I have to say this system takes all the dope calculations out of the picture. I am looking hard at the Eliminator 3 for my AR-10. I have a MK4 on the 700 but the size and capabilities offered(albeit if they are true) would be a better choice on the AR IMO. Anyone have any inputs?

Very interesting. It's also priced with premium traditional scopes of similar magnification http://bit.ly/18GI1R8

We have an unwritten rule here that if a member asks about an item that no member currently owns that member must purchase said item and report back. That's how I ended up with a Browe optic :)

I absolutely love the idea of the Eliminator, almost bought one of the earlier models.  But what stopped me is that I've had other Burris scopes and the optics left a lot to be desired in less than ideal light conditions.  Trying to target shoot while facing a setting sun was almost impossible, while other scopes seemed to filter the glare out better.

The other problem I see is what happens when the electronics crap out after 5 or 10 years and the warranty is only for 3 years (I think).

Like I said, I love the idea, but it's too much money for me to gamble.

I really don't do targets but rapid engagement during low light(dusk/dawn) is what I am thinking. I could see glare washing out hologram. The possible failure issue is also a concern as was stated.

So you're thinking something more along the lines of a "strike-purpose" type of optic/sight. I understand.

But.....you started the thread. And as imschur said (and being an enabler).....it's up to you to get one and report back to us. It's only fair. <laughs>

Well after further research from comments here, its not a reliable optic. As it would seem there are issues with the power consistencies and low light wash out. Not really worth a $800 dollar experiment I'm afraid. Oh well on to the next option.

I understand. I'm a EO-Tech kinda guy myself for some of my rifles....depending on barrel length. Everybody is gonna have their opinions when it comes to optics. You've got to find something that you like......and roll with it. (even though I'm an enabler).

Eotechs are good to go unless they get hot. Aimpoints are better but I am looking for variable magnification up too 500 yds. Tired of lugging around a heavy clump as well(why I sold the M1A). Leupold Hammers are a good choice plus they offer a killer discount for military. Gunna search around. Got nuttin but time.

Well.......if you're gonna bring it up. The Elcan optics are pretty nice. Pretty pricey.....but pretty nice. You've got the 1x / 4x (or 6x) mag. I've got one on my 10 SBR. Pretty nice. The "flip" feature is pretty sweet. You kinda get the best of both worlds. And durability? Both the EOtech and the Elcan....you could use them as clubs if you needed to.

Pics are fine. Yeah the ACOG is huge. The new VCOG looks more like the Elcan. Comes out in 2014. Be around Aimpoint,Eotech and ACOGS. The Elcan is new but I like the size and quick release option. What model is your Elcan and pros/cons.

Posted (edited)

Yeah, the ACOG may be big, but keep in mind that it's a combat optic.....on a 16" carbine. Granted....a 7.62 carbine. But the damn thing is durable. Meaning......you can bounce the thing off of the ground and it'll still work. The Elcan.......it's the specter 1x4. Once again...a combat optic. If you had to, you could pull it off of the rail and beat somebody with it. And then....put it back on.

As with all optics....it all comes down to a matter of preference. Everybody has their own expectations with what they get.

How "hot" does an Eotech have to get before it's unreliable?

Down in our pit in summer it gets to 130* or so, with one on a 5.56 and another on a .308, with no issues so far.  Getting them hot enough you can't put bare hands on the forearms.
