Fulton Armory BCG Disassembly

Recommended Posts

My rifle is finished except for some accessories (iron sights, rail mount sling attachment).  I need to check the head space and have the gauges to do it.  How do I separate the bolt from the carrier so I can remove the ejector.  The firing pin appears to be held in by the firring pin retainer with a screw on the right side of the carrier holding it in.  I assume you unscrew the screw and the retainer will punch out releasing the firing pin.  Do I push the bolt all the way in the carrier and pry the bolt carrier cam pin out with a flat head screw driver?  When I push the bolt into the bolt carrier the cam is in the same position as it would be if it was turned for removal in a regular AR.  No turning necessary. This BCG is not like the ones in AR assembly videos.  Thought I would ask before I got into it.  <munch>

That's no moon , I mean screw. Its the end of the split pin for the firing pin ( firing pin retaining pin ).

The end that you show that looks like a screw head is side where where you push that pin out from & when pin is removed the firing pin can be removed & then the cam pin comes straight out & then you can remove the bolt assem.

The above is correct.  From the slotted side, push out the pin.  It may be a very tight fit but it will push out.  Better tight than loose.  On one of my LR-308s the pin is so loose that it kept falling out during reassembly after cleaning.  I finally had to spread the slot with a small screw driver and now I have to tap the pin to get it back in, but is sure does not fall out any more!

Once you knock the pin out, the FP drops out the back same as normal, and the cam pin lifts straight up, no turning 90* like on an AR.  Then just pull the bolt out the same as with any other AR.

Press in on the extractor and you can push out the retaining pin, and I recommend you use an ejector removal tool to remove the ejector. They are not that expensive and make life a whole lot easier.  I use one from Brownells that does AR-15 and LR-308/AR-10/Remington 700s/Winchester 70...
