Just an update for the rifle. New stock is a huge improvement and I love it. I had to fit it a tiny bit for my buffer tube but at least it is like a glove now.

I wanted a semiautomatic in .308 because it is a little tamer than a 30-06 for a battle rifle. Cost, performance and reliability were factors in my decision. I considered older iconic rifles like an FAL, CETME or Saiga ect. rifles. I wasn't going to splurge on a SCAR but I did consider an FNAR from FN. The problem was that it didn't field strip well at all, so that was a deal breaker form me, but I still like it anyway. I don't have any AR rifles, so I decided to get America's rifle after doing my homework. The platform is a mess somewhat with standards but I'm starting to get a handle on the differences a little. Anyway, I don't have any regrets so far and am happy with it.

A couple? That's an encouraging amount as proof for it being a good buy. TY for that and I feel better about it now.

OK, just pulled the trigger on a new addition for my LR-308. It's an Adaptive Tactical EX AR Rifle Stock. Reviews are positive with mention of slightly heavier, little chunky & cushy. In my unstable mind, that may be a good thing because some of the stocks are the same ones put on a smaller AR15. When I shoulder and look at the one I have, it feels like it needs to be more substantial. A little chunky may be a good thing for me and a slightly heavier would balance the barrel out better. And lastly, who wouldn't like a little cushy on a .308. Probably isn't for everybody but it will hopefully be a plus for me. I'm excited to get it installed and it was relatively inexpensive also.

I am going to revive this thread because favorite handguns is a good topic. You know how it is, I can’t pick just one because they each have an application. The top 3 on my all time favorite list stay loaded because I use them all the time. The FNH FNP-45, I keep close and is my go to for full size and max capacity. The Beretta 92FS Compact L 9mm, is my main carry OWB @ 4:00. And lastly it is the PC M&P Shield Plus 9mm, is the most carried because it is versatile and can be concealed in many locations. I would have a hard time changing this rotation with something else.

Hey, don't mind me here. I just like reading things that I know nothing about. The best I can do is sending my condolences for warm beer and hope for better days. I know a lot of things, but with refrigeration, I call the man or hit the classifieds for a new gem.

Very nice! Well, there you go, proof is in the pudding. I'm happy for both you and me now, with this rifle. I'm afraid that I probably will never be able to have a trophy elk in the background of my pics though. I have no problem holding up the tail of the group, just as long as I can shoot my rifle and plink my way to happiness.

It's a hard call when to give up on a state and move, but at the same time people need to learn the consequences of who they elect. Voting with your feet is one way to get the message across but then again so goes away a good vote to help fix it.

Hitting commies in the pocket is a win and moving is even better.

I guess I never really introduced myself properly because I was excited about my new rifle. I am also mentioning this because of where Rsquared lives and I shoot in Virginia at my daughter's farm in the mountains. It could get tricky because I live in North Carolina. I plan to go there after I get back from a cruise we booked for the beginning of August. I am retired and have been around guns my whole life. I guess I am old school, just short of being a Fudd. I am thinking about putting a fixed buttstock on this rifle but could use some advice. I just briefly dug in and getting a used factory one may be difficult. I'm going to keep looking around and see what pops up. I saw some with these stocks on guns when I was shopping for the one I have now. I really like the way they make the gun look and it would be comfortable to shoot also.

I read briefly somewhere that DPMD offered DI or gas piston on the shorter barrels, but which ones exactly, it didn't say. They called, in the article, DI as cheaper most likely because it has less parts. It really is down to preference but there are advantages to gas piston. Mine is DI and I am ok with that. Probably other manufacturers do it too but I'm not an expert on the AR platform. I'm really an AK man but I am liking this LR-308 a lot. It cleans easy enough too, and I like that, and feels good in the hand also. Probably the best thing is it's black and looks bad a**. lol

That's an interesting place to be for insider knowledge shooterrex. You saw some of their stuff first hand, as it came out, and knew someone who shot their competition stuff. Very cool!

Here is a video of early DPMS that is interesting historically. I saw my quad rail on here in the video, minus the gas block rails. This would be at the Minnesota plant under original owners.

I'm excited that you are familiar with the gen 1's 98Z5V. I'm not trashing newer DPMS rifles, but it is just interesting to have a first production one before DPMS moved to Alabama shortly after.
