Rojodiablo
I have a Bushmaster 308. It's fine, with a low round count. But I have been known to put a lot of ammo thru a rifle, or a pistol. (My 2 ar15's have a combined 7500 thru them and they are 4 and 6 months old.....)I like to keep spares on heavy use items, and I already have a spare BCG and reapair kit for the 15's. When the time comes to replace the Bolt on the Bushmaster, would there be any issue with using a Knight's Armament 25 rifle's BCG? Would there be a headspace issue, or would they be compatible without modification? On the other side; if you were to swap out a barrel, would it be a better value to swap to an Armalite AR10 BCG and barrel, or would the better value be in the KAC components, or stick with DPMS parts? ( I understand the 2 are both fully tested and proofed. This is why I am asking about them as the 'next generation' if I wear out my Bushy's guts.) I shoot enough that I render a .243 into a .250 in about 5 years....... :o
survivalshop
Nothing wrong with DPMS BCG's , any DPMS type will work , there are a other manufacturers out there making bolts & carriers.Any time you change to a new barrel , it will need a new bolt or one that was broken in with it & always check head space, even when replacing the bolt for repair. Robocop1051
I agree with SS. Barrel, bbl extension, and bolt all go hand in hand. Replace one, replace them all
Rojodiablo
Thanks for the input guys. Now, specifically, does a KAC bolt headspace generally match a DPMS barrel? This is kinda the jist of the question- I will expect to swap a barrel in 3 years or so. Likely I will go up to an 18" from the 16" I currently have. I would expect to match the new barrel with a new bolt, if not a whole new BCG. But I feel the bolt carrier should be ok, the question winds up at headspace for the new barrel to a new bolt. If anyone knows for sure, please lets me know. Thank you very much!! ;)
edgecrusher
like the guys said, new barrel, extension, bolt. the carrier will be OK but yes, headspace it, preferably maybe sent to the barrel maker and have them head space to your new barrel.
