MONTANA308 Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 How important is headspacing the bolt in my ar build my barrel maker said he can do it but it's really not nessesary. What you guys think I've read that it should be done.

All the other calibers, it is a small expense for a very expensive/dangerous failure.99.9% of all AR-15 parts are made to be within a certain spec (hence the term Mil-Spec). The problem is that there is no "Mil-Spec" for the other calibers. The 308AR has so many different variants that it is really hard to guarantee you'll be ok. If your barrel maker is +0.005" and your bolt maker is -0.005", then you will be off by 0.01" and that is a BIG red light. Take advantage of the barrel maker headspacing for you. If there are ever any issues with that later on, they'll take care of you better.

But in my mind I was thinking there is no mil spec for the 10s. I will have it checked for sure. I just wanted to see what you guys thought seemed weird to me.
