85 Jimmy
I have a kimber custom target 2 1911 that I want to put night sights on, but I don't want the big target night sights that get in the way of everything. Does anyone have a suggestion on what sights to get? I can get a picture of the slide where the sights sits if no one knows how the slide is with the target sights. Robocop1051
I prefer Meprolight and Trijicon. They just do it right! <thumbsup>
planeflyer21
I think that the Hiene Straight-8 are the way to go! Make an 8 BLAM!They have the newer Ledge series too, which were designed with one-handed cocking/malf-clearing in mind. The ones I got for my XDM are BRIGHT!Jon
392heminut
Your gun has the adjustable sights, and that is a pretty complicated cut in the slide for those sights. A tritium front sight is no problem at all, but you're very limited on what's available to fit that rear sight cut. Kimber uses what's called the LPA type adjustable sights which is not the same cut as the more common Bomar type sights. Kimber sells the Meprolight sights;http://store.kimberamerica.com/Products/tabid/67/CategoryID/28/ProductID/1060/PageIndex/1/Default.aspxHere are some fixed sights to replace your adjustables with a couple of variations on the tritium inserts;http://shop.harrisoncustom.com/c/64/rear-sights-for-lpa-cut-springfield-adj-non-tritium-modelsHeinie also has a fixed rear night sight to replace your sight, and as Robo said, they are very good;http://www.heinie.com/product_info.php?cPath=9_26&products_id=40Brownells has one that fits made by Kensight;http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=23175/Product/ADJUSTABLE-NIGHT-SIGHTand here are some Trijicons;http://www.fusionfirearms.com/servlet/the-280/Adjustable-Trijicon-Night-sight/DetailIf you are going to find one load and stick with it I would recommend going with the fixed sights like the ones at Harrison Customs. Night sights aren't cheap and the fixed versions are a lot more durable. Once they are sighted in for your load they shouldn't ever need to be moved. Robocop1051
Novak sights are pretty nice too!http://www.novaksights.com/products/sights/models/kimber5.htmlYou really have a lot of options.Personally, I prefer the tritium inserts that have the white bushing around them. That way they can be equally effective in day or night settings. If you don't need the tritium, and really only 1% of the people who own guns REALLY need tritium, I recommend checking out the fiber optic model sights. Here are some examples of front sights. Serrated - Tritium - 14kt. - White - Red - Green - Plain Tritium Night Gold Dot Fiber Fiber Black Bead Optic Optic
85 Jimmy
I have trijicon on my glock and love them, but like 392heminut said, it's the rear sight that is the issue, this is the cut out for it.I'll look into the harrison custom sights. Robocop1051
I have those same Bo-Mar style sights on my Springfield TRP Operator. It's hard to find a good set to replace them with. Harrison Design is the best place to start your search. If you're still taking suggestions...http://shop.harrisoncustom.com/p/155/hd-006-t2-night-sightI'm very tempted to jump on this myself... 392heminut
Robo, his sights are definitely LPA type. They are similar to the Bomar, but the dovetail is further back and the elevation screw goes into the dovetail, not onto a threaded hole in the slide. It's enough of a difference that the sights aren't interchangeable.
Robocop1051
I was wondering why his sights were so far back?? I wasn't aware the difference was so significant. Thanks for the info. I hope Harrison has an answer for this. I see LPA doesn't have a non-adjustable sight.
392heminut
I hope Harrison has an answer for this. I see LPA doesn't have a non-adjustable sight.Yep, Harrison does have non-adjustable night sights for the LPA cut. I posted a link to them in my original post.If I'm not mistaken, Wichita Sights came up with the LPA cut to get around Bomar's patent back in the day. Not sure if they are even around anymore.
