment that has my EDC secured in it. the bag has a few other items, crackers and a Gerber multi-tool, an EDC wallet that holds a small folding knife, space pen and O-Light, a decent pair of Walmart readers sos I can see things in my hand 😁, and now that I am thinking it, there is a small spiral note pad and pencil that needs to go back in it. Pens are great but.... -

Yeah, long shot TO me is 6 - 800 yards, FOR me is up to 300 - realistically 1 - 2225 or so yards. Not that much real estate I can get to here unless I get to use the sheriffs range, and that's only up to 400 yards. But that would be ok, if I had access. Got a Dem in the office and the local Marine Corps League Detachment was no longer allowed to shoot on their range those early Saturday mornings when nobody but the birds were awake. My only other option is to join a local range, But don't know their KD range, AND i really don't feel the need to pay $300 join fee and $150 a year to use. I would do the &150 yearly, I can make use of it enough, and I'd volunteer for upkeep and such. But $300 initiation? 🙄

So what cartridges are the most forgiving with respect to operation and material longevity? All I know(?) is 5.56/223 can be shot forever out of a chrome lined or other good stainless barrel, accuracy may not be under a couple inches at 300 yards, but... I actually had a Colt HBAR that consistently put three well under a quarter at 100 yards. 308W seems fairly forgiving in the barrel life of things, and 30-30 will last well over 10 years and thousands or fired rounds. It is my understanding that 6.5C, Grendel and 260 Rem are hot enough to wear out throats after how much shooting? I'm not a complete idiot, I know the hotter the cartridge, the harder on the firearm. Tell me what your experience is. I do so love the idea of the 260 Rem and 7M-08. Learn me.

This is all seriously interesting stuff. Makes me want to start another thread to just ask questions for mental filing. 💾

LOL! I've been licensed for over 30 years and since the first day, amateur radio has always competed with shooting sports for attention. For the last ten years, I have had all I need for three full shacks, be they mobile or fixed station, I sorta lost my interest in FM just due to local silliness, there is a local regional net I participate in somedays on 80M, and I have lately been listening to 10M to see how far away I can hear. Aside from the obvious advantages over cell phone use (911 took us for a ride there) with a decent antenna and general coverage radio, you can hear all kinds of things the general pubic knows nothing of. And one of the morning crew I hear is on the NC/TN border - I imagine KY is not a problem, and on 40 or 20M would be easy.
-
@shooterrex in the meantime, get on 6 and 10M - the bands are open more often that not, you really stretch out on 10M SSB.
