Stonewall
Let me preface this by saying I am really ignorant about AR-type rifles - but I want to learn!I have a new DPMS LR-AP4 and do not care for the collapsible stock.I am familiar with and really like ACE Skeleton stocks, have used them for years on "other" rifle platforms.I am trying to determine if this stock will work with my rifle and, if so, what specific mods (If any) I will need to make. The stock I am interested in: http://riflestocks.com/store/product93.htmlAny help is greatly appreciated! 6132expert
I dont see why it would not work. <dontknow>
Jgun
Welcome to the forum. As far as I know the Ace ARFX will work fine on the .308 AR. You will just need to get the correct buffer tube, buffer, and spring for your application. the rifle length AR-15 stock uses a rifle length buffer tube . I'm assuming that will also be the case for your .308 AR but I'm sure that if you give them a call at Ace/Doublestar they will be able to tell you which are the correct parts to go with the the stock you want to use. Those ARFX's are rock solid and light weight besides, good luck.
Robocop1051
I have the Ace ARFX. I had it installed on my JD 308 (DPMS compatible) for a while I took it off before I sold the receiver set. I plan on putting it on my new SI build. Just install with a standard A2 buffer tube like you do for an AR15. The ARFX is the exact same installation on the 308 models. Obviously you'll need the longer buffer and buffer spring. Since you're making the change I suggest the Tubb CS flat spring. It is a cheap and simple upgrade that will make a noticeable difference for you. Hope that helps
98Z5V
Just install with a standard A2 buffer tube like you do for an AR15. A1 buffer tube, with spacer. That's what the A2 is. The guy will play hell trying to find a single buffer tube that's A2 length, because it doesn't exist. I'm just sayin'...As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure that all the Ace stocks only use the AR-15 A1 buffer tube (receiver extension) without the A2 spacer installed. Just tossin' that out there... <dontknow>
Jgun
My friends running the ARFX on their comp AR15's all have rifle length ARFX's (vs the carbine length ARFX) and run the AR 15 rifle length buffer tube along with the AR-15 rifle buffer and buffer spring. On a .308 application would you use the .308 rifle length buffer and spring along with the AR-15 rifle length buffer tube?
Stonewall
Thanks to all for the input!Like I said, I'm sorta clueless here but trying to learn. What I think I know, so far:My AP4 rifle has a Carbine Length buffer, spring, and tube. This means I can use the ARFX stock in carbine length using the hardware already in the rifle. If I want the rifle length stock, I need the correct (A2 length??) buffer, spring, and extension tube.Sound right? Jgun
I thought that Clint from heavybuffers.com had said that the AR 10 carbine buffer tube is slightly longer than the AR 15 carbine buffer tube. What you say sounds logical but if it were me I'd call up ACE before I started ordering parts. Besides which, since your not going to be able to adjust the length of pull you should make sure you know which you prefer, rifle length or carbine length stock, because they sure feel different when you shoulder a gun that has one and then try the other. 98Z5V
A1 receiver extension (buffer tube) for the AR-15, .308 AR Rifle Length buffer, .308 AR Rifle Length spring. <thumbsup>All the A2 stock is - is the A1 Rifle Length receiver extension with a 5/8" spacer on the end of it, the A2 stock itself, and a longer (by 5/8") hollow buttstock screw. Just look for the stuff above, and it'll work. <thumbsup>
