Charging handles... A new look, from the side...

Many many years ago I was on the bandwagon to use and recommend the Mecharmor Defense TacOps-01 charging handles. I think I have at least one of every size. To this day I am still impressed with its' manufacturing. It's a shame to see such a company disappear to the masses of red anodized garbage that sells today. The TacOps is a thing of the past though, and after SHOT 2025, I decided to make a small upgrade to my rifle after many years of doing nothing.

While in Las Vegas I randomly met a company called Devil Dog Concepts. I had just finished an interview with none other than Classic Firearms (I know, I know.... name dropper!!!) and I just happened to be standing next to their booth. After a brief demonstration... and a few jokes about being a crayon eater... I was intrigued to say the least.

Normally I'd photo document my work, but their pics are way better than what I can do. I'll grab some better pics in a follow up post.

The device is VERY well made. Consisting of both aluminum and steel parts. They explained how the .308 version had multiple adjustment points to assist with the irregularities of the .308 platform uppers... Challenge accepted!!

One of the best features of the TacOps was how tightly it filled the charging handle slot. This device blocks up all the space and locks up with a heavy steel locking lug. There is a loud audible click as the handle falls into place. Adjusting and setting the handle up was done with a single allen key. It took me about 3 to 4 minutes to set, adjust and then reset the apparatus.

Being able to charge the rifle without removing my eye from my scope is the best part. The action is still very easy to operate, as long as the adjustment it all done properly. I first mounted the device too far forward and found that the handle was snagging when I had it pulled all the way back. I adjusted it by resetting the device one T-slot back. This took up all the slop and it tightened down SNUG.

I watched the team kick start their AR-15 using this device... and that was a big thumbs up for me. I'm not planning to kick start my $$$$308 anytime soon, but I like knowing that the feature is safe.

Mine came with the "Traditional" handle... but I see that have a folding option, so that's going to have to go on my list ASAP.

I don't think I need to say it, but I am impressed. If you have a few bucks burning a hole in your pocket, and side charging is a jam you can get down with... I strongly recommend this one.
