Not sure if it belongs here or in the building a 308 area. I've read nothing but good things about the RRA Varmint A4 (thinking about the 26") Can I build something as accurate for the same price or cheaper? (not counting required tools into the cost of the build)

edit: reading online, some say that a 26" isn't worth the extra weight. How much of a difference is there between a 20" and 26" as far as accuracy and effective range?

Got a 20" Coyote 5.56 and 20" Standard Operator .308 with 0 FTF and 0 FTE they are the cat's meow <laughs> >.308 has proprietray parts in upper and uses FN FAL mags.Love my RRA. 8).Thinking if you are gonna hump the rifle 20" might be a tad lighter.Operator weight was 13.5# w/ full mag. 8)

I have the A4 LAR-8. It has the 20" on it and yesterday me and a group of buddies were hitting targets at beyond 500yds with surplus ammo. I have a couple of buddies that are Marine snipers that use a M110 with a 20" and are hitting man sized targets around the 1000yd mark. I think if you want to shoot farther than that you should look into a 50cal.

I've got the 26" Varmint and it has proven to be the most accurate .308 semi auto that I've owned.  (See my other post for pictures of groups I've shot, including a 10 shot group).

I'd like to get my hands on a 20" Varmint model just to see how well it would shoot.

I have the 26" varmit with the half quad and the 6 point stock.  It is a great rifle with amazing accuracy.  If I had one complaint it would be the gun is very front heavy but that is nothing a bipod can't fix.
