As much as I keep saying I am done I am considering yet one more addition to the AR-10 that's been recommended by at least a couple people here.  The Magpul MOE handguards.  However I am not positive which length I should use.  One person mentioned long but other places I have seen mid length mentioned.  So for those who have done it, which length should one use on a 16" AR-10?

It depends on the length of your gas system. Normally one would only use the handguard that measures the length from receiver to gasblock. Roughly it's 7" for carbine and 9" for mid length, and 12" for rifle...

Then there is the "Dissipator" style. That's when you hide a carbine low profile gas block inside a rifle length handguard and then install a mock gasblock at the rifle length position. RayGun is the only person I know to do this so far... And he's being shy about posting pictures. The problem is that most barrels aren't contoured to accept a gasblock any where except where it belongs.

Have you posted a pic of your AR-10 on the forum yet?  A quick look at it will tell us which one you need.  Armalite has a couple different gas system lengths out there, that aren't the same as the AR-15 gas systems.  Pop up a pic and we'll chime in.  <thumbsup>

EDIT - Disregard, I snatched one.  ;D

Looks like mid-length to me; it's definitely too long for carbine, and it's not rifle.  You'll need to measure those handguards that you have right now, though, for sure.  Verify and compare to the stats on MagPul website.

I will measure it but it does seem to line up real close to my LMT AR-15 with a Middy gas system.  It's not apples to apples though because the LMT is a free float quad rail MRP platform.
