I was originally planning on swapping out the standard handguard that came on my AR-10 with a free floating one.  However after actually shooting it stock I actually really liking the feel of the standard handguard.  Accuracy seems acceptable to me this way as well so far.

However there was another reason I was going to put the handguard on.  To give me someplace to mount a short bi-pod.  I was going to use a light smooth round handguard.  I don’t have the a need for a quad rail on this and would actually like to avoid one at this point.  So my question is…  What are my options for bi-pod mounting with the stock factory setup?

That may just do the trick.  The next question is to decide if the plastic is sturdy enough to mount one too.  For $14 though I will probably just order it and try it.  Can't go wrong at that price.

A little off topic here since my AR-10 doesn't have a quad rail but I wonder why it is that Harris doesn't make a unit that attaches right to a rail without an adapter.  At least I have never been able to find one anyway.

Yes I know, a lot of people make the adapters.  Some of them cost nearly as much or even more than the bipod itself.  What amazes me is that with the popularity of the 1913 rail that Harris hasn't made a bipod that doesn't require an adapter to attach to one.  For me right now, I already have one I plan to use, and I have no rail on the AR-10, so the adapter is the best idea. But still it would seem almost common sense that they would make one that had the mount built in.

One could look at it that way.  More importantly though my Harris adapter should arrive early next week and even more importantly my Bushnell 1.32 MP should be here tomorrow in time for a weekend test run :)

While on the topic of bipods, has anyone used the VLTOR 2 piece Mod-Pod yet? I'm very tempted to pick one of these up. I wanted the CAA version, but I see theirs is discontinued. It was the only CAA product I ever liked.
