paperclip_maniac
Hey guys, I'm new to the 308 AR platform, so my dad and I split this DPMS LR308C, and we just finished putting our stuff on it, like the ergo grip, free float tube, PEPR mount, and vortex 3.5-10x44 scope. I just have to cover up the bare metal on the barrel, maybe some black primer spray will do the trick. I should be taking it out to the range soon, pics to follow. weaponizer
Welcome, nice rifle... <thumbsup>Please do not use primer on the barrel, at the very least use heatproof paint..
hobbesgunner
Nice piece!!! How you liking that scope? Heard good things about them but haven't been able to find one to look through..thought it might be good alternative to a Nikon or Leupold ...........did gun tip over when you took picture?? The way its sitting the camera flash might tip it.....happy shooting :)
paperclip_maniac
I might just leave the barrel color alone and switch out the gas block to the extended rail kind, so it covers the bare metal. The vortex is good enough for me, but the only other scope I have is a nikon prostaff 3-9 on my Savage .30-06. The Pmag is pretty stable for standing the gun up, I was just leaning over to take the picture lol. The trigger is pretty bad, but I have a JP spring kit, or I could the RRA 2 stage out of my .223 and drop it in. Is the RRA a crap shoot on the DPMS's? Because I've read about an even number of them working and not working...

paperclip_maniac
Gotcha lol. I went ahead and put the JP springs in and cleaned the trigger up, and it's a hundred times better. I'm going to go ahead and order this gas block: http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Yankee_Hill_Single_Rail_Gas_Block_750_p/yhm-9385a.htmso I don't have to look at the bare metal, and I'll have the option of putting sights on. Robocop1051
Check this one out too. It'll give you a few more options in the long run (4 slot vs. 6 slot). http://www.precisionreflex.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=186676&CAT=4211
paperclip_maniac
That block looks a little high...or is it just the picture?
Robocop1051
It is the same height as the receiver rail. You mentioned wanting to possibly put a front sight on the gas block. A gas block with a rail the same height as the receiver will make it easier to find a good iron sight.A normal gas block rail requires a taller front sight. 98Z5V posted this example earlier.I feel there are more options for BUIS that are designed to be mounted on a handguard than on a gas block. paperclip_maniac
Oh ok, I was thinking it was raised for the higher mount on the armalites and the bull barrel DPMS...definitely gonna look into that one...
