  1. Take the rail off while adjusting the gas block. Get it set then reinstall the rail. I used an Apex handguard on my build which made it pretty easy.
  2. Better safe than sorry.
  3. Welcome. Got to play with my FFL's Saturday. Very nice rifles, his likes the 168gr SMK's he was running Varget powder, but not sure on the charge.
  4. Welcome from Oklahoma. Congrats on the new AR.
  5. My guess would be hard military primer not getting hit hard enough. It would be more a fire control issue than anything with the buffer/buffer spring. Could check your bolt and make sure the lugs are fully engaging. If half the lug is real shiny on only half of it, it is a headspace issue. Seems unlikely with 700+ rounds through it. I'd probably find an extra power hammer spring and try that if you are shooting lots of surplus through it. I've never seen or heard of any issues with FTF due to a buffer or buffer spring.
  6. Greetings for Oklahoma. Lots of good info here. Look at dsgarms for mags. DSG will allow backorder. No telling how long the wait will be...
  7. Kies matched set from JoeBob. Waiting for my dang FFL to pick up at FedEx Hogan H-308 lower and 5 pmags for Saturday BHW 18" 308 barrel (standard with mid-length gas), gas tube, apex handguard for tomorrow. It's the backorder that is making me sad right now. Too much to list.
  8. Hogan sells the bushing set you need. Think they run about $20. http://www.hoganguns.com/parts/308lowerparts.html
  9. The Oklahoma legislature has extended an invitation. Thinking Texas or Montana is most likely.
  10. Yep, it is a gun forum. This thread proves it.
  11. Kies matched receiver, so DPMS pattern. I'll post my build list later today if I have time. Main parts are Kies receiver, *See Site News* 18" bull profile barrel in .243, Geisssele trigger either SSA-E or 3 gun, SI defense BCG (should be worth the wait), heavybuffer.com heavy buffer and spring, and Seekin's adjustable gas block.
  12. Hey Craig, you here in the OKC area like me?
  13. I've been lurking hear for about 2 weeks taking advantage of all the great information while I'm putting together my first build. I figured the best way to thank everyone for saving me tons of time on my research, that I should join up and help out the next guys down the line. I'm currently waiting on parts to arrive for my first build, which will be a 243 AR do to ammo component availability and since I already reload 243. I plan on completing a .308 upper if this build goes well.
  14. http://www.tacticaloperations.com/SWATbarrel/ The above link has provided me with the best experiment I have found on barrel length for a 168gr .308. Hopefully it proves useful to all of you also. "During the development of the Tango 51, Tac Ops took a standard 26-inch barrel and cut it down to 18 inches in one-inch increments. Between 10 to 20 rounds were fired at each invrement. They found that a 20-inch barrel provides for a complete propellant burn and no velocity loss when using Federal Match 168-grain BTHP, a cartridge that has become something of a law enforcement standard. Going to an 18-inch barrel only resulted in a loss of 32 feet per second (fps). " Per Federal's data, the muzzle velocity in 2650fps, this would mean 2618fps out of an 18" bolt gun. If someone could verify the speed out of an 18" or a 20" AR, I would be appreciate it. With current powders, you could reload a 168gr SMK with CFE223 up to 2828fps. Rather that load is accurate in your rifle is another story though... I'm building my first rifle, and with the research, I'm sticking with an 18" barrel for a 600yd hunting and high power rifle.
