Johann
I'm building a 308 AR using the DPMS 18" SASS barrel. The 308 Miculek Compensator (http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=1641) I bought seems to line up nicely without the jam (or locking) nut. Okay to install this way? Or, is the jam nut necessary. Also, I'm right handed, is clocking this comp necessary, or can I simply align the ports at 3 and 9 o'clock. Thanks,Johann
Robocop1051
What are you using to hold the brake in place? You don't want to crank that thing hard into the shoulder of the barrel, at the end of the the threads. You'll mushroom that little shoulder. If you don't like the lock nut, try a crush washer or aluminum shim peel-washers. Don't trust lock tight on those. 5 or 6 rounds will heat everything up enough to defeat any of those glues.
archangel
you gotta install the jam nut first. thread it all the way down. then thread on the muzzle brake all the way done. unthread as much as you need of the muzzle brake so the ports are aligned to the right and left. then tighten the jam nut to the muzzle brake with the ar wrench. i just installed one this morning
Johann
Thanks. Waiting on my lower, gas block, receiver block, and multi-wrench. Then the building can commence.
survivalshop
The jam nut serves two purposes , 1- to align the gas ports in the comp/brake , 2- to lock the comp/brake in place . Do not be afraid to use a small amount of loc tite on the threads . I have a custom PRI brake that is shimmed with shim stock ,0.002 " is all it took to index it on the barrel & no matter how I tightened it , it would loosen up at the end of each range session . I called PRI & they said to use a small amount of loc tite & its been several years & still tight today. I thought the same thing about loc tite & heat , until then . Shaggy
This is my LRT-SASS with Miculek Brake. I purchased the crush washer, but didn't have the tools to get enough torque on it, so I went to the hardware store & found a washer that had a little bit of a cone shape to it. I also used loc tite.
