bigt77 Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Not sure if it belongs here or in the building a 308 area. I've read nothing but good things about the RRA Varmint A4 (thinking about the 26") Can I build something as accurate for the same price or cheaper? (not counting required tools into the cost of the build)edit: reading online, some say that a 26" isn't worth the extra weight. How much of a difference is there between a 20" and 26" as far as accuracy and effective range?
unforgiven Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Got a 20" Coyote 5.56 and 20" Standard Operator .308 with 0 FTF and 0 FTE they are the cat's meow <laughs> >.308 has proprietray parts in upper and uses FN FAL mags.Love my RRA. 8).Thinking if you are gonna hump the rifle 20" might be a tad lighter.Operator weight was 13.5# w/ full mag. 8)
Spaniky73 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I have the A4 LAR-8. It has the 20" on it and yesterday me and a group of buddies were hitting targets at beyond 500yds with surplus ammo. I have a couple of buddies that are Marine snipers that use a M110 with a 20" and are hitting man sized targets around the 1000yd mark. I think if you want to shoot farther than that you should look into a 50cal.
Edge Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 I've got the 26" Varmint and it has proven to be the most accurate .308 semi auto that I've owned. (See my other post for pictures of groups I've shot, including a 10 shot group).I'd like to get my hands on a 20" Varmint model just to see how well it would shoot.
hollywood Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 This is what a 20in RRA LAR-8 VARMINT can do ;D
unforgiven Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Welcome from Indiana brother Hollywood, good shooting. <thumbsup>

unforgiven Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Visited vermont a few years ago,Burlington then to some museum that was on a few acres had boats and stuff all over.Took the ferry across Lake Camplain very cool, very americana. <thumbsup>
jonawbr Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 I have the 26" varmit with the half quad and the 6 point stock. It is a great rifle with amazing accuracy. If I had one complaint it would be the gun is very front heavy but that is nothing a bipod can't fix.
