Jay Buckler Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 So I got my SI Defense together and am having trouble on one of the uppers w/a BCM 7.62mm gunfighter charging handle. It comes back to about my nose on the first shot. It stays there on subsequent shots or if you push it back to battery it'll come back to nose one the 1st shot. My other upper doesn't do this. My 4 other ar-15 builds don't do this. Has anyone any insight on this? thanks Jay
blue109 Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 is the catch on the charging handle working? does it have spring tension? is the detent in the upper deep enough to hold the catch? def not normal.
blue109 Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 split the rifle. slide the carrier back by hand from the bottom and see if it's dragging on the charging handle. if not, remove the carrier, lock the charging handle in place and pull on it without hitting the latch. should narrow down where the issue lies.
survivalshop Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 This is a new one on me , first I heard something like this happening . As said above , make sure the catch is holding & catching , also make sure the spring for the latch on the charging handle has sufficient pressure to hold the catch in the pocket in the upper receiver. Could also be the BCG or more likely, the Carrier Key is binding in the charging handle channel.
Jay Buckler Posted May 8, 2014 Author Report Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks for all of your help. After checking it out under bright light & magnification the hook of the catch is a liitle too thick. Nothing a few quick strokes of a fine file won't fix. Can't tell you how gunshy it makes you with a handle coming back to your nose! thanks all
survivalshop Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Yes , that would be disturbing have a charging handle coming at you !
