Leupold Mark 2 IMS one piece mount vs Leupold Mark AR one piece mount

Recommended Posts

I recently traded into a Leupold VX-freedom 1.5-4x scope with their pig-plex reticle. My coworker threw in a Leupold Mark AR one piece AR mount. I’m really impressed by the improvements they made with this mount vs their older Mark 2 IMS one piece AR mount that I’ve had on my Aero M5 for years. The older style has 2 screws per ring vs 4 screws in the newer Mark AR along with a more solid rail mount than the older one. My plan for the VX-freedom 1.5-4x is to mount it in my 13” 5.56 pistol so no harsh recoil in it’s future

I’m not sure if it’s my ocd making me over think it or if there’s value in swapping the newer more robust looking Mark AR mount to hold the 2-7x on my 308 vs just leaving it in the older Mark 2 IMS. I haven’t had any issues with shifting zero or anything with my M5, just contemplating this since I’ve got both on hand now. I’m curious for opinions from the collective experience here?

I love Leupold Mark AR mounts.  Have them on two .308s and one .556.  I recommend them regularly.  That being said - as an old fart - I've come to firmly believe in and live by the old adage - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks Mike! Kinda where I’ve been leaning. Went ahead and mounted the 1.5-4x on a 13” 5.56 for now.
