Welcome to the forums! Glad to have ya. <thumbsup>

I don't at the moment, my old 24" DPMS came right in at 14.5, this one seems a hair lighter. I'm guessing 12-13, but take that with a grain of salt.

Yep. Frank is dear to my heart, but he is being sold to fund a younger sister for Goldilocks.

Just as the title says, this is a LR308 configured as follows: Standard A2 Stock, rifle-length buffer system A3 upper with Forward Assist Standard Bolt Carrier Standard aluminum handguard with no rails, does have lightening slots milled in it Two piece clamp-on style gas block w/ integrated folding sight Light profile 18" barrel in black teflon, has shallow flutes and a large Bennie Cooley compensator on it DPMS Panther Tactical grip w/ palm shelf JP adjustable trigger w/ anti-walk screws This rifle has less than 100 rounds through it, and as it is now retails from DPMS for $1,553.37. I will part with it for $1200, or a reasonable trade in combinations of guns or parts needed. Unless you are one of the people I've dealt with personally already, I will only ship to your FFL. I also have a optics/mount combo, consisting of a Mueller Optics 8.5-25x44 w/ Mil-Dot reticle and LaRue Tactical LT-158 throw lever mount. They are a combo and cannot be seperated, I will let them go with the rifle for $400. The scope is already leveled, all you have to do is pop it on your rifle and go. Thanks for looking, pics will come soon.

Build #2 on the Mega Mono receiver set has begun. This one will stay as is, and the next will be built as this one was intended to be. <dontknow> What can I say, I'm hooked on this receiver set.

Thanks, it's great to have somebody that can help me identify those issues. I know I have a good enough setup that the results are on me, which is a big relief. When I was shooting the top right on target #4, I heard a guy a couple lanes over put his son on the spotting scope and say "Look what the AR guy on lane 6 just did!", which of course was followed by more of the rest of what you saw. After my 3rd mag, I had no malfunctions whatsoever, which makes me inclined to believe that my bolt and barrel have become good friends. It was very crisp and tight for those first 3 mags though.

Good Prices on Bulk Federal .308 168gr Gold Medal Match - Where?
Matt.Cross replied to imschur's topic in Ammunition
So far the best price I have found on actual FGMM. Sellmarkguy's find is going to be really hard to beat though. Here's the link: http://www.outdooroutfitters.com/federal-premium-gm308m-ammunition-gold-medal.aspx?LineItemId=06eca9f8-144a-48d3-8af0-deddc65b549f -
Well, as promised I have posted up pics, you can find them here: http://308ar.com/forum/club-house/range-day-9-24-11/msg15553/#msg15553

Just what the title says. Lay it on me! Also, if anyone has a harris bipod they're looking to offload, let me know about it.

Matt.Cross replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
That's exactly right! I'd love to become their spokesperson, if for no other reason than getting the employee discount.... <laughs> -
You are right about the gun not being "benched", I shot the scope test targets off the bipod from a seated rest, all the 'post zeroing' targets are off the bipod from prone. I find that being honest with myself about my shooting helps me stay motivated to try to keep it continually improving. I'm eager to get to the point where the limitations of how well I shoot are in the gun itself, and right now I'm just not there. I will get there though, and I'm satisfied that this is a weapon I can get there with. I couldn't be more pleased with the rifle itself, I just gotta get the shooter whipped into shape. <thumbsup> My motto is: "I shoot not because I AM a great shooter, but because I WANT to be a great shooter."

Well, I swapped my DPMS bolt carrier into my Mega Arms build and headed off to get some range time with my new rifle. Armed with many boxes of FGMM, I hit the range early and decided to have fun no matter what happened. I started with a partial box of FGMM, (8 rounds) to determine whether and/or where I was going to be on paper. Where I was averaged out to 8 MOA low, and 1 MOA right, so after my 8 rounds I adjusted accordingly and shot that zero for the rest of the day with only minor adjustments made sporadicly. My only complaint for the whole day is that I'm such a bad shooter that I'm making the gun look awful, BUT... I made a concerted effort to follow each shot and they are placing exactly where the reticle was when the shot broke. It's just up to me to become better at breaking the shot correctly. I promised a member here in the Mega Arms thread that I would even post my embarrassing shots, so here goes. Here's the sight-in target, starting with scope test #1: Scope test #2: [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/ScopeTestGrp2.jpg Then after setting zero, target #2: Top Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target2TopRight.jpg Top Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target2TopLeft.jpg Bottom Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target2BottomLeft.jpg Bottom Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target2BottomRight.jpg -------------------------------------------------------- Target #3: Top Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target3TopRight.jpg Top Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target3TopLeft.jpg Bottom Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target3BottomLeft.jpg Bottom Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target3BottomRight.jpg ------------------------------------------------------------------ Target #4 Top Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target4TopRight.jpg Top Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target4TopLeft.jpg Bottom Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target4BottomLeft.jpg Bottom Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target4BottomRight.jpg ---------------------------------------------------------------- Target #5 Top Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target5TopRight.jpg Top Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target5TopLeft.jpg Bottom Left [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target5BottomLeft.jpg Bottom Right [img width=810 height=602]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/Range%20Day%20%209-24-11/Target5BottomRight.jpg Targets 2 - 5 were all 5 shot groups. All shots were 168gr HPBT Federal Gold Medal Match. All told, I'm very pleased with the build, and I'm confident that as I become a better shooter, groups like #4 top right will become much more common.

What do you have on order or in the mail?
Matt.Cross replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
I've got another ATC SR Gold trigger coming from Brownells. This sucker is the greatest aftermarket AR product since the barrel. -
Ok, so I haven't gotten my bolt carrier sent off just yet, but it will ship after today's range session. In the meantime, I thought I'd show you guys another picture of the key difference between the bolt carriers. I'm sure Young will have it fixed in short order, and now I have a pic to send them.
-
I'm taking mine back to the range this weekend, I'll post even my embarrassing targets.
-
The question is more or less a question of trust towards the builders. You have to decide if you want to take your chances with the components they're not telling you much about. You also need to ask yourself the cost of getting unsatisfactory customer service. If the product they ship you isn't up to your standards, it's going to be very costly to have the rifle shipped back and forth over so great a distance. Just something to think about.
-
I agree with what you're saying about the mil-spec deal, but being incorrect about that doesn't make their product a bad one. I don't like bashing a product that doesn't have a reputation, one way or the other.
-
Open Office has no problem with it.... <dontknow>
-
It's really an incredible trigger. It has made it to the top of my list of aftermarket items to improve an AR.
-
I need to find a good all around chemical for removing soda and other sticky items from keyboards. Between laughing my butt off and the gun porn, I'm going through keyboards like there's no tomorrow.
-
Young said to ship my bolt carrier back and they'd happily fix it and ship it back to me. I'm hoping that since they're not marketing it yet as a finished product, they'll take aftermarket triggers into consideration on their final design. As it stands, I'm simply waiting to hear back from them on whether or not I should send the trigger with it, so they can take measurements and perhaps amend their design to accommodate aftermarket triggers.
-
Actually, this one is hefting right at if not just slightly heavier than the DPMS carrier. If it's lighter, I sure can't tell it. Cycling it by hand with the standard buffer gave the same results as the Enidine. I will shoot it with the standard buffer until I feel sure that the action is wearing in to a slightly less crisp fit, but I don't think the Enidine is really the cause of my problem. I pushed in the piston of the Enidine with my thumb, and that SOB is one tough dude to compress, but it's not in the diagnostics picture now regardless. I have an e-mail going through to Young Mfg now, we'll see what they have to say about it.
-
Well, testing has eliminated the Enidine, it's back to the drawing board. If I put an empty casing in the chamber and cycle the action (with the YM carrier), when I pull the trigger, the hammer will not move. However, if I unlock and pull back ever so slightly on the charging handle and THEN pull the trigger, the hammer falls every time. My solution is to either shorten my hammer, or send my carrier back to Young to have the hammer relief cut back a little further. My action is very crisp but my bolt is locking & seating every time, the carrier is just riding over the top of the hammer when it goes into battery. I can see a little mark at the very top of my hammer where the shoulder in the hammer relief is coming to a rest atop it. I will give Young a shout and see if they've had this issue and see if they'll fix it for me.

DPMS w/ YM bolt carrier DPMS w/ DPMS carrier [img width=810 height=607]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/DSC00043.jpg Ma Ten w/ YM carrier [img width=810 height=607]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/DSC00044.jpg Ma Ten w/ DPMS carrier [img width=810 height=607]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc158/jm_cross/DSC00045.jpg I can't see any discernable difference. I'm beginning to think I've overlooked a VERY important factor all along, and it makes me feel incredibly stupid, and rightly so. This new action is very tight, no big suprise there. What I haven't factored in so far (big duh here) is my HYDRAULIC BUFFER. When the bolt goes to seat, I'm betting the give in my hydraulic buffer isn't forcing the carrier all the way into battery. I'm going to put the standard buffer in it and cycle it by hand a few times and see if it locks & loads like it should. The rest of you can take turns kicking me and reminding me that when I think things through, it helps to think them ALL THE WAY THROUGH. <dontknow> <laughs>

Gimme a sec to grab the rifles and my camera. I'll use some empty casings and seat the bolts.
